3 English Getting Star ted This section explains how to connect audio/video components and speakers to the receiver , and how to connect the power supply . Before Installation General • Be sure your hands are dry . • T urn the power of f to all components.
4 English Basic connecting procedur e 1 Cut, twist and r emove the insulation at the end of each speaker signal cable (not supplied). 2 Open the terminal and then insert the speaker signal cable.
5 English Connecting the subwoofer speaker Y ou can enhance the bass by connecting a subwoofer . Connect the input jack of a power ed subwoofer to the SUBWOOFER OUT jack on the rear panel, using a cable with RCA pin plugs (not supplied).

7 English DVD DBS DIGITAL 2 (CD) DIGITAL 1 (DVD) PCM / DOLBY DIGITAL / DTS DIGITAL IN Digital connections This receiv er is equipped with two DIGIT AL IN terminals — one digital coaxial terminal and one digital optical terminal.
8 English T urning the Power On and Of f (Standby) On the front panel: T o turn on the power , press POWER. The ST ANDBY lamp goes off. The name of the current source (or station frequency) appears on the display . T o turn off the power (into standby mode), press PO WER again.
9 English Selecting different sour ces for picture and sound Y ou can watch picture from a video component while listening to sound from another component. Press one of the audio source selecting buttons (CD, T APE/MD, PHONO, FM/AM, TV SOUND*), while vie wing the picture from a video component such as the VCR or DVD player , etc.
10 English Adjusting the Subwoofer Output Level Y ou can adjust the subwoofer output le vel if you ha ve selected “YES” for the “SUBWOOFER” (see page 15). Once it has been adjusted, the recei ver memorizes the adjustment. Bef ore y ou start, remember .
11 English Changing the Source Name When you ha ve connected the MD recorder to the T APE/MD jacks or the DBS tuner to the TV SOUND/DBS jacks on the rear panel, change the source name shown on the display when you select the MD recorder or the DBS tuner as the source.
12 English Setting the Speakers for the DSP Modes T o obtain the best possible surround sound of the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) modes (see page 18), you hav e to register the information about the speakers arrangement after all connections are completed.
13 English Crossover Fr equency Setting Small speaker cannot reproduce the bass sound very well. So, if you hav e used a small speaker any for the front, center , or rear channels, this receiv er auto.

17 English Selecting the FM Reception Mode When an FM stereo br oadcast is hard to receive or noisy Y ou can change the FM reception mode while recei ving an FM broadcast. 18 English Using the DSP Modes The built-in Surround Processor provides three types of the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) mode — 3D-PHONIC mode, DAP (Digital Acoustic Processor) mode and Surround mode.
19 English JVC Theater Surr ound In order to reproduce a more realistic sound f ield in your listening room while playing soundtracks of software encoded with Dolby Surround (bearing the mark DOLBY SURROUND ), you can use JVC Theater Surround. HEAD PHONE mode This mode can reproduce the LFE channel signals, mixing them to the front channel signals.

21 English Adjusting the DAP Modes and HEAD PHONE mode Once you hav e adjusted the D AP modes, the adjustment is memorized for each D AP mode. Bef ore y ou start, remember ... • Make sur e that you ha ve set the speaker inf ormation correctly (see page 12).
22 English From the r emote control: 1. Press SURR OUND MODE re peatedly until the DAP mode — LIVE CLUB, D ANCE CLUB, HALL, or P A VILION — or HEAD PHONE appears on the display . The DSP indicator also lights up on the display . (When the HEAD PHONE is selected, HEAD PHONE indicator lights up, instead of the DSP indicator .
23 English 4. Adjust the speaker output le vels. • T o adjust the center speaker lev el, press CNTR –/+ (from –10 dB to +10 dB). • T o adjust the left rear speaker lev el, press REAR•L –/+ (from –10 dB to +10 dB). • T o adjust the right rear speaker lev el, press REAR•R –/+ (from –10 dB to +10 dB).
24 English On the front panel: Y ou can also use the buttons on the front panel to adjust the Surround modes. Howe ver , no test tone is av ailable when using the buttons on the front panel. So, make adjustments while listening to the sound of the source played back.
25 English Activating the DSP Modes Y ou can use only one DSP mode at a time. When a DSP mode is acti vated, another DSP mode is canceled if in use. For Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS Digital Surr ound On the front panel: 1. Press SURR OUND so that the lamp next to the button lights up.
26 English COMPU LINK Remote Contr ol System The COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver .
27 English A V COMPU LINK Remote Contr ol System The A V COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC video components (TV , VCR, and DVD player) through the receiver . T o use this remote control system, you need to connect the video components you want to operate, follo w the diag rams belo w and the procedure on the next page.
28 English One-T ouch DVD Play Simply by starting playback on the D VD player , you can enjoy the D VD playback without setting other switches manually . • When the D VD player is connected thr ough the analog input jac ks on this r eceiver (and analog input is selected), the receiv er automatically turns on and changes the source to “D VD .
