6 HO W T O SET UP Y OUR TRA CT OR CHECK B A TTER Y (See Fig. 2) • Lift hood to raised position. • If this batter y is put into ser vice after month and year indicated on label (label located between terminals) charge batter y f or minimum of one hour at 6-10 amps.

8 INST ALL MO WER AND DRIVE BEL T (See Figs. 6 and 7) Be sure tractor is on le vel surf ace and mower suspension arms are raised with attachment lift control. Engage park- ing brake. • Cut and remove ties securing anti-s way bar and belts . Swing anti-s way bar to left side of mo wer deck.
9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov erinfl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this man ual.

12 OPERA TION CA UTION: Always stop tractor com- plete ly , as described abo ve , before leav- ing the operator's position; to empty grass catcher , etc. The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thrown into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye dam age .
13 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt by the oper ator to leave the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.

BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 02463 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e ver y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.
