vi Preface Introduction This ma nual is for i ntegrators a nd programmers of syst ems bas ed on the Ampro Lit tle Board/P 5 x , a full-fe atured CPU modu le conf orming to the EBX 1.1 te chnical spe cification . It contains t echnical information about hardware requirements, int erconnection, and software configuration.
1–1 Chapter 1 Introduction General Description The Little Bo ard/P5 x is a h igh inte gration , high-p erfo rmance Pe ntium-based PC/AT-compatible system that co nfo rms to the EBX V.
1–2 The Pentiu m CPU has its standard on-ch ip cache me mory ( typically 16K) . In additio n, a 512K byte synchronous-burs t secondary cache i s provided to increa se performance. The board uses a s ingle DIMM memory module for main DRAM memory, and support s from 16M bytes to 256M by tes in a 64- bit config uration .

The serial console feature enables you t o operate the L ittl e Board/P5 x from a stan dard ASCII terminal, repl acing the st andard keyboard a nd display devi ces.

Th e Little Bo ard/P5 x IrDA interface supports both S IR (Serial Infrared ) and FIR (Fast Inf rared) standards .

2–36 Enabling the Drive The Compact Flas h interface emula tes an IDE dri ve to the operati ng system. Note that t he Compact F lash int erface takes up one of the posit ions of the prim ary IDE drive controll er. If you use the Compa ct Flas h interface, you ca n only add one addit ional hard drive t o the primary IDE controller.

2–62 Setup Many opti ons provided on the L ittl e Board/P5 x are co ntrolle d by th e Setu p fun ction . The parameters are displayed on s everal screens , selected from a ma in menu screen. 2–66 EIDE Hard Disk Drives The module support s up to two hard di sk drives connected to the IDE int erface. Only hard dis k drives are di rectly support ed in the syst em’s ROM BI OS. IDE CD-ROM dri ves and other IDE- interfaced peri pherals are configured b y software or drivers supplied sepa rately.

The OEM or end user should never change many of these items, as they specify internal parameters that have been chosen to support the existing motherbo ard design.
