5 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide A BOUT V OICE M AIL V oice mail is an application that is part of the Inter -T el voice processing system. Using voice mail, you and other callers can send and receive recorded messages from any supported endpoint on the system.
6 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide The instructions f or many voice m ail task s are identical for st andard voice mailbox and advanced mailbox users. The instruct ions for the following common mailb ox tasks are included in this guide.
7 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Enterprise Messaging Enterprise Messaging (EM) is the Inter-T e l messaging system that uses industry-stan- dard protocols for co mmunication an d messaging. EM unifies communica tion and messaging by providing access to voice mail, fax, and e-mail messages in your mail- box.
8 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Automatic S peech Recognition (ASR) Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is a feature available for systems using EM. Because ASR is a very flexible feature, it can be enabled or disabled on several differ- ent levels.
9 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide S ETTING U P V OICE M AIL T o begin using your voice mailbox , you will need to complete a few basic set-up pro- cedures to initialize your mailbo x, customi ze your personal greeti ngs, and record your voice mail directory name.
10 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Recording Y our Personal Greetings Y ou can store two dif ferent personal greetings in your voice mai lbox: a primary and an alternate. Y ou may change or choose to use either greeting at any time.
11 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide T o record/change your personal gr eeting: 1. Access your mailbox as d escribed on page 22 . 2. Say “Personal” or tap to sel ect the Personal Options Menu. 3. Say “Greeting” or tap to record or change your personal gr eeting.

T o program the settings, tap the desired option from the bottom bar . Phone The Phone menu provides access to call l og, speed-dial, Do-No t-Disturb, and mes- sage(s) settings.
13 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Speed Dial The Speed Dial option allo ws you to save up to ten numbers. T o see the Speed Dial list, tap SPD DIAL or select Speed DIal . While viewing the Speed Dial list, you have the following o ptions: • Call : Places a call to the highlighted number in the list.
14 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Message(s) When you have received a voice mail message, a display that says, “Y ou have xx mes- sage(s).” (where the xx indicates the number of the message) appears. T o listen to the message: Ta p MSG or select Message (s) .
15 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide • To n e : The T one option has the follow ing options: — Ring T one: Select the desired ring tone from the drop-down list box. The available ring tone s are Ring Tone 1-9.wav files and Ringers 1-4.
16 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide C ONNECTION S TA T U S The Connection Status icon on the top bar a llows you to see the status of the Mo del 8601 endpoi nt connection and change to the connection settings . When you tap the icon, a pop up bubble that indicates the connection status appears.
17 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide F EATURES AND O PERATION The Model 8601 endpoint supports the featur es that are shown in the table below . Most of these features do not re quire you to enter feature codes. The following pages provide the feature descriptio ns and how to use them.
18 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Using Hot Dial The Model 8601 supports the Hot Dial feature. When Hot Dial is enabled ( ), the endpoint auto mati cally sends the dialed number if the number matches the dial plan. If Hot Dial i s disabled ( ), you must tap TA L K to send the number .
19 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Placing Calls on Hold Y ou can place the call on hold at one endpoi nt. It can then be directly picked up at that endpoint or it can be picked up at anot her endpoint using th e Call Pickup (Reverse T ransfer) feature.
20 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide T ransferring Calls Although transfer ring calls is considered a basic function of an endpoin t, your Model 8601 has many advanced options for this feature. W ith your endpoint, you can trans- fer to another exten sion or an outside l ine.
21 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Redialing Calls Y ou can redial a call in two methods. The first and simplest m ethod is redialing the last number dialed; the second method is redialin g a number that is saved in the Call Log.
22 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Accessing Y our Mailbox If you have a message waiting in your mailbox, you m ust access your mailbox to retrieve it. Although voice mail displays are not supported in SIP mode, audio prompts are supported.
23 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Disabling and Enabling ASR If your telephone system uses Ent erprise Messaging (EM), your mailbox may have the Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) feature enable d. When ASR is enabled for your mailbox, you h ave the option o f issuing a spoken command or tapping a dial pad button.

26 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocke t PC User Guide Recovering Deleted V oice Mail Messages If you accidently delete a voice mail messa ge, you can retrieve it within a specific time frame (programmed by yo ur system administrator). An y retrieved messages are then restored to your saved-message queu e.
27 Inter-T el ® Model 8601 SoftPhone for Pocket PC User Guide Recording and Sending V oice Mail Messages Y ou can record and send voice mail messages by accessing the record option on the main menu.

The advanced mailb ox unifies your lo cal voice mail messages and your remote fax and e-mail messages in one conv enient location.

The envelope can include the time and date the message was left, the s ource of the message, and additional information that is associated with the media type.
