Follow the on-screen directions. T urning off the power The power can be turned off in one of three modes: shut down (Boot), hibernation mode or sleep mode.
User ’s Manual 3-5 L350/L350D Benefits of hiber nati on mode The hibernation feature provides the following benefits: ■ Saves data to the hard disk when the computer automatically shuts down because of a low battery . ■ Y ou can return to your previous working enviro nment immediately when you turn on the computer .

Restoring the pr e- installed Sof tware Depending on the model you purchased, different ways for resto ring the pre-installed software are offered: ■ Creating optical Re covery Discs ■ Restoring the pre-instal led sof tware from your created Recovery Discs.

Insert the first blank media into the optical disc drive tray . 5. Double click the Re cov ery Disc Creator icon on the Window s Vista ® desktop, or select the appl ication from Start Menu.
3-10 User ’s Manual L350/L350D Restoring the pre-inst alled sof tware from the Reco ve ry hard disk drive On your Data drive you may find a folder “HDDRecove ry”. This folder stores files which can be used to re cover your system to the originally installed factory state.

User ’s Manual 4-1 L350/L350D Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter gives information on basic operation s including using the touchpad, optical disc drives, Audio/ Video controls, the web camera, the microphone, the internal modem, wireless communi cation and LAN.
4-2 User ’s Manual L350/L350D Using optical disc drives Operation is the same fo r all optical d i sc drives. The full-size drive provides high-performance execution of CD /DVD/HD DVDs-based prog rams. Y ou can run CD/DVD/HD DVDs without an adaptor .
User ’s Manual 4-3 L350/L350D b. Pressing the eject button will not open the drawer when the drive’s power is off. If the power is off, you can open the drawer by inserting a slender object (about 15 mm) such as a straightened paper clip into the eject hole just to the right of the eject button.

Press gently at the center of th e CD/DVD/HD DVD until you feel it click into place. The CD/DVD/HD DV D should lie below the top of the spindle, flush with the spindle base.

Figure 4-6 Closing the drawer Removing discs T o remove the CD/DVD/HD DVD, follow the steps below and refer to below figure. 1. T o pop the drawer partially open, press the eject button.

4-8 User ’s Manual L350/L350D When using ■ Frame dropping, audio skippin g or out of synch audio and video may occur during playback of some HD DVD Video titles. ■ Close all other applications w hen using the TOSHIBA HD DVD PLA YER. Do not open any other applications or carry ou t any other operations during HD DVD playback.

Be careful to check the di sc for dirt or damage be fore you use it. ■ The actual number of rewrites to CD-RW , DVD-RW , DVD+RW or DVD-RAM is affected by the quality of the disc and the way it is used.

4-34 User ’s Manual L350/L350D Heat dispersal T o protect from overheatin g, the CPU has an i nternal temperature sensor . If the computer ’s internal temperature ri ses to a certain level, the cooling fan is turned on or the processing spe ed is lowered.
User ’s Manual 5-1 L350/L350D Chapter 5 The Keyboard The number of keys on your keyboar d depends on which country/region’s keyboard layout yo ur computer is configured with. Keyboards for nu merous languages are available. There are four types of keys: typewrite r keys, function ke ys, soft keys, and Windows special keys.
5-2 User ’s Manual L350/L350D Function keys: F1 … F9 The function keys, not to be co nfused with FN , are the 9 keys at the top of your keyboard. These keys are dark gray , but function differently from the other dark gray keys. F1 through F9 are called function keys becau se they execute programmed functions when pressed.
User ’s Manual 5-3 L350/L350D Sleep : Pressing FN + F3 switches the system to sleep mode. Hibernate : Pressing FN + F4 switches the system to hibernation mode. Output : Pressing FN + F5 changes the active display devi ce. Brightness dow n : Pressing FN + F6 decreas es the comput er ’s displ ay panel brightness in individual steps.
5-4 User ’s Manual L350/L350D Zoom : Pressing FN + SP ACE cha nges the display resolution. TOSHIBA zoomi ng uti lit y (red uce) : Pressing FN + 1 reduces the icon size on the desktop or the font size s within one of the s upporte d application windows.
