5 SECTION I - GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND CONST RUCTION GENERAL DESCRIPTION This book describes a packaged boiler water powered indirect water heater that is a stationary , self- contained unit.
6 CONTROL THERMOS TAT The water heater is supplied with an immer sion thermostatic switch. The thermostat can be adjusted through a range of 120° - 140° F. OPTIONA L BACK- UP ELECTRIC HEATING SYSTEM Back-u p Electri c Heating E lement The water he ater may be supplied with an e lectric imme rsion heating element assembly( s).
7 Temperature Hig h Limit S witch As a safety device, either a surface mounted hig h temperature cut-off switch with manual reset, factory set at 190° F, or an immersion high temperature cut-off switch with manual reset, factory set at 180° F, may be provided.
8 SECTION II – INSTALLATION WARNING / CAUTION DO NOT TURN ON THE BOI LER WATER SUPPL Y to this equipment until heater is completely filled with water and all air has be en rele ased. If the heate r is NOT filled with water when the power is turned on, damage to the heating coil may result.
9 PIP ING INSTALLATION NOTE: The most effect ive means for preventing deteriorat ion from accelerated corrosi on due to galva nic and stray curre nt is the installation of dielectric fittings/unions. The installation of these fittings is the responsibility of the installing contractor.
10 4. I nstall the combination temperature and pressure safety relief valve in the tapping provided. Note that this is required by law for safety considerations. Outlet to floor drain Install into provided tapping Manual Release Lev e r Temperature Probe Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve 5.
11 ELECTRICAL IN STALLATION 1. Connect electr ical wiring from boiler c ontrols and circ ulator pump to immersion ther mostat. 2. If supplied with a back-up el ectric heating elem ent; enter electri c enclosure with properl y sized feeder leads. Be sure to properly ground the water heater.
12 SECTION III - SCHEDULED MAINTE NANCE AND OPERATION WARNING / CAUTION Before performing any maintenance procedure, make certain boiler water and electric supply is OF F and cannot accidentally be turned on. MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION The water heater is automatic in its operation.
13 ANNUAL INSPECTION 1. Flush tank as follows a. Shut off power supply . b. Close valve on hot water outlet piping. c. Open valve on drain piping. d. Cold water inlet line pressure will be strong enough to flush sediment from the bottom of the tank out through the drain.
14 SECTION IV – TROUBLESHOOTING Symptom Probable Cause Corrective Action / Remedy T u b es a r e f o u l e d . C l e a n t u b e s p er S e c t i o n III, a nnual scheduled maintenance. Gradual loss of heating capacity. Excess silt in bottom of tank.
15 BACK -UP ELECTRCIAL HEATER SYSTEM (if supplied) Symptom Probable Cause Corrective Action / Remedy Circuit breaker tripped at source. Reset circuit breaker. High limit switch tr ipped. Reset hig h limit switch. Loose wires. Tighten wires. Torque screws per torque chart included in Section VI .
16 SECTION V - SERVICING & REPLACEMENT OF PARTS WARNING / CAUTION Before servicing or replacing any part make sure to turn the power supply switch to the OF F position. RELIEF VALVE 1. Disconnect power from unit. 2. Shut off incoming water and boiler water supply .
17 HEATING COIL 1. Disconnect power from unit. 2. Shut off incoming cold and boiler water supply . 3. Attach hose to drain connection. 4. Lift manual release lever on relief valve to let air into sy stem or break union on outgoing water line. 5. Drain water from tank.
18 SURFACE TEMPERATURE HIGH LIMIT CUT-OFF (if supp lied) 1. Disconnect power from unit. 2. Remove access cover. 3. Disconnect the four (4) 14 gauge wires or three (3) 14 g auge wires and a jumper, as required. Control Wires 4. Remove the two (2) mounting screws or disconnect from thermostat, as required.
19 IMMERSION TEMPERATURE HIGH LIMIT CUT-OFF (if supplied) 1. Disconnect power from unit. 2. Remove access cover. 3. Remove high limit c over screw and cover. Cover Cover Screw Reset Tab 4. Disconnect the two (2) 14 gauge wires. Wires Capillary Tube 5.
20 HEATING ELEMENT (if supplie d) 1. Disconnect power from unit. 2. Shut off incoming water supply . 3. Attach hose to drain connection. 4. Lift manual release lever on relief valve to let air into sy stem or break union on outgoing water line. 5. Drain water from tank.
