1 1 Welcome Welcome to the bright new world of the HUAWEI MediaPad M1 8.0 (HUAWEI MediaPa d for short). With your HUAWEI MediaPad, you can: • Surf the Internet at lightning-fast speeds. • Take photos and record vi deos anytime, anywhere. • Enjoy the latest and hottest movies.
2 2 Getting started HUAWEI MediaPad M1 8.0 at a Glance Congratulations on your purchase of the HUAWEI MediaPad M1 8.0. Press and hold the power key to pow er on or off your device or restart it.
3 1. Remove the back cov er. 2. In the direction indicated in the figure, insert the SIM card into the card slot with the golden contacts on the card facing downward. 3. In the direction indicated in the figure, insert the microSD c ard into the card slot with the golden contacts on the card facing downward.
4 To remove the microSD card when your HUAW EI Me diaPad is powered on, on the home screen, touch > Storage > Unmount SD card . When the microSD card is uninstalled, remove the back cover and gently remove the card. Charging the Battery Caution Your HUAWEI MediaPad uses a built-in battery th at is not removable.
5 • T h e HUA WEI MediaPad may generate excessive heat on it s surface afte r continuously running for a long period of time, especially in a high temperature environm ent. When the HUAWEI MediaPad becomes hot, stop charging, close running applications, and move it to a c ool pl ace.
6 Notification and status icons The notification and status bars may display the following icons to info rm you of your HUAWEI MediaPad's status. Display area: Displa y widgets and application icons. Dock: displays your most common applications. Back key: Touch to return to the previous screen.
7 Common keys Shortcut operations • To open an application: On the home screen, touch the application. • To switch between the hom e screen and its ext ensions : On th e home screen, flick your finger left or right.
8 • To customize the home screen: Touch and hold a b lank area on the home screen. On the displayed option menu, set the wallpaper, w idgets, and more.
9 • Flick down from the status bar to open the notification panel. • Touch to display the settings screen. Touch the switch shortcuts on th e notification panel to turn on or off the functions. Touch to display the switch shortcut list and touc h to edit it.
10 3 Text input Your HUAWEI MediaPad com es with multiple input methods. You can quickly enter text using the onscreen keyboard. • Touch a text input field to bring up the o nscreen keyboard. • When you are done, touch to hide the onscreen keyboard.
11 4 Network connection Connecting to a Wi-Fi network When both a Wi -Fi network and a mobile network are available simultaneously, the HUAWEI MediaPad connects to the Wi-Fi network by de fault. If the Wi-Fi netw ork disconnects, the HUAWEI MediaPad then automatic ally connects to the mobile network.
12 5 Network sharing You can use various methods to share your HUAWEI MediaPad's data connect ion with other wireless devices. Sharing your network using a Wi-Fi hotspot By setting up your HUAWEI M ediaPad as a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can share your mobile network with other devices.
13 Sharing your data connection using Bluetooth tethering With Bluetooth tethering, you can share your HUAWEI MediaPad's data connection with other Bluetooth devices. 1. On the home screen, touch Settings . 2. Touch More… > Tethering & portable hotspot under WIRELESS & NETWORKS .
14 6 Managing applications Installing an application When you install an application, the " Install blocked " message may be displayed. Read the message carefully. If you wa nt to continue with the installation, follow the onscreen instructions.

16 7 Email Adding an email account Email parameters must be set when you add an em a il account. For details, contact your email service provider. 1. On the home screen, touch Email . 2. On the Add accoun t screen, select the account type you want. 3.

18 8 Multimedia Importing photos You can import photos from a cam era or other storag e device (s uch as a USB flas h drive or phone) to your HUAWEI MediaPad using only a USB OTG cable. To purchase a USB OTG cable, please contact an Huaw ei authorized supplier or your device vendor.
19 2. Touch a ph oto or video to view it in f ull screen mode. Flick your finger left or right across th e screen to view the previous or next file. You can pinch two fingers apart or together to zoom in or out.
20 9 Customized settings The HUAWEI MediaPad allows you to set a desire d photo as the wallpaper , design home screen widgets, and set desired ringtones. Changing the theme Your HUAWEI MediaPad comes with multiple themes, easily a llowing your device to have a new look as often as you want.
21 Managing your home screen 1. On the home screen, touch and hold a blank area. 2. In the displayed di alog box, touch Thumbnails . 3. On the thumbnail screen, you can: • Touch and hold a home screen thumbnail to move its position.

23 • Touch to delete a blank home screen. Setting the ringtone 1. On the home screen, touch Settings > Sound . 2. Select the desired ringtone type. 3. Follow the onscreen instructions to select your favorite music or recording as the ringtone. Setting the font size 1.
24 Adjusting the screen brightness Your HUAWEI MediaPa d incorporates a light sens or that can automatically adjust the screen brightness based on the ambient light . You can also manually adjust the display brightness. Lower the display brightness to to reduce yo ur HUAWEI MediaPad's power consumption.
25 10 File sharing Sharing files using Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct is a function to connect wireless devi ces using a Wi-Fi network. After wi reless devices are connected, they can quickly share files among them. 1. On the home screen, touch Settings > Wi-Fi .
26 Multi-screen display You can push photos, v ideos, or games on your HUAW EI MediaPad to a large screen , such as a TV, to view them m ore conveniently. If your TV supports HDMI and a resolution of 720p or above, you can use it with a HUAW EI MediaQ for multi-screen display.
27 4. On the home screen of your HU AWEI MediaPad, flick down from the sta tus bar to open the notification panel. 5. Touch > and touch your TV's name. For more details, see the HUAWEI MediaQ User Guide. Copying files from a computer Use a USB cable to connect your HUAWEI MediaPad to a computer.
28 Connection Mode Functio n Operation Media device (MTP) • On the computer, view and manage the files stored on your H U A W E I M e d i a P ad and the microSD card. • Using Windows Media Player 11 or a later version in the computer, view and manage the multimedia files stored on y o u r HUAWEI MediaPad an d t h e m i c r o S D card.
29 11 Contacts Creating a contact 1. On the home screen, touch Contacts to display your contacts list. 2. Touch . If you are creating contacts for the first time, your HUAWEI MediaPad prompts you to select a storage location. When you create contacts next time, the new co ntacts are stored in the same storage location by default.
30 3. In the displ ayed dialog box, select an import method and fo llow the onscreen instr uctions to import contacts. If you choose to import contac ts from another device using Bluetooth, turn on Bluetooth o n the device and follow the o nscreen instructions to pair with your HUAWEI MediaPad.
31 12 Calls The Wi-Fi only version of the HUAW EI MediaPad does not support this function. Making an emergency call In the event of an emergency, you can make emergency calls without a SIM card. However, you must still be within the coverage area. 1. On the home screen, touch Dialer .
32 3. Touch Create a new contact or Save to existing co ntact to add the number to yo ur contacts list. Clearing call logs To delete a single c all log: On the Dialer screen, touch and hold the call log. On the displayed option menu, touch Delete entry .
33 13 Messaging The Wi-Fi only version of the HUAW EI MediaPad does not support this function. Searching for a message If you are having trouble f inding a specific message in a pile of messag es, this function can come to your rescue. 1. On the home screen, touch Messaging .
34 14 Settings Motion control Motion control lets you control your HUAWEI MediaP ad using sim ple motions. For example, mute the phone or answer and make calls quickly. 1. On the home screen, touch Settings 。 2. Touch Motion control 。 3. On the Motion co ntrol screen, select an option, an d select a moti on to enable it.

You can also touch the power key to lock the screen. Adjusting the volume You can set the volume for the ringtone, media, alarms, and notification s.
36 Locking a microSD card To prevent the information in a microSD card from being leaked, you can lock the microS D card using y o u r H U A W E I M e d i a P a d . W h e n a l o c k e d m i c r o S D c a r d is used in another device for the first time, the card must pass a p assword authen tication to be recognized.
37 2. Touch Factory data re set and follow the onscreen instructions to back up data or directly restore factory settings. Updating your HUAWEI MediaPad Caution • U p d a t i n g y o u r HUAWEI MediaPad may clear all the data in it. Back up important data be fore updating your HUAWEI MediaPad.
