1 1 Connecting Cabl es and Getting St art ed Thank you for pur chasing the HG658c (HG6 58c for short ). Y ou can go onl ine using t he Et hernet, USB and DSL modem services.
2 After you power on the HG6 58c , the P ow er indicat or turns on , t he I NTERNET indicator turns on. This indicat es that the HG 658c is w orking properly . When the INTERNET indic ator star ts bli nking , d ata is being trans m itted bet ween the HG658c and th e c onnected device.
3 1.3 Connecting Cable s Using the DSL Port Connecting Cables I f there is at least one telephone j ack available i n your home, you can access the Internet usi ng digital subsc riber line ( DS L) services.
4 2 Setting Network Access Paramet ers 2.1 Logging in to the Web-based Configurat ion Utility Most parameters of t he HG658c are pre - s et before deliv ery to m eet common home applic ation scenar ios. T o check the HG658c 's working status or configure certain advanced net work funct i ons , use the w eb - based con figuration ut ility .
5 3 Setting Up a W i reless Connection If a wireless ne twork adapter i s installed on your comp uter , you c an c o nnect your computer t o the HG658c over a wireless connec t ion. The method for ins talling the wireless a dapter and its driv er varies by ve ndor .
6 3.2 Setting up a Wireless Connection Manually Besides usin g t he WPS button , you can also set up a wireless c onnection manually . The follo wing example uses a computer ru nning the Wind o w s XP operating system to desc r ibe how to set up a wireless conn ection usin g t he default wirel ess net work nam e and password : 1.
7 6) In the Wirel ess Netwo rk Connection dialog box, sel ect the wireless network whose name is the sa me as the one yo u recorded in 1 , and click Connect .

10 5.4 Enabling or Disabli ng the Wirel ess Network Function There are t wo methods for enabli ng or disabl ing the wirel es s network f unc t ion. Using the WLAN Button T o enable or disable the wireless net work function, pr ess the W L AN butt on more than 1 secon d .
11 5. For Securi ty Mode , select WPA -PSK/WPA2-PSK . E nt er a pass word i n WPA P re -S hared K ey text box . Use defaul t settings f or other param eters. 6. Click Submit . Y ou will be pro mpted to enter this password when connecting wireless d evices , such as a computer, to the HG658c 's wireless network.
12 5.7 Restoring Default Settings If you restore t he HG658c t o def ault sett ings , all customize d user data will be lost. Therefore, exerc is e caution when using this function. T o restore the HG658c to def ault settings, po wer on t he H G658c, press a nd hold the Reset button more t h an 6 seconds, and then relea se.
13 6 F AQs How can I quic k ly enable or di sable the wireles s network func t ion? Press and hold the W L AN but ton more than 1 s econd, and then r elease.
14 If the WAN indicator is still off, contact your network service provider. 3. Check that you have entered t he correct user name and pass word. 4. The user name and password are pr ovided by your n etwork servi ce provider. T o check the user n am e an d password, s ee section 0“ Configuring I nternet Access P arameters ”.

What can I do if t he wireless net work is not encr ypted but the com put er cannot connec t to the wireless network? 1.
18 3. Check that the security m ode of the wireless net work is set t o WP A2 -PSK , or WPA -PSK/WPA2-PSK , and SSID is set to SSID1 . Note that the WPS f unction is forcibl y disabled if the wireless net work uses the Wired Equivalent P r i vacy (WEP) encr yption.
