23 1 Getting Started 1.2 About the USIM/ SIM Car d and Battery Always turn off your devic e before installing/replacing the ba ttery and USIM/ SIM card. F ollow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to install a USIM/ SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card provided by your local network service provider and to install the battery.

When this function is enabled and a progr am error occurs, technical data about the state of the prog ram and your computer will be logged in a text file and delivered to Microsoft's technical support if you choose to send it.

44 3 Using Phone F eatur es 3.1 Using the Phone Like a standard mobile phone, y ou can use your device to make, r eceive , and keep track of calls and send SMS/MMS messages. Y ou can also dial directly from Contacts, and easily cop y phonebook entries from your USIM/ SIM card to Contacts on your devic e.

46 3 Using Phone F eatur es Notes • T o adjust the conv ersation phone volume, you must do it during a call . Adjusting the volume at another time will aff ect the ring, notification, and MP3 sound levels. • When you activate V ibrate mode, sound will automatically be mut ed and your device will vibrate when an inc oming call is received.

60 4 Setting Up Y our Device 4.1 Basic Settings Owner information Having owner information displa yed on the T oday screen makes it easier for someone to return your device t o you if it is lost. T o enter owner informa tion 1. T ap Star t > Settings > Personal tab > Owner Information .

98 7 Exchanging Messages 7.1 Messaging Messaging is where your text messages (SMS), multimedia messages (MMS), and e-mails are located. T o read new incoming messages, tap the messaging account on the T oday screen tha t shows you hav e new messages. 101 7 Exchanging Messages Change MMS settings When you send an MMS message, an SMS notification message will first be sent to the recipient, while y our MMS message will be temporarily stored on an MMS server of your wireless service provider .
102 7 Exchanging Messages • Server name . A descriptive name, such as your wireless service provider name. • Gateway . L ocation of the MMS server , which is usually in the form of an IP address. • Port number . HT TP port number used for connecting to the MMS server and for file transfer .
103 7 Exchanging Messages Creat e and send MMS messages After configuring the required settings , you can start to compose and send MMS messages. T o compose an MMS message Y ou can compose MMS messages in a combination of various slides, where each slide can consist of a photo , audio or video clip, and/or te xt.
104 7 Exchanging Messages While on a slide, you can: • T ap to preview the slide. • T ap to go to the previous slide. • T ap to go to the next slide. 8. While composing an MMS message, y ou can also do the following: • T ap Menu > Options > B ackground t o choose a background color from the list.
