Your PC Workstation Does Not Start Correctly Symp tom Type of Problem Case 1 When the power button is pressed, the P C Workstation sh ows no sign of activ ity at all: • PC Workst ation may not be c orrectly connect ed to the power s upply. Refer to p age 9.

9 Case 1 — If There Is No Activ ity A t All Case 1 — If There Is No Activity At All When the power button is pre ssed, the PC W orkstat ion shows no si gn of activity at all. The mo nitor is blank, there is no sound from the har d disk drive or fan, or the status LED do es not light up.
Case 2 — Monitor Is B lank 10 Case 2 — Monitor Is Blank When the power button is pressed, the PC W orkstation appears to boot (sound fro m the hard disk dri ve and fan, and status LED is green), bu t the monitor is blank. • Hard disk drive and fan can be h eard.

Case 3 — Detected Har dware Configur ation Error 12 Case 3 — D etected Hardware Configurati on Error When the power button is pressed, the hard disk dri ve or fan can be heard, but the PC W orkstation does not boot. The monitor remains blank and the status LED is red.

Case 4 — Boot Process Fails 14 Case 4 — Boot Process Fails When the power button is pre ssed, the PC W orkstat ion starts to boot and there is activity on the monitor , but the boot process then fails with an error message. Status LED flashes red.
15 Case 4 — Boot Process Fails Category # 2: If the error is onl y a warning (i. e. key stuck), the POST should prompt: WARNING 1 1. After a timeout period of five seconds without any interv ention, the system resumes to boot.
Case 4 — Boot Process Fails 16 If There Is a Beep Code During Boot If an error occurs dur ing the POST , which prevents the PC W orkstation from starting, the sy stem issues a beep code befor e attempting to display the erro r in the uppe r left corne r of the screen.

Many problem s with your PC W orkstation can be solved by updati ng (flashing) the BIOS (Basic Input Output Sy stem).
Conf iguration Proble ms Troublesho oting BIOS Problems 32 Clearing the CMOS 1 Turn off the PC Workstation, disconn ect the power cord and data cables, then remove the cover. 2 Set the system board switch 8 to the ON position to clear the C MOS memor y.
33 Configuratio n Proble ms Trou bl esho oting BIO S Prob lems Recovering the BIOS (Crisis Mode) If for some reason the BIOS is corrupted an d the standard flash cannot be used, use t he BIOS Reco very Mode (excepti onal BIOS r ecovery operation) to restore the BIOS.

A certain number of these are reserv ed (switches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and should not be modif ied, other wise it coul d lead to a sy stem failure.
