Component ident ification 12 IMPORTANT: Pressing and holding the On button without utility present normally initiates a battery start and the UPS assumes the load. However, if the On button is pressed and a REPO i s detected, battery start is inhibited and the UPS is not ab le to assume the load.

This document contains important safety instructions that should be followed duri ng installation, operation, and maintenance of the UPS and batteries . Installation 15 WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, be sure that: • The levelin g feet are extend ed to the floor. • The full weigh t of the rack rests on the leveling feet. • The stabilizi ng feet are atta ched to the rack if it is a single - rack i nst allation.
Installation 16 3. Install cage nuts or clip nuts into the rear of the rack. 4. Insert screws through the mounting rail into the cage nuts o r clip nuts.
Installation 17 5. Tighten the wing nuts or hex nuts. 6. Install the rear stabilization bracket us ing wing nuts. Wait until the unit i s installed and the brackets are adjusted b efore tightening t he nuts. I nstalling the UPS in a rack Before installin g the unit, review and adhere to a ll warnings provided in " Prec autions (on page 13 ).
Installation 18 2. Install the mounting ears on the chassis using the screws provided. 3. With one person on each side, lift the chassis to rail l evel and slide the chassis on the mounting rails . 4. Attach the chassis to the rack us ing the supplied screws.

Installation 20 Attaching the UPS fron t bezel Connecting the host com puter CAUTION: Only one communications port can be connected to the host computer. Connecting more than one will r esult in unexpected UPS b ehavior. If an option card is inst alled, the serial and USB communications port s are automatically disable d.
Installation 21 Connecting the serial communications port CAUTION: Use only the computer i nterface cable supplied with the UPS to connect the communications port to the host computer. IMPORTANT: Power protector software r equires the communication s port to be appropriately cabled to the host computer.
Installation 22 WARNING: To meet the requirem ents stated in NEC ( NFPA 70) Articles 645 - 10 and 645 - 11, a UPS installed in a c omputer equipment r oom must be connected to a R EPO circuit. IMPORTANT: The remote switch must be in the Off (o pen) position to enable power to the output receptacl es.
Installation 23 • Avoid allowin g the wires to hang in the rear of the U PS. • Use tie wraps and tie wrap blocks to secure the wires tightly to the rack and the rear of the UPS. Fo r more informa tion about the REPO port, see " REPO port (on page 11 )".
Installation 24 The ground bondin g cable is not included. C onnecting the UPS to utility power WARNING: To prevent injury from ele ctric shock or damage to the eq uipment: • Plug the input line cord into a grounded (earthed) elec trical outlet that is installed near the equipment a nd is easily accessib le.
Installation 25 CAUTION: Do not plug laser printers into the UPS ou tput receptacles. The instantaneous current drawn by this type of printer can overload the UPS. Before connecting devices, verify that the UPS will not overload by checking t hat the ratings of th e devices do not exceed the UPS capacity.
Installation 26 IMPORTANT: Charge the batteries for a t least 24 hours before suppl ying backup power to devices. Th e batter ies charge to: • 80 percent of their capacity within 3 hours • 100 percent of their capacity within 48 hours Starting power to the load Start power to the load by placing the UPS in Oper ate mode (on page 40 ).

Installation 29 Connecting the ERM to th e UPS 1. Remove the screws, and then remove the ERM connector bracket from the UPS. 2. Connect the ERM cable (2) in the socket (1) at the rear of the UPS.
Installation 30 3. Attach the ERM connector bracket to the UPS as a cord rete ntion bracket for the ERM cable. 4. To install a second ERM: a. Remove the E RM connector bracket from the fir st ERM. b. Connect the cable from the second ERM into the socket at the rear of the f irst ERM.
Installation 31 Installing the optional UPS Ne twork Modul e NOTE: It is not neces sary to power down the UPS b efore installing the UPS Netw ork Module. You can purchase the optional UPS Netwo rk Module by order ing part number AF465A. 1. Remove the two screws securing the UPS option slot cover plate, and then re move the cover plate.

If the UPS is powe red up, you can be su re that the UPS Network M odule is seated prope rly and communicating with the UPS by verifying that the UPS Data LED illuminates solid green, and then flashes regularly after 2 minutes. Connecting the UPS Network Module The UPS Network Modu le is provided to manage the attache d servers.
Installation 33 Connecting the battery leads WARNING: To prevent persona l injury from electr ic shock or damage to the equipment, remove the battery lead labels, and verify that the ERM circuit breakers are in the Off position. Rotating the logo badge Gently pull out the logo badge, rotate it 90 deg rees, and then replace it in the bezel.
Installation 34 Attaching the UPS fron t bezel Attaching the tower con version stands WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, the tower conversion stands must be properly attached when the unit is installed as a towe r.

Installation 36 WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, the tower conversion stands must be properly attached when the unit is installed as a tower. 1. Using the preinstalled screws, attach the tower conversion stands to the u nit.

Maintenance 46 1. Read and ob serve the requiremen ts in " Important battery safety info rmation (on page 46 )" and " Battery care and storage guid elines (on page 46 )." 2. Follow the instruct ions in " UPS battery replac ement procedure (on pag e 47 ).
Maintenance 47 When a battery al arm sounds, init iate a UPS batter y self - test to verify that battery replacement is requir ed. If the Battery Fault LED remains illuminated, replace the batteries as soon as possible. For more informa tion on initiating a self - test, see " Initiating a self - test (on page 43 ) .
Maintenance 48 IMPORTANT: Do not pull the batter y leads when removing or installing the batteries. To replace th e components, r everse the removal p rocedure. IMPORTANT: Charge the batteries for a t least 24 hours before suppl ying backup power to devices.
Maintenance 49 R eplacing the UPS To remove the UPS: 1. Power down all at tached load devices. 2. Power down the UPS (" Powering down the UPS " on pag e 44 ). 3. Switch the circuit breaker for any attached ERMs to the Off position. 4. Unplug the U PS power cord.
Maintenance 50 3. Remove the two s crews securing the option card and slide the card out. To replace th e component, rev erse the removal p rocedure. NOTE: Replacing t he option card might requir e power protector softwa re to be restarted or reconfigur ed.
