2-23 Installin g the Switch Sample Network Topologi es As shown in the above illustration , the I P telepho nes can be c onnect ed in line, that is , between the switch and the end device , in this case a PC. The IP telephone s have two por ts, one in and one out.
2-24 Instal ling the Swit ch Sample N etwor k Topol ogies The 252 0G-PoE swi tches also work well as segment swi tches. That is, with their hig h perfo rmance, the y can be used for inte rconn ecting ne twork segmen ts—simply co nnect the networ k device s that form those segm ents to the 252 0G-PoE swit ches.
2-25 Installin g the Switch Sample Network Topologi es Stacking t he Switch The 252 0G-PoE switche s can be con n ected t ogether , through sta ndard network conn ection s, and managed through a single IP address. Up t o 16 switch es can be connecte d together in such a “vi rtual sta ck”.

4-1 4 T roubl eshooting This chapter describe s how to troublesh oot your P roCu rve 2520G-PoE Switches. T his docume nt describe s trouble shooting mostly from a hardware perspecti ve.
4-2 Trou blesh ooting Basic Troubles hooting Tips Caut ion Because the 2520G-PoE switches behave in this way ( i n compliance with the IEEE 802 .3 standard) , if a de vice connecte d to the swi tch ha s a fixed configurat ion at full dup lex, the devi ce will not conn ect correctly to the switch.
4-3 Trou blesh ooting Basic Tr oubl esho oting Tips ■ Check th e port confi gurat ion. A port on yo ur switch may no t be operati ng as you expect b ecause it has been put into a “blo cking” state by Spanning T ree, GV RP (a utomat ic VLANs) , or L ACP ( automat ic trun king).
4-4 Trou blesh ooting Diagno sing with the LEDs Diagnosing with the LEDs T able 4-1 sh ows LE D pattern s on the sw itch tha t indica te probl em co nditions for general switch opera tion tr oublesh ooting. T able 4-2 sho ws LED pat terns that indica te problem condit ions for P oE troubles hooting.
4-5 Trou blesh ooting Diagno sing with the LE Ds Diagnostic T ips: Ti p Problem Solution ➊ The swit ch is no t plugge d int o an active AC p ower source , or the switch’ s powe r supp ly may ha ve failed . 1. V erify the power cord is pl ugged int o an acti ve power source and to the swi tch.
4-6 Trou blesh ooting Diagno sing with the LEDs ➏ The ne twork conn ection is no t working prop erly . T r y the fol lowi ng pr ocedur es: • For the ind icated port, v erify that bo th ends of the cabli n g, at the swit ch and the connec ted device , are connec ted prop erly .
4-7 Trou blesh ooting Diagno sing with the LE Ds ➐ The por t may be improp erly confi gured, or the port may be in a “blocki ng” stat e by the normal ope rati on of the S pannin g Tr e e , L A C P , o r IGMP feature s .
4-8 Trou blesh ooting Diagno sing with the LEDs LED Patterns for PoE T roubleshootin g If the Po E Status LED is f lashing, that indicat es a pro blem w ith the d elivery of PoE power out one or more switch ports. Press the LED Mod e button to put the switch int o PoE mode and the port LED s will show wh ich ports are exper iencin g the p r oblem.
4-9 Trou blesh ooting Proa ctiv e Network ing Proactive Networking The ProCurve 2520G- PoE Switches ha ve built-in man agement capab ilities that proactiv ely help y ou man age your ne twork inclu din.
4-10 Trou blesh ooting Hardware Di agnostic Tests Hardware Diagnostic T ests T esti ng the Switch by Rese tting It If you believe the switch is n ot operat ing correctl y , you can reset the switch to test it s circuitry an d operat ing code.
4-11 Trou blesh ooting Hardwa re Dia gnost ic Test s T esting T wis ted-Pa ir Cabli ng Network ca bles th at fail to pro vide a link or provide an unrelia ble link between the switc h and th e conn ected network de vice may not be co mpat ible with the IEEE 802.
4-12 Trou blesh ooting Restor ing th e Factor y Defa ult C onfig urati on Restoring the Factory Default Configuration As part of your troublesh ooting pr ocess on the Sw itch, it may be come necessary t o return the sw itch configur ation to the fa ctory default sett ings.
4-13 Trou blesh ooting Down loadin g New Switc h Softwar e Downloading New Switch Software When prod u ct enhan cement s occur fo r the 2520G-Po E switches, new softwar e can be download ed to the switch through sever al methods, for product enhanc ements and new feature s.
