Fill in and retain! The vacuum cleaner you have just purchased is a combination cleaner. It has a motorized power nozzle for carpet and floor cleaning and tools for other tasks.
Important Safeguards! l Read all instructions before using this appliance. l Warning: Electric shock could occur if used outdoors or on wet surfaces. l Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Do not allow vacuum cleaner to be used as a toy or to run unattended at any time.
Unpacking Unpack the cleaner from the carton and identify the parts shown. Remove and dispose of the cardboard packing. A. Canister cleaner B. Power nozzle C. Throw away bag D. Extension wands and hose The cleaner assembled will look like the drawing below.

How to assemble 1. Connect hose Insert hose end with cord into opening of cleaner, lining up largest projection on hose with largest notch of opening. Turn hose to the right to tighten. When hose is attached properly, hose cord plug will reach to receptacle on cleaner.
Attach second wand to the first. Position cord into cord clips on wands, placing excess cord between nozzle and bottom cord clip. To attach hose to wands, rotate plastic latch ring on hand grip until slots in opening align. Push hand grip over wand so that button projection fits into slot.
How to use Power nozzle The power nozzle adjusts automatically for cleaning hard surface floors and various heights of carpet. The agitator may be turned off by unplugging power nozzle cord from hand grip when cleaning irregular floor sutfaces such as brick, slate, and certain parquet floors.
Cleaning Tools The three small cleaning tools are stored on a tray underneath the cover. Remove cover by lifting top section of carrying handle and pulling forward. Select proper tool The cleaning tools have many uses. Select the tool best suited for the cleaning task from the descriptions below.
To connect and remove tools To connect tools, insert end of tool into extension wand and snap into position. To disconnect, press down on the center of the spring latch and remove tool. Tools may be attached to hand grip by rotating plastic latch ring until the slots in the opening align.
How to store Your cleaner can be stored on end as shown in the illustration. Store power nozzle with handle in upright position. The hose, extension wands and power nozzle can be stored dis- assembled from the cleaner if desired. Maintenance The following sections are concerned with proper maintenance of the cleaner.
What bags to buy Use HOOVER bag type K with this cleaner, HbOVERa To assure that your HOOVER cleaner operates at peak performance, it is imperative that you use only genuine HOOVER throw away bags made by The Hoover Company. Clearing obstructions Remove larger items from carpet and floor surfaces before vacuuming to help prevent obstructions in the hose, wands or nozzle connector, and maintain the cleaning effectiveness of your cleaner.
The belt The belt in your power nozzle drives the agitator. It has been designed specifically for use in this cleaner and is important for effective operation. There are other belts manufactured that are similar in shape and size but are not designed for the HOOVER power nozzle.
Place new belt on motor pulley, with lettering on outside of belt. Then slip agitator through belt, positioning belt on agitator pulley. Position round projection on opposite end of agitator into opening in wall of nozzle base. Push agitator slightly to the left, pull forward, and press it down into nozzle base.
Maintain front connection, while rotating cover over nozzle base. Pull nozzle cord through opening in cover. Turn nozzle over and replace screws. Agitator brushes and brush roll When to replace brushes Disconnect cleaner from elec- trical outlet. To check condition of brushes, move edge of card across agitator opening while turning agitator.
BAR/BRUSH END SECTION 2. Pull or pry out end sections as shown in illustration. Note: Pulley end should be removed by pulling straight out. 3. Pull bar/brush assemblies from agitator slots, using pliers if necessary. The word “BAR” is stamped near the slots on the agitator.

Lubrication The motor is equipped with two bearings that contain sufficient lubrication for the life of the motor. The addition of lubricant could cause damage. Therefore, do not add lubricant to either motor bearing. The agitator is equipped with two ball bearings that should be lubricated periodically.
