Follow ing ar e t he loa d limits f or your motorcyc le: Improperly loa ding your motor cycle can af f ect it s s tabili ty a nd handling. Ev en if your motor cycle is properly loaded, you should ride at reduced speeds a nd never exce ed 130 km/h (80 mph) when c arrying carg o.

− −− T emperature D isplay Overheating Message T he coolant temper ature met er ( ) show s coolant t emperat ure digit ally. If the displa y is air te mperat ure, push t he SEL ECT butto n ( ). When t he coolant t emperat ure reaches 122°C, the display begin s to f lash and ‘‘ red line’’ ( ) appe ars on t he displa y.

Shows riding spee d. Shows accumulat ed milea ge. T his meter can be displayed to 0 t o 99,999 kilometers (miles). If t he display exceeds 99,999 kil ometers (miles), it will return to 0 au tom atic al ly.
T he tripmeter show s mileag e per trip. T he re are two trip me ters, tri pm eter A ( ) and tripmeter B ( ). Switch betw een the odomete r, tripmet er A a nd tripmet er B by pre ss in g the RESE T bu tton ( ) repe ated ly.

T he r ear shock absorber assembly includes a damper unit tha t cont ains h igh pressur e nitr ogen gas. Do not a tt empt t o disassemble or service the damp er; it cannot be rebui lt a n dm u s tb er e p l a c e dw h e nw o r no u t . Disposal should only be don e by your Honda dea ler.
T he spring preload adjuster knob ( ) has 35 spring preloa d posit ions (clicks) or mor e f or dif f er ent loa d or riding condit ions. T o ad ju st to the stan d ard po si tio n: T o r educe (L OW ) : T urn t he adjust er count ercloc kwise t owar d L OW f or a light load and smoot h road condition.

Both the f ron t a nd rear brakes are the hydra ulic disc types. A s the br ake pa ds we ar, t he br ake f luid level drops. T he re ar e no adjust ments t o per f or m, but f luid level and p ad wear must be inspected periodical ly. T h e syst em must be inspe cted f req uent ly t o ensur e th ere a re no f luid lea ks.
Make sure t her e are no f luid leaks. Check f or det erioration or cracks in the hoses and f itti ng s. A ppl y t he brake several times and check f or f ree w heel rotation af ter the brake lever is released.
T he reserve tank is located bel ow t he seat. Re m o ve t h e s e at ( p a g e ) . T he re commended br ake f luid is Honda DOT 4 br ake f luid f rom a se aled cont a iner, or an equival ent. Make sure t her e are no f luid leaks. Check f or det erioration or cracks in the hoses and f itti ng s.
T his motor cycle has a hydraulically actuated clutch. Ther e are no adjustmen ts to perf orm, but t he clutch syst em must be inspecte d periodica lly f o r f luid level and leakag e.
Clutch L e ver: T h ed i s t a n c eb e t w e e nt h et i po f t h ec l u t c h lever ( ) and the grip can be adjusted by tur ning the a djuste r ( ) w hile push ing the lever f orwa rd. A lign th e arr ow ( ) on t he clutch lever w ith t h ei n d e xm a r k( )o nt h ea d j u s t e r .
T he ow ner must properly maint ain the coolant t o prevent f reezing, over heat ing, and cor rosion. U se only high qua lity ethylene glycol antif reeze containing corrosion pr otect ion inhibitor s specif ically recomme nded f or use in aluminum engines.
T he r eser ve t ank is behind th e lef t f r ont cowl. If the reserve t ank is em pty, or if coolant loss is excessiv e, check f or leaks and se e your Honda dea ler f or repair . Check the coolan t level in the reserve tank ( ) wh ile th e engine is at the nor mal op erati ng tem per atur e with the m oto rc ycl e in an uprigh t posit ion.
T he f uel ta nk capac ity including t he r eserv e supply is: T o open t he f uel f ill ca p ( ), insert the ignition key ( ) a nd t urn it clockwi se. T he f ue l f ill ca p is hinged and w ill lif t up. Do not ove rf ill the ta nk. T her e should be no f ue l in the f ille r neck ( ).
If ‘‘spa rk knoc k’’ or ‘‘pinking’’ o ccurs at a stea dy engine spee d under norma l load, change br ands of petr ol. If s park knock or pinking per sists, cons ult yo ur Honda de aler. Fa ilure t o do so is considered misuse, a nd damage ca used by misuse is not cover ed by Honda’s L imit ed W ar rant y.
If you decid e t o use a petrol containing a l c o h o l( g a s o h o l ) ,b es u r ei t ’ so c t a n er a t i n g is at le ast a s high as t hat recomme nded by Honda. T her e are t wo t ypes of ‘‘gasohol’’: o ne c on tai ni n g eth an ol , an d th e othe r conta ining metha nol.
− − R unning the e ngine wit h insuf f icient oil pressur e may cause ser ious engine damage . Check the engi ne oil level each day bef ore riding t he motor cycle. T he level must be maintained between t he u p p e r( )a n dl o w e r( )l e v e lm a r k si nt h e inspection w indow ( ).
T o saf ely operat e your mot orcycle, your tyr es must be t he pr oper t ype and size , in good condit ion wit h ade quate t read, a nd corre ctly inf la te d f or th e load y ou ar e carr ying.
− − − A lways check air pressure w hen your tyres are ‘‘col d’’ when the m otorcycle has been parked f or at least t hree hours. If you check air pressu re when your tyres are ‘‘ warm’’ when the mot orcycle has been rid den f or eve n a f ew miles t he r eadings w ill be higher than if t he tyres were ‘‘cold’ ’.
〈〉 German law prohibits use of t yres whose trea d dep th is l ess th an 1. 6 mm. If a tyre is punctured or dam aged, you should repla ce it, not repa ir it . A s discussed below, a tyre that is repaired, either tempor arily or pe rmanent ly, will ha ve lower speed and perf ormanc e limits than a new tyre .
T he recommen ded tyres f or your motorcyc le are: T he tyres t hat came on you r motorcycle were desi gned to match the perf ormance capabilit ies of your motor cycle a nd provide the bes t combina tion of handling, bra king, durabilit y and comf ort .
Do not inst all a t ube inside a tube less t yre on this mot orcy cle. Excessive heat build- up can cause t he tube t o burst . Use on ly tubele ss tyres on this motorc ycle.
T he ignit ion sw itch ( ) is below the indicat or panel. LO C K (steering lock) OFF ON (hazard) Ste ering is locke d. Engine a nd light s cannot be operat ed. Engine and light s cannot be oper at ed. Engine and ligh ts ca n be opera ted. When the ha zard s witch i s ON , both left an d right t urn signa ls f la sh.
T his mot orcy cle ha s tw o keys a nd a key number plat e. Y ou will need the key number if you ever have to replace a key. Store the plate in a saf e place. T o reproduce keys, bring all keys, key number plat e and motor cycle t o your Honda dealer.
If all k ey s are l ost, th e PG M- FI un it/ ig ni tio n contr ol module must be r epla ced. T o a void this poss ibility we r ecommend t ha t if only one key is lef t, you immedia tely h ave it repr oduced to ensur e th at a back-up is availab le.
When th e ig ni tio n swi tch is tu rn ed ON a nd the e ngine stop sw itch is a t ‘‘ ’’ (R UN), the immobiliz er sy stem ( HISS) indicat or lights f or a f ew seconds, then goes of f . I f th e indicat or rema ins on, it mea ns the system does not recognize the coding of t he key.
T ur n the ig ni tio n swi tch O N. When th e ign iti on s witch i s turn ed OFF, the immobilizer syste m (HISS) indicat or continue s to f lash eve ry 2 se conds during 24 ho ur s. Af te r this p er io d , the i nd i ca tor aut omatica lly swit ches of f .

When the h azard switch ( ) is (ON) position, bot h lef t a nd right t urn signals sta rt f la shing. Wit h t he ignition sw itc h is posit ion, the signals cont inue f lashing e ven th e engine or other lights a re OFF .
Pu sh th e dim me r switc h to (H I) to select high be am or t o (L O) t o select low beam. Wh en this sw itch is pr essed, th e headlight f lashes on to signal appro aching cars or when pa ssing. Move to (L ) to signal a lef t t urn, (R ) t o signal a r ight t urn.
T o l ock the ste eri ng , tur n the ha nd leb ars a ll the way to the le f t or rig ht, tu rn th e key ( ) to L OCK while pushing in. R emove t he key. T o unlock th e st eering, t urn t he key t o OFF while pushing in. Do not t urn t he key t o L OCK w hile ri ding the mot orcycle; loss of vehicle cont rol will result.
T o remove the seat ( ), in sert th e ig nition key int o t he sea t lock ( ) a nd tur n it clockwise. Pull the sea t back a nd up. T o inst all t he s eat , inser t t he f ront prongs ( ) in to t he f ront stay ( ) and the rear pro ng s ( ) into th e rear sta ys ( ) on the fr a m e .
T h eh e l m e t h o l d e r sa r el o c a t e db e l o wt h e seat (pag e ). Hang t he helmet s on the holder hooks ( ). Install the seat and lock i t securely.

T he rear f ender has a storage c ompartment to st ore a U- shaped ant i-t hef t lock under the seat ( page ). A f t er st oring, be sure t o f a sten t he lock w ith t he r ubber band ( ) securely. Som e U-shaped lo cks may n ot be stored in the compa rt ment due t o the ir size or design.

Insert th e pin spanner ( ) in t he extension ba r ( ) prov ided in the t ool kit (page ) . Wh en raising t he f uel ta nk, be car ef ul not to allow th e collars f all dow n. Place the ba se of th e extension bar ov er the insta lled bolt a nd position t he pin spanner so that it support s the f uel tank.

Your m otor cycl e’ s ex haus t con tain s poisono us car bon monoxi de gas. High levels of carbon monoxi de can col lect rapid ly in encl osed areas such as a garage. Do not run t he engine w ith t he ga rage door closed. Even w ith t he door open, run t he engine only long enough t o move y our motorc ycle ou t of the garag e.
Be f ore sta rtin g, i ns ert the key , turn the ignit io n sw it ch ON a nd con f i rm t he f o llowing: T he tr ansmission is in neut ral (n eutr al in di ca tor is O N) . T he engine st op swit ch is at (R UN). T he ma lf unct ion indicat or la mp and low oil pressur e indicat or s hould go of f a f ew seconds af ter t he engine st art s.
− If the engine f ails to start af ter repeated attem pts , it m ay be floo de d. L ea ve t he engine s top sw it ch set to (R UN ). Op en thr ottl e f ull y. Press t he sta rt but ton f or 5 seconds. Follow t he norma l star ting pr ocedure. If th e engine st art s w ith unst able idle, op en th e thro ttle sl ig htl y.
He lp assu re you r motorc ycl e’s f utu re relia bility and per f or mance by pay ing extra att ention to how you ride du ring the f irst 500 km (300 m iles).
− A f ter t he e ngine has be en wa rmed up, the mot orcycle is r eady f or riding. Wh ile th e engine is idling , pull in the clutch lev er and depr ess th e shif t lever t o shif t int o 1st (low) gear. Slowly r elease t he clut ch lever a nd at t he same t ime g ra dually i ncre as e engine s p e e db yo p e n i n gt h et h r o t t l e .
Coordinat e t he th rott le a nd brakes f or smooth deceleration.
