CONT INUED If you ever have a mo de rate to severe side impact , sensors will detect rapid accelerat io n and si gnal t he contr ol unit t o inst antly inf la te either the driver’s o r the passenger’s sid e airbag . If t he side a irbag of f indica tor comes on (s ee page ), hav e the passenge r sit upright . Once t he passenge r is out of t he air bag’s deployment pat h, t he syst em will tu rn the ai rb ag ba c k on , and the indicat or w ill go out.
If t he impact is on t he passenger’s side, t he passenge r’s side cur ta in airb ag will inf late even if there are no occupant s on tha t side of t he vehicle. A f ter selecting a pro per chi ld seat an d a g o o d p l ac e to in s tal l the s ea t, the re are th re e m ain step s in inst alling t he seat : A ll child sea ts mus t be secured t o the ve hicle with t he lap par t of a la p/shoulder be lt or wit h th e LATCH (Lo we r An c h o r s an d T ethers f or CHildren) system.
Make sure t here are no objects near t he anchor s tha t c ould prevent a secure connection b etw ee n th e ch i l d s ea t and the anch ors. Move the seat belt buckle or t ongue awa y f r om the lowe r anch ors.
What ever type you h ave, f ollow the ch i l d s ea t mak e r’ s i n s tru ctio ns f or adj usting or t ight ening the f it .
