INTRODUCTION 3 Introduction Thank you for choosing Harman Kardon! With the purchase of a Harman Kardon A VR 3000 you are about to begin many years of lis- tening enjoyment. T he A VR 3000 has been cus- tom designed to provide all the excitement and detail of movie sound tracks and every nuance of musical selections .
4 SAFETY INFORMA TION Safety Information Important Safety Information V erify Line V oltage Before Use Y our A VR 3000 has been designed for use with 220-240-V olt A C current. Connection to a line voltage other than that for which it is intended can create a safety and fire hazard and may damage the unit.

Before using the remote , it is important to remember to press the Input Selector button 4 that corre- sponds to the unit you wish to operate .
REMO TE CONTROL FUNCTIONS 13 J Direct Button: Press this button when the tuner is in use to start the sequence for direct entry of a station’ s frequency . After pressing the button simply press the proper Numeric K eys H to select a station (See page 31 for more information on the tuner).

SY STEM CONFIGURATION 17 System Configuration When all audio , video and system connections have been made , there are a few configuration adjustments that must be made . A few minutes spent to correctly configure and calibrate the unit will greatly add to your listening experience .
18 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration First T urn On and Use of the OSD Once the speak ers have been placed in the room and connected, the remaining steps are to program the system configur ation memories . SY STEM CONFIGURATION 19 Input Setup T he first step in configuring the A VR 3000 is to select an input. T his may be done by pressing the front panel Input Source Selector ! until the desired input.
20 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration you are in doubt as to which category describes your speak ers, consult the specifications in the speak ers’ owner’s manual, or ask your dealer . Remember that the speak er setup must be made individually for each input of the A VR 3000.

22 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration Logic delay should be set at twenty millisec- onds . NO TE: The DTS , Logic 7, 5CH Stereo, Hall and T heater modes use a fixed, nonadjustable delay time .
SY STEM CONFIGURATION 23 Using EzSet Harman Kardon’ s exclusive EzSet remote makes it possible to quickly and accurately set the AVR 3000’ s output levels without the use of a sound pressure meter , although manual adjustment is also available .
24 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration Continue to adjust the individual speak ers until they all have the same volume . Note that adjust- ments should be made with the ‹ / › buttons E on the remote only , NO T the main vol- ume controls .
OPERA TION 25 Operation Basic Operation Once you have completed the setup and configu- ration of the AVR 3000, it is simple to operate and enjoy . The following instructions should be followed for you.
26 OPERA TION Operation Surround Mode Chart MODE FEA TURES DELA Y TIME RANGE DOLBY DIGIT AL Available only with digital input sources encoded with Dolby Digital data. It provides Center: 0 ms – 5 ms up to five separate main audio channels and a special dedicated Low F requency Effects Initial Setting – 0 ms channel.
OPERA TION 27 Operation Surround Mode Selection One of the most important features of the A VR 3000 is its ability to reproduce a full multi- channel surround sound field from digital sources , analog matrix surround encoded pro- grams and standard stereo or even mono pro- grams .
28 OPERA TION Operation or a PCM audio track from DVD , use the Logic 7 C or Cinema mode . F or stereo or surround encod- ed pure music recordings use the Logic 7 M or Music mode for a wider front sound stage (see Surround Mode Chart page 26).

30 OPERA TION Operation Output Level T rim Adjustment Normal output level adjustment for the A VR 3000 is established using the test tone, as outlined on pages 22 and 23. In some cases , however , it may be desirable to adjust the output levels using program material such as a test disc, or a selection you are familiar with.
