30 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration T o start with the delay settings at first select any input associated with such a Dolby mode . Next, continue within the MANUAL SETUP menu (Figure 8). If the system is not already at that point, press the OSD button L to bring up the master menu.

OPERA TION 35 Operation Basic Operation Once you have completed the setup and configu- ration of the A VR, it is simple to oper ate and enjoy . T he following instructions should be fol- lowed for you.
36 OPERA TION Operation • To set the output of the A VR so that the output is “flat, ” with the tone and balance controls de- activated, press the T one Mode button 8 once or twice so that the words Tone Out appear momentarily in the Main Information Display ˜ .
OPERA TION 37 Operation Digital sound tracks av ailable on laser discs. Connect the RF output of the LD player to the demodulator and then connect the digital output of the demodulator to the Optical or Coaxial inputs *Ó of the A VR. No demodulator is required for use with DVD players or DTS- encoded laser discs .
38 OPERA TION Operation • The MP 3 DSP mode found in the new A VR requires an MP3 SPDIF stream. Presently , only a few units provide this but in the coming genera- tions of motherboards and operating system updates this will follow , since SPDIF is the stan- dard for audio & video hardware .
OPERA TION 39 Operation indicators will light, as analog signals have only left and right channels . Digital signals , however , may have one , two , five , six or seven separate channels , depending on the program material, the method of transmission and the way in which it w as encoded.
40 OPERA TION Operation NO TES: • The digital outputs are active only when a digital signal is present, and they do not convert an ana- log input to a digital signal, or change the format of the digital signal (e .g. Dolby Digital to PCM or vice versa, but coaxial digital signals are converted to optical signals and vice versa).
ADV ANCED FEATURES 41 Advanced Featur es T he A VR is equipped with a number of advanced features that add extra flexibility to the unit’ s operation. While it is not necessary to use these features to operate the unit, they provide addi- tional options that you may wish to use .
42 ADV ANCED FEATURES / MUL TIROOM OPERATION Advanced Featur es / Multiroom Operation T o turn off the semi-OSD system, you will need to mak e an adjustment in the ADVANCED SELECT menu (Figure 13). To start the adjust- ment, press the OSD button L to bring the MASTER MENU to the screen.
MUL TIROOM OPERA TION 43 Multiroom Oper ation Installation Although simple remote room systems may be installed by the average do-it-yourself hobbyist, the complexity of your multizone/multiroom sys- tem involves running wires inside of walls where the services of a specially trained installer may be required.

46 PROGRAMMING THE REMO TE Configuring the Remote T he A VR 635 remote is factory-programmed for all functions needed to operate the unit. In addi- tion, it is also preprogrammed to oper ate most recent Harman Kardon DVD players and chang- ers , CD players and changers , CD recorders and cassette decks .
PROGRAMMING THE REMO TE 47 Progr amming the Remote Although the A VR remote is preprogrammed with an extensive library of codes for many major brands , it is also possible that you may have attempted to program a product that is too new or too old, and thus not all of its commands will be in the code library .

Press the ⁄¤ Navigation Buttons E until the name of the macro you wish to read appears . F or this example, we will read back the Power On macro created in the previous section.

T he first press shows a “W ,” the subsequent presses step through the other letters available until the “Z” appears .

56 TROUBLESHOO TING GUIDE T roubleshooting Guide Processor Reset In the rare case where the unit’ s operation or the displays seem abnormal, the cause may involve the erratic oper ation of the system’s memory or microprocessor . T o correct this problem, first unplug the unit from the AC wall outlet and w ait at least three minutes .
