Service 310643U 3 Service Pressure Relief Procedure Follow the Pressure Relief Pr ocedure whenever you see this symbol. 1. Engage trig ger lock. 2. Turn ON/OFF switch to OFF. 3. Unplug power cord. 4. Disengage trigger lock. Ho ld metal part of gun against grounded metal pail an d trigger gun into pail to relieve pressure.
Service 4 310643U Repair When Pump is Separated From Sprayer Disassembling the Pump 1. Remove packin g nut (202) and o-rin g (228). 2. Unscrew intake va lve from cylinder. 3. Disassemble intake valve. Clean and inspect o-ring (227). NOTE: A pick may be require d to remove o-ring.
Service 310643U 5 6. Unscrew piston valve from piston rod. Clean and inspect parts. The piston has a special thread lock- ing/sealing patch. Do not remove the patch. The patch allows four disassembly/assembly procedur es before it is nece ssary to apply thre ad sealant to the threads.
Service 6 310643U 2. Install ball (206 ) in pisto n rod. If th read sealan t is applied to piston valve threads, make sure that non e gets on ball. 3. Tighten piston valve to piston ro d as specified: 4. Soak all leather packing s in SAE 30W oil for one hour minimum prior to assembly.
Service 310643U 7 7. Slide piston a ssembly into bottom of sleeve. 8. Grease top inch or two of piston rod that will go through the cylinder throat packings. 9. Grease o-rings (221) and pla ce on sleeve. Slide sleeve/piston ro d assembly into bottom of cylinder.
Service 8 310643U 12. Install intake valve on cylin der. If a wrench is used torque as follows: 13. Torque packing nu t (202) down onto adjustm ent spacer (22 8) 100 + /- 10 in-lb. (11.3 +/- 1.1 N•m) 14. Remove o-ring (22 8) when pump packings begin to leak after extended use.
Service 310643U 9 Repair When Pump is On Sprayer 1. Perform Pressure Relief Pro cedure , page 3. 2. Remove intake valve. 3. Push up ret aining spring ( 26). 4. Push out pin (29). 5. Disassemble intake valve. Clean and inspect. O-ring (227) may re quire a pick for remo val.
Service 10 310643U 7. Invert piston rod and sleeve and pound on hard sur- face until piston rod comes out of sleeve. Mark IV models: Remove sleeve spacer from sleeve. 8. Remove packin g nut (202 ). 9. Invert piston rod and insert into cylinder to force out throat packings.
Service 310643U 11 14. Remove packings and glands from piston rod. 15. Soak all le ather pack ings in S AE 30W oil fo r one hour minimum prior to assembly. Stack male gland (219) on piston rod. Alternately stack UHMWPE (208 )and leather (218) packings (note orientation) on piston rod.
Service 12 310643U 18. Slide piston assembly into bottom of sleeve. Make sure V-packing and u- cup are not rolled over or damaged. Mark IV models: Install o-ring (2 31) on sleeve spacer (230). Install sleeve spacer on sleeve. 19. Grease top inch or two of piston rod that will go through the cylinder throat packings.
Service 310643U 13 24. Reassemble intake valve with new o-rings (227) and (230), seat (212) and b all (214). Seat may b e flipped over and used on other side. Cle an seat thoroughly. 25.
