1 Introduction This guide will h elp you get your h ardware and software in stalled. Use the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center to acce ss the comprehensive help system, generate a problem report, and get the software version information.

3 Inst alling the Graphics Card This topic guides you through the installati on of th e graph ics card. Before Y ou Begin Before you begin installi ng the graphi cs card, do the following. • Record the Serial and Part Numbers on page 3. • Uninstall Old Graphics Drivers on p age 4.
4 Uninst all Old Graphics Drivers To ensure successful instal lation of the graphics card driver, unin stall the graphic drivers for the existing graphics card before remov ing the graphics card from the computer.
5 Inst all the Graphics Card 1 Make sure the computer, monitor , and other peripheral devices are off. 2 Unplug the computer power cord a nd disconnect cables from the back of the computer .

7 Inst alling and Configuring Displays Connections The following illustrate the typical connections on the ATI Radeo n™ HD 2600 Series graphics card.
8 Adapters The following illustrates the adapters you can use to connect the graphics card to other disp lay devices. Supported Display Connections To ensure the highest possi ble perf orman ce, only one display device is supported when CrossFire™ is active.
9 If additional displays are required wh en CrossFire™ is active, use either SurroundView™ (in cluded on the installation CD, custom software install) or an additional graphics card. The graphics card provides hard ware support fo r DVI-I and VGA monitors, and HDMI™ HDTVs (using a DVI-t o-HDMI™ adapter).
10 4 When the New Hardware Found W izard appears, at the appropriate prompt insert the installation CD to load the drivers for th e graphi cs card. Once the drivers and softwa re have been in stalled, configure the display .

13 A TI Cat alyst™ Control Center The ATI Catalyst™ Control Center is software that provides access to the display features of the graphics card. Use the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center to fine-tune your graphics settings, enable or disab le connect ed display devices, and change the orientation of the desk top.

16 V iewing T ext on a TV A TV is designed primarily to show moving images. The large dot pitch o f a TV will yield poor q uality static im ages. The small text sizes commonly used for PC desktops can appear bl urred or unclear on a TV. You can compensate for this degradat ion by using larger fonts.
17 Note: For maximum performance when wat c hing DVD mo vies or playing computer games on the TV , find the mode and screen resolution that provide the best result, an d use those set tings exclusively . This topic includes th e following procedures: • Connect to an HDMI™ HD TV (DVI-to-HDMI™) o n page 18.
18 Connect to an HDMI™ HDTV (DVI-to-HDMI™ / PCI Express only ) Note: This option is available on graphics cards t hat support HDMI™. 1 Before connecting an HDMI™ HD TV , attach a monitor to th e computer and install the video drivers. 2 Make sure the computer and monitor are off.
19 4 Connect one end of the HDMI™-to-HDMI™ cable to the DVI-to- HDMI™ adapter . Connect the othe r end of the HDMI™-to-HDM I™ cable to the HDMI™ connect ion on the HDMI™ HDTV . 5 If necessary , configure the HDTV for external audio. For more information, see the document ation that came with the TV .
20 Connect to an HDTV (DVI-to-DVI) 1 Before connecting an HD TV , attach a monitor to the computer and install the video drivers. 2 Make sure the computer and monitor are off. DVI-to-DVI connectors 3 Connect one end of the DVI cable to the DVI connection on the graphics card.
21 6 Power on the monitor and HDTV , and then power on the comp uter . The HDTV will not display anything until Windows® starts. 7 Configure the HDTV using th e A T I Catal yst™ Con trol Center, Displays Manager and DTV (DVI).
22 3 Set the A TI HDTV C omponent V ideo Adapter DIP switches. Configure the DIP switches to set the appropriate display mode and aspect ratio. This sets the modes which appear when you select Show all Modes in the A TI Control Panel. a) S et the display mode Note: DIP switch 3 i s always off (540p is not support ed).
23 4 Attach the A TI DVI-to-HDTV comp onent video adapter to the DVI connection on the graphics card. 5 Matching the colors on the connections, connect one end of the RCA patch cables to the A TI DVI-to-HDTV component video adapter . Connect the other end of the RCA patch cables to the component video connections on the HDTV .
24 S-Video to Component Video (using the ATI 9-Pin HDTV Ou tput Cable) 3 Attach the A TI 7 -Pin HDTV Output Cable to the S-V ideo connection on the graphics card. 4 Matching the colors on the connectors, connect one end of the RCA patch cables to the A T I 7 -Pin HDTV output cable.
25 7 Power on the monitor and HDTV , and then power on the comp uter . The HDTV will not display anything until Windows® starts. 8 Configure the HDTV using th e A T I Catal yst™ Con trol Center, Displays Manager .
26 3 Connect the S-V ideo connector on the composite video cable to the S-V ideo connection on the graphics card. Connect the other end of the composite video cable to either the S-V ide o or composite video connection on the composite video device. 4 Power on the monit or and composite vide o device, and then power o n the computer .
27 Connect to a European video de vice (S-V ideo to SCART using composite video adap ter) 1 Before connecting a European video devi ce, attach a monitor and install the video drivers.
28 3 If the video device accepts P AL inpu t, you must change the NTSC/ P AL sett ing on the video card to P AL. NTSC is the TV standard used in North America. P AL is the TV st andard for most of Europe, Africa, Asia, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines.
29 Setting the Windows® V olume Control For correct audio performance, the sound card line input must be active. Depending on the op erating syst em you use, choose either the Windows® XP or Windows.
30 • Make files compatible with a specific video format. • Reduce video file size. • Convert video fi les for uploading t o an Apple® iPod® V ideo, Sony® PSP , or W indows® Mobi le-b ased Portable Media Center device.
31 1 From the W indows® deskto p, cli c k start, and then select Programs > Cat alyst Control Centre > Catalyst Control Center - Basic . 2 Click the Easy Setup Wizards tab. 3 From the list of wizards, choose A vivo Video Converter . 4 Click Go .
32 1 Connect a Sony® PSP to the co mputer using a USB connector . 2 Switch on the Sony® PSP . 3 Using the Sony® PSP system software, navigate to the top of the Settings list and select USB Connection . The system detects a new removable disk drive.
33 CrossFire™ CrossFire™ is a multi-GPU performance gaming platform, using CrossFire™-ready motherboards and CrossFire™-compatible graphics cards.

35 7 Install the CrossFire™ bridge in terco nnects. Caution! Always handle the CrossFire™ bridge interconnects by the connector only . Do not push or pull on the flexible cable. Proper handling of the CrossFire™ bridge interconnects a) Remove protection tags from th e connectors at each end of the CrossFire™ bridge interconnects.
36 CrossFire™ connections 8 Fasten the graphics card securely . Make sure the cables are not interfering with anything inside the computer (for example, a cooli ng fan) and replace the computer cover . 9 Connect the monitor to the graphi cs card in the primary slot.
37 10 Reconnect any peripherals you have disconnected and plug in the computer ’ s power cord. 11 Power on the monito r and th en the computer . Enabling CrossFire™ To take full advantage of runn ing dual graphics cards, enable and configure CrossFire™ in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center.
38 4 Enable A TI Catalyst™ A.I. to au tomatically select the preferred rendering mode for target applications. For applications that are not identified in A T I Catalyst™ A.I., or when A TI Catalyst™ A.I. is disa bled, default CrossFire™ rendering modes are used.

T roubleshooting The following troubleshooting tips may help if you experience problems.
40 Screen defects appear • Check if the monitor supports the resolution, horizontal (kHz) and vertical (Hz) refresh rates as required by the graphics card. • Check the current resolution, refresh rate, and color depth settings in the Settings and Monitor tabs in the Display Properties dialog.
41 CrossFire™-Specific T roubleshooting Problem Possible solution CrossFire™ is not functioning In order for CrossFire™ to function, the CrossFire™ bridge interconnects must correctly connect the CrossFire™ graphics cards. 1. Connect one end of the CrossFir e™ bridge interconnect to the internal VMO connection on one of the cards.
42 Determine the System Card Bus T ype There are two possible card bus types, A GP and PCIe™. If you have an AGP card you may need to update th e motherboard and chipset drivers. 1 Look at the motherboard and card. 2 Using the illustrat ion below for comparison, determ ine whether you have AGP or PCIe™ connectors.
43 AGP and PCIe™ graphics cards and system bus connectors 3 If you have AGP connectors and the graphics card is not working correctly , you may need to updat e the motherboard and chipset drivers for the computer . Up dating your AGP Motherboard/Chip set Drivers Note: This section applies o nly if yo u are inst alling an AGP graphics card.
44 Often you will see the name of a motherboard chipset in connectio n with these terms. For example: • ALi GAR T Driver • AMD AGP Miniport • Intel VGAR T • VIA AGP Dri ver Obt ain AGP drivers.
45 6 T o determ ine the manufacturer, click the [ AGP device name ] > Driver > Driver Det ails : Reinst alling Drivers You can install new drivers or reinst all existing drivers if there was a Windows® conflict. Note: T o ensure you have access to all the new features and performance options, download the latest driver from ati.
46 Tip ! If the installer fails to inst all th e driver or you have conflicts, you can download the latest software from ati.amd.com and then install th e software. Product Registration To activate your warranty and o btain product support through Customer Care, register your graphics card at: ati.
