5 BEFORE YOU BEGIN INFO Displays information about the disc, suc h as the available titles, and lets you c hoose whic h title you want to view. MARKER Allows you to select (or “mark”) places on a disc so that you can quickly find them. MENU Brings up the main menu of the D VD disc.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN 6 Installing Batteries in the Remote 1 . Open the battery door on the bac k of the remote. 2. Inser t fresh batteries. Make sure that the polarities (+ and –) are aligned correctly .
7 A Few Things Y ou should Know Before you connect your DVD player , there are a few things that you need to know. Protect Y our Components from Power Sur ges • Connect all components before plugging an y power cords into the w all outlet. • Always turn off the D VD player , TV and other components before you connect or disconnect any cables.
8 Jacks and Cables S-Video Jack and Cable The S-Video jac k provides the best picture quality for your DVD player . This jac k is available on many TVs and is used in conjunction with audio cables to connect the DVD player to your TV .
9 Choosing a Connection The following pages show examples of connections commonly used to connect the D VD player with a TV and other components. R efer to your TV , VCR, or Dolby Digital R ecei ver owner ’ s manual for more information on hooking up your specific components.
10 DVD Player + TV without A/V Input Jacks (Good Picture and Sound Quality) T o Connect the DVD Player If you do not have audio/video input jac ks on your television, you need to use an RF modulator , and a splitter . 1 . Connect one end of the A/V cables to the Lef t Audio and the Video outputs on the D VD player .

Connect the left and right audio cables. 2. Connect the video cable (or the S-Video cable if your television has an S-V ideo input).
12 DVD Player + TV + Dolby Digital Receiver (Best Picture and Sound Quality) T o Connect the DVD Player 1 . Connect the left and right A/V cables to the Dolby Digital receiver , Or Connect an optical cable to the DIGIT AL OUT jac k on the DVD player and to the digital input on a Dolby Digital receiver .
13 DVD Player + TV + VCR The following is one possible connection if you want to include a VCR in your connection sc heme. 14 Setting Up the Menu Languages By default, the menu language is set to English. If you want to c hange the menu language, go to the Setup menu and select the “Menu Language” option. Other Language Options The Menu Languages feature c hanges the language only for the text on the menu screens.
15 PLA YING DVDS A New W ay of Looking At Things In this section you learn how to use your DVD player to play Digital V ideo Discs (D VDs for short). As a little up-front information, you should know that although some of the remote buttons look the same as those you would use with a VCR or CD player , the functions work somewhat differently .

17 PLA YING DVDS DVD Playback Features Several options are available during D VD playbac k. Chapter Scan Because the DVD is divided into Chapter s, you can skip through a disc’ s contents one c hapter at a time. • Press and release SKIP REV to go to the beginning of the preceding Chapter .
18 PLA YING DVDS What’ s a Scene? Because D VD is a digital for mat, the infor mation can be separ ated in man y diff er ent wa ys. One wa y that a D VD might be separat ed is by scenes (as in a movies). Each scene might be a chapt er on a D VD , so rather than w atching the whole mo vie to get to a scene, you can just go str aight to it.

If you’ ve used a CD player before, you will probably notice that your D VD player has a lot of the same features as a CD player . 29 PLA YING VIDEO CDS What’s a V ideo CD? The Video CD format is similar to DVD in that V ideo CDs can contain movies. The big difference is in the amount of information that can be stored on a single CD. This section gi ves you all the information you need to know to play Video CDs on your D VD player .

33 PLA YING VIDEO CDS Changing the Audio Channel Output Y ou can c hange the c hannel output from the player by using the AUDIO button and the up ar row on the remote control. Note that you must be playing a stereo Video CD. 1 . Press A UDIO . 2. Press the Up Ar row to scroll through the audio output options (see diagram below).

Unlocking the Rating Level In order to unloc k the rating level, you need to enter the four -digit password.
