4 I NTRODUCTION Y our Caller ID phone stores and displays specific information, provided by your local telephone company , to subscribers of Caller ID or similar caller identification services. Y ou must subscribe to one of these services in order to use this unit.
5 M ODULAR J ACK R EQUIREMENTS Y ou need an RJ11(CA11A) type modular jack, which is the most common type of phone jack and might look like the one pictured here. If you don’ t have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.
6 1. Make sure wall mount bracket is securely fastened. 2. Set RINGER switch (on both the handset and the base) to ON. 3. Plug the power supply cord into the POWER 12V DC jack on the base and into an AC outlet. 4. Place handset in the base to charge for 12 hours.
7 W ALL M OUNT I NST ALLATION Because it is necessary to charge the handset for 12 hours prior to connecting the phone for use the first time, it is better to leave the unit on a flat surface during initial charge before attempting to hang it on the wall.
8 5. Remove the wall mount bracket. Rotate it so that the bottom of the phone is flat. Reattach the wall mount bracket by inserting the tabs into the slots on the top of the unit first, and then snapping the bottom tabs into place.
9 S ETUP S ETTING THE A REA C ODE IMPORT ANT: For proper Caller ID operation, you must enter your area code. This setting can only be done from the base. 1. Make sure the phone is OFF . 2. Press the PROGRAM button on the base. AREA SETTING shows on the display .
10 T ONE /P ULSE D IALING This adjustment allows you to select tone (touch-tone) or pulse (rotary) mode dialing. The phone is automati- cally set for touch-tone use. This setting can only be done from the base. T ONE 1. Make sure the phone is OFF . 2.
11 S ETTING THE T IME REMINDER: The time and date are programmed automatically when the first Caller ID information is successfully received after setup. 1. Make sure the phone is OFF . 2. Press and release the PROGRAM button on the base until TIME SETTING shows on the display .
12 S ETTING THE R INGER S OUND The ringer sound can be set separately on both the handset and base. 1. Make sure the phone is OFF . 2. Press and release the PROGRAM button on the base (or PGM/ MUTE on the handset) until RINGER SETTING shows on the display .

14 • Surfaces affected by vibration. • Recessed areas such as in a corner , under a cupboard, or next to a cabinet, which can generate an echo effect. Note the following guidelines when you use the speakerphone: • The speakerphone works similar to a two-way radio in that you can only listen or talk one at a time.

16 • Handset to Speaker — While using the handset, press HOLD and then press SPEAKER on the base. I NTERCOM The intercom feature of your cordless phone allows you to have a two-way conversation between the handset and the base unit without tying up the telephone line.
17 3. W ait for the person near the base to press the P AGE/INTERCOM button. 4. When finished, press INT on the handset (or P AGE/INTERCOM on the base) to deactivate the intercom. I NTERCOMING F ROM THE B ASE 1. Make sure the phone is OFF . 2. Press P AGE/INTERCOM.
18 I NTERCOMING W HEN Y OU H AV E A C ALL Y ou may want to use the intercom feature while you are on a call. 1. Press the HOLD button to put the call on hold. LINE ON HOLD shows on the display . 2. Follow the steps 2-4 in either the handset or base “ Using Intercom ” section to complete the intercom.
19 C ONFERENCE Y ou can use the speakerphone and handset at the same time for a 3- way conversation with a third party . C ONFERENCING FROM THE B ASE 1. Press SPEAKER. 2. Dial the number you want to call. 3. Press T ALK on the handset. The base and handset display CONFERENCE .
20 R EDIAL Press the RE/P A button to redial the last number you dialed, (up to 24 digits) F LASH Use the FLASH button to activate custom calling services such as call waiting or call transfer , which are available through your local phone company .
21 T EMPORARY T ONE This feature enables Pulse (rotary) service phone users to access touch-tone services offered by banks, credit card companies, etc., by pressing the TONE button to temporarily make the phone touch- tone compatible. IMPORT ANT: If you make test calls to emergency numbers stored in memory , remain on the line and briefly explain the reason for the call to the dispatcher .

36 C HANGING THE B A TTERY Make sure the phone is OFF before you replace the battery . 1. Remove the battery compartment door . 2. Disconnect the cord attached to the battery pack and remove the battery pack from the handset. 3. Insert the new battery pack and connect the cord into the jack inside the handset.
37 B A TTERY S AFETY P RECAUTIONS • Do not burn, disassemble, mutilate, or puncture. Like other batteries of this type, toxic materials could be released which can cause injury . • T o reduce the risk of fire or personal injury , use only the battery listed in the User ’ s Guide.
38 G ENERAL P RODUCT C ARE T o keep your telephone working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • A void putting the phone near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps). • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.
39 M ESSAGE I NDICA TORS The following indicators show the status of a message or of the unit. ERROR Caller information has been interrupted during transmission or the phone is excessively noisy . ENTER NAME or NUMBER Prompt telling you to enter name or number in one of the 9 memory locations.
40 T ROUBLESHOOTING T IPS C ALLER ID Problem Solution No Display • Is battery fully charged? T ry replacing the battery . • If you are using AC power , make sure that the unit is connected to a non-switched electrical outlet. Disconnect the unit from the plug and plug it in again.
41 T ELEPHONE Problem Solution No dial tone • Check installation: — Is the base power cord connected to a working outlet? — Is the telephone line cord connected to the base unit and the wall jack? • Disconnect the base from the wall jack and connect another phone to the same jack.
42 Problem Solution Dial tone is OK, but • Make sure the TONE/PULSE setting is programmed can't dial out correctly . Handset does not ring • Make sure the RINGER switch on the handset is turned to ON. • Y ou may have too many extension phones on your line.
