3 D ESKTOP I NST ALLATION 1. Plug the telephone line cord into the base and into a modular jack. 2. Plug the power supply cord into the base, into an AC outlet. 3. Set the PULSE/TONE switch to TONE for touch-tone service, or PULSE for r otar y service.

Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the jack marked PHONE LINE on the back of the unit, and plug the other end into a modular wall jack.
5 In addition to recharging the cord- less telephone, batteries in the base unit, you can use the Anyroom™ recharge cradle anywhere there is an AC power outlet. When fully charged, the battery pack provides sufficient power to enable the cordless phone to be left out of the recharge cradle for prolonged periods and still function pr operly.
6 C ORDLESS P HONE B ASICS CAUTION: Because cordless phones operate on electricity , you should have at least one phone in your home that isn’ t cordless, in case the power in your home goes out. M AKING A C ALL The only two things you need to know to make a call are: • Press the PHONE button before you dial.
7 RINGER OFF ON VOLUME FLASH TONE OPER # * 0 MEMORY REDIAL F LASH B UTTON Use the FLASH button to activate customer calling services such as call waiting or call transfer , which ar e available through your local phone company .
8 CAUTION: If you make test calls to emergency numbers stored in memor y , remain on the line and briefly explain the reason for the call to the dispatcher . Also, it’ s a good idea to make these calls in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.
9 C HAIN D IALING FROM M EMORY Use this feature to make calls which require a sequence of numbers, for instance if you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance number .
10 C HANGING THE B A TTERY The handset runs on a consumer -replaceable nickel cadmium battery pack. If you experience any of the following problems, you may need to replace the battery pack: • Short talk time • Poor sound quality • Limited range • CHARGE/IN USE light fails to light Make sure phone is OFF before you r eplace batter y .
11 B A TTERY S AFETY P RECAUTIONS • Don’ t disassemble, mutilate, puncture, wet, or dispose of battery in fire. Like other batteries of this type, if it is burned or punctured, it could release toxic materials which can cause injur y . • Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
12 H ANDSET S OUND S IGNALS Signal Meaning One beep every 7 seconds Battery is low Three long beeps (with ringer on) Page signal. A long warbling tone (with ringer on) Signals an incoming call.
13 • Reset the security code by placing the handset in the base for about 20 seconds. Dial tone is OK, but • Make sure the TONE/PULSE switch on the base is can’ t dial out correctly set (see p. 3). Handset does not ring • Make sure the RINGER switch on the handset is turned to ON.

C AUSES OF P OOR R ECEPTION • Aluminum siding. • Foil backing on insulation. • Heating ducts and other metal construction can shield radio signals. • Y ou’re too close to appliances such as microwaves, stoves, computers, etc.
