I NTRODUCTION Y our GE Caller ID T elephone is designed to give you flexibility in use and high quality performance. T o get the most from your new Caller ID T elephone, we suggest that you tak e a few minutes right now to read through this instruction manual.
2 M ODULAR J ACK R EQUIREMENTS Y ou need an RJ1 1 type modular jac k, whic h is the most common type of phone jack and might look like the one pictured here. If you don ’ t have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.
3 L OW B A TTERY I NDICA TORS When the battery begins getting to a low level, the battery symbol in the display flashes indicating that you need to replace the bat tery. NOTE: When the battery is low , AC power must be connected in order to edit, delete, or input Caller ID information.
4 T ELEPHONE I NST ALLATION D ESK OR T ABLETOP I NST ALLA TION NOTE: Be sure to read the preceding pages for information about using the 9-volt batter y backup before you begin the telephone installation. 1. Plug the handset cord into the handset and into the telephone jack on the left side of the unit.

6 S ETUP The telephone will prompt the initial setup after the 9V battery or AC power supply is connected. The initial setup procedure needs to be completed with the phone ”on-hook“, which means that the phone line is inactive (the handset in the cradle and the SPEAKER function off).
7 S TEP 3: S ETTING THE R INGER T ONE 1. Press the STORE button. 2. Press REVIEW (up) or REVIEW (down) to sample each of the available settings. 3. 8 T ELEPHONE O PERA TION S PEAKERPHONE L OCA TION & U SE G UIDELINES For best speakerphone performance, avoid the following: • Areas with high background noise. (The microphone might pick up these sounds and prevent the speakerphone from going into the receiving mode when you finish talking.
9 T HE D ISPLA Y The LCD also gives you visual feedback as you use the phone. The preceding illustration shows you the various elements of the display . In order to help you to bet ter under stand the role of the display , this User’ s Guide also shows you some of the specific screens you will encounter as you use your phone.
10 A DJUSTING V OLUMES Use the V OLUME and but tons to adjust the v olume of the ringer , the speak er , and the handset. Y ou can fast forw ard or rewind through volume level c hoices by pressing and holding the VOLUME or but ton. T o return to the normal volume settings, press both volume arrows at the same time.
11 B USY R EDIAL When you call and get a busy signal, press the BUSY/REDIAL button and then replace the handset to hang up. (If you're using the speakerphone, the unit will automatically hang up.) The phone automatically redials the number (up to 10 times).
12 H OLD Use the HOLD button to interrupt a phone conversation without hanging up; then resume the conversation on the same phone or an extension. 1. Press HOLD to place a call on hold. If you're using the handset, you can put it back in the cradle.
13 T EMPORARY T ONE If you have Pulse (rotary) service, and want to access customer calling services that require T one dialing (suc h as get ting information from a local bank), you can use this feature. 1. Press the TONE button ( * ) after you have connected to the customer calling service to enable T one dialing.
14 ENT ALARM HOUR STORE ENT ALARM MIN 11: _ _ STORE 11: 30 U SING THE A LARM This phone has a built-in alarm feature that you can use as an alarm clock. S ETTING THE A LARM 1. Press the ALARM button. 2. Press the STORE button. 3. Use the number keys to enter the alarm set hour (it must be a 2-digit entry).
15 M EMOR Y D IALING Each of the 10 memory buttons is capable of storing two separate phone number s that are up to 31 digits. Eac h MEMOR Y but ton accesses an upper and a lower memory position. Y ou can dial the phone number s stored in the upper position with one touc h (press the MEMOR Y location button).
16 S TORING THE L AST N UMBER D IALED 1. Press the STORE button. 2. Press BUSY/REDIAL. 3. Press the STORE button again. 4. Press a MEMOR Y location button, or press SHIFT and then a MEMOR Y location but ton to store the number . S TORING A C ALLER ID N UMBER 1.
17 R EMOVING I MPORT ANT C ALL S TA TUS 1. Press the MEMOR Y location button, or SHIFT and the memory location button to bring up the entry . 2. Press the # button to remove the important call status from the memory location. IMPOR T AN T CALL is remo ved from the display .
18 C HANGING A S TORED N UMBER T o c hange a stored number , you just replace it with a dif ferent number using the procedure for storing a number . D IALING A S TORED N UMBER M ETHOD 1 1. Pick up the handset or press SPEAKER. 2. Press the MEMOR Y location but ton or Press SHIFT and then the MEMOR Y location button.
19 L INK D IALING Having stored the necessary numbers in separate memory locations, follow these steps to store a link dial number: 1. Press STORE. 2. Press the access code ’ s MEMOR Y location but ton. 3. Press P AUSE (if needed). 4. Dial the phone number (or press the number ’ s MEMORY location button).

21 D ELETING R ECORDS Use the DELETE button to delete the record currently shown in the display , or all records. D ELETING THE C URRENT R ECORD 1. Press DELETE. The selected record is immediately deleted. D ELETING A LL R ECORDS 1. Press and hold DELETE (for approximately 3 seconds).
22 C ALLING O UTSIDE Y OUR A REA C ODE The unit automatically displays “1” plus the area code of the caller when it is different than the area code you entered during setup.
23 M ESSAGE I NDICA TORS The following indicators show the status of a message or the unit: BLOCKED CALL Caller ID information is withheld. BLOCKED NAME BLOCKED NUMBER END OF LIST In REVIEW mode indicates that there is no additional information in caller ID memory .
24 T ROUBLESHOOTING T IPS C ALLER I D Problem Solution No Display • If you are using battery power , try replacing the bat tery . • If you are using AC power , make sure that the unit is connected to a non-switched electrical outlet. Disconnect the unit from the plug and plug it in ag ain.
25 T ROUBLESHOOTING T IPS T ELEPHONE Problem Solution No dial tone. • Check hook switch to make W on't dial out sure it pops up. • Make sure TONE/PULSE is set to correct position. • Unplug the phone, wait 30 seconds and plug the phone back in.
26 G ENERAL P RODUCT C ARE T o k eep your Caller ID phone working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • A void putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps). • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.
