13 Getting to Know Y our LifeBook BATTERY CHARGING INDICATORS Located to the left of each of the Batte r y Level indicators is a small arrow symbol. This symbol sta tes whether that specific battery is charging. This indicator will flash if the battery is too hot or cold to charge.

15 Getting to Know Y our LifeBook FUNCTION KEYS Y our LifeBook notebook has 12 function keys, F1 through F12. The functions assigned t o these keys diff er for each application. Y ou should refer to your softwar e documentation to find out ho w these keys are used.

Once y ou hav e connected yo ur AC adapt er or charged the internal Lithium ion battery , you can pow er on your LifeBook notebook.

31 Getting Started Power Management Y our Fujitsu LifeBook not ebook has many o ptions and features for c onser ving batter y power . Some of these features ar e automatic and need no user intervention, such as those for the internal modem.

35 User Installable Features Lithium ion Battery Y our LifeBook notebook has a Lithium ion battery that pro vides power for operating your notebook when no external po wer source is a vailable. The battery is dur able and long lasting , but should not be ex posed to extreme temperatures, high voltages, chemic als or other haza rds.
36 LifeBook E8000 Notebook Dead Battery Suspend mode sho ws on the Status indi- cator just lik e the normal Suspend mode. Once your notebook goes into Dead Battery Suspend mode you will be unable t o resume operation until y ou pro vide a source of power either fr om an adapter , or a charged battery .

39 User Installable Features Using the Media Player Control Panel The media player software allows y ou to watch the movie much like a V CR play er . Y ou can pause, rewind, fast-forward and stop the movie at an y point. 1. T o pause the mov ie, click the on-screen button.

42 LifeBook E8000 Notebook INSTALLING EXPRESSCARD S There ar e two differ ent width ExpressCar ds: 34 mm and 54 mm. The connector inside the sl ot is located on the left-hand side of the slot. If yo u insert a 34 mm card, be sure t o align it with the left side of the slot when inserting it.

55 T roubleshooting PC Card/Exp ressCard Problems A card inserted in the PC Card or ExpressCard slot does not work or is locking up the system. The card is not pr operly installed.
56 LifeBook E8000 Notebook Y our LifeB ook notebook turns off all by itself. The powe r management parameters are set for aut o timeouts w hich are too short for your opera ting needs. Press an y button on the keyboard, or move the mouse to restor e operation.
57 T roubleshooting Shutdo w n and Startup Problems The Suspend/R esume button does not work. Suspend/Resume button is disabled. Enable the button by goin g to the Control P anel -> P ower Options P roperties and clicking on the Ad vanced tab. In the P ower buttons ar ea, select the option that best suits your needs.
58 LifeBook E8000 Notebook The built-in display is blank when you turn on your LifeBook not ebook. (con tinued) The display angle and brightness settings are not adequate for y our lighting conditions. Mo ve the display and the brightness control until y ou hav e adequate visibility .
