One for a cool only unit (see figure 1) and one for a heat-cool unit (see figure 2). System parameters for each system mode are saved when exiting a system mode, and retrieved when entering a new system mode.

Heat Control ( Heat Pump Only ) Satised Poin t Heating Mode Control Oper ation There are t wo heatin g methods: Heat Pump and Elect ric Resist ance H eat. There are 3 t ype s of units that provide heati ng: Heat Pump Only (Mode l YS 1 0M1 0 ) Heat Pump with Elec tr ic Heat and C ool wit h Electr ic Heat .
This heating i s more c omplex due to the pos sibilit y of t wo heating methods. If t he ambient indoo r temperature is be - low the heat demand t hreshol d ( 1.5 ˚F bel ow the heat set point temperature ), and the co mpresso r is not loc ked out, turn on c ompr essor .
Condition 2 If the Δ ( delta ) ( set point temperature minus the ambient indoor temperature ) is greater than 5 ˚F , the n the unit will switch to electr ic heat, if available. The unit will continue to operate with el ectr ic heat until the heat demand is satis ed.
Compressor Lock Out Time The loc kout feature ensures that the c ompres sor is de - ene rgized for a per iod of tim e. The timer varie s randomly from 180 to 240 seco nds The c ompres sor loc kout .

Remove the decorative front cover by using the tool provided (see gure below). T ighten the four (4) captive screws as indicated by the arrows in the gure above before closing the front panel (do not over tighten) . Ensure the lter is in place.
REPLACING THE INDOOR COIL THERMIST OR REPLACING THE CONTROL BOARD ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD W ARNING Disconnect power to the unit before servicing. Failure to follow this warning could result in serious injury or death. Remove the decorative front cover (see page 29).

CAP ACIT ORS ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD W ARNING T urn off electric power before servicing. Discharge capacitor with a 20,000 Ohm 2 W att resistor before handling. Failure to do so may result in personal injury , or death. Many motor capacitors are internally fused.
HEA TING ELEMENT All heat pumps and electric heat models are equipped with a heating element with the exception of model YS10M10. The other “YS” and “ES” models are equipped with a 3.3 KW element. The “YM” and “EM” models are equipped with a 4.
If the User Interface does not turn on: 1. Make sure the unit has the proper voltage and that it is turned on. 2. Disconnect the User Interface’s wire harness on the control board. 3. Using a voltmeter, check the top and bottom pins of the male connector (see picture below).
Suction Line Evaporator Coil Metering Device Refrigerant Strainer Discharge Line Condenser Coil Compressor Refrigerant Drier Liquid Line A good understanding of the basic operation of the refrigeration system is essential for the service technician.
• R-410A pressure is approximately 60% higher than R-22 pressure. • R-410A cylinders must not be allowed to exceed 125 F , they may leak or rupture.
Proper refrigerant charge is essential to proper unit operation. Operating a unit with an improper refrigerant charge will result in reduced performance (capacity) and/or efciency .
3. Install a process tube to sealed system. 4. Make necessary repairs to system. 5. Evacuate system to 200 microns or less. 6. Weigh in refrigerant with the property quantity of R-410A refrigerant. 7. Start unit, and verify performance. 8. Crimp the process tube and solder the end shut.
Underchar ged R efriger ant Systems An undercharged system will result in poor performance (low pressures, etc.) in both the heating and cooling cycle. Whenever you service a unit with an undercharge of refrigerant, always suspect a leak. The leak must be repaired before charging the unit.
R estricted Refrigerant System T roubleshooting a restricted refrigerant system can be difcult. The following procedures are the more common problems and solutions to these problems. There are two types of refrigerant restrictions: Partial restrictions and complete restrictions.
METERING DEVICE Capillar y T ube Systems All units are equipped with capillary tube metering devices. Checking for restricted capillary tubes. 1. Connect pressure gauges to unit. 2. Start the unit in the cooling mode. If after a few minutes of operation the pressures are normal, the check valve and the cooling capillary are not restricted.
NOTE: System operating pressures must be near normal before valve can shift . REVERSING V AL VE DESCRIPTION/OPERA TION The Reversing V alve controls the direction of refrigerant ow to the indoor and outdoor coils. It consists of a pressure-operated, main valve and a pilot valve actuated by a solenoid plunger .
Reversing V alve in Heating Mode TESTING THE REVERSING V AL VE SOLENOID COIL The solenoid coil is an electromagnetic type coil mounted on the reversing valve and is energized during the operation of the compressor in the heating cycle. 1. T urn of f high voltage electrical power to unit.
8. Pressurize sealed system with a combination of R-410A and nitrogen and check for leaks, using a suitable leak detector . Recover refrigerant per EP A guidelines.
Lock ed R otor V olta ge (L.R.V .) T est Locked rotor voltage (L.R.V .) is the actual voltage available at the compressor under a stalled condition.
Single Phase Resistance T est t e s d n a s l a n i m r e t r o s s e r p m o c e h t m o r f s d a e l e h t e v o m e R the ohmmeter on the lowest scale (R x 1). n o m m o c s l a n i m r e t m o r f r e t e m m h o e h t f o s d a e l e h t h c u o T r e t e m m h o e h t f o s d a e l e h t h c u o t , t x e N .
R ecommended pr ocedur e for compressor replacement 1. Be certain to perform all necessary electrical and refrigeration tests to be sure the compressor is actually defective before replacing. 2. Recover all refrigerant from the system though the process tubes.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD W ARNING T urn off electric power before service or installation. Failure to do so may result in personal injury , or death. S ealed Re f rigera t ion Syst em c on t ain s re f rigeran t and oil under high pre ss ure .
R OUTINE MAINTENANCE COILS AND BASE P AN The indoor coil (evaporator coil), the outdoor coil (condenser coil) and base pan should be inspected periodically (yearly or bi-yearly) and cleaned of all debris (lint, dirt, leaves, paper , etc.). Clean the coils and base pan with a soft brush and compressed air or vacuum.
SLEEVE / DRAIN Inspect the sleeve and drain system periodically (at least yearly or bi-yearly) and clean of all obstructions and debris. Clean both areas with an antibacterial and antifungal cleaner . Rinse both items thoroughly with water and ensure that the drain outlets are operating correctly .
