IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 21 10/100/1000Base-T Twisted Pair Ports The switches have 24 10/100/1000Base-T ports. Speed The ports can operate at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps. The speeds may be set manually using the management so ftware or automatically with Auto- Negotiation (IEEE 802.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 22 The MDI and MDI-X settings do not apply when ports are op erating at 1000 Mbps. Maximum Distance The ports have a maximum operating distance of 100 meters (328 feet). Cable Requirements For the cable requirements for the ports, refer to Table 2 on page 24.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 23 Power Over Ethernet The AT-IX5-28GPX switch features Po wer over Ethernet (PoE) on the 10/ 100/1000Base-T ports. PoE is used to su pply power to network devices over the same twisted pair cables that carry the n etwork traffic.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 24 Powered Device Classes Powered devices are grou ped into the five classes listed in Table 1 on page 24. The classes are based on t he amount of power the devices require. The switches support all five classes. Cable Requirements The cable requirements for ports operating a t 10 or 100Mbps are given in Table 2.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 25 The cable requirements for ports op erating at 1000Mbps are given in Table 3. Power Budget The AT-IX5-28GPX switch has a power budget of 720 watts when two power supply modules are installed. This is the maximum amount of power the switch can provide at one time to the powered devices.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 26 documentation for their power requirements and add the requ irements together. The switch should be able to p ower all of the devices simultaneously as long as the total is belo w its power budget.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 27 You can use port prioritization on dual power su pply PoE switches to protect your important networking devic es fro m loss of power should one of the power supplies fail or lose pow er.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 28 SFP+ Slots The switches have four SFP+ slots that support the following types of SFP 1000Mbps and SFP+ 10Gbp s transceivers: 1000Base-SX/LX SFP transceivers Single-port.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 29 Stacking SFP+ Slots Two of the four SFP+ slots on the front pa nel of the switch can be used with stacking transceivers to create a VCStack of up to four AT-IX5- 28GPX switches. The switches of a VCSt ack act as a single virtual u nit.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 30 eco-friendly Button You may turn off the port L EDs to conserve electricity when you are no t monitoring the switch. The LEDs are toggled with t he eco-friendly button on the front panel of the switch or the ECOFRIENDLY LED and NO ECOFRIENDLY LED commands in the Gl obal Configuration mode of the command line interface.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 31 LEDs Here are descriptions of the LEDs. LEDs for the Twisted Pair Ports Each twisted pair port has two LEDs that display link, a ctivity and PoE information. The LEDs are shown in Figure 4. Figure 4. LEDs for the 10/100/1000Base-T Ports The LEDs are described in Table 4 on p age 31.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 32 LEDs for the SFP+ Slots The LEDs for the SFP+ slots are located between the slots, as shown in Figure 5. Each SFP+ slot has one LED. The left-hand LED is for the top slot and the right-hand LED is for the bottom slot. Figure 5.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 33 The LEDs are described in Table 5 . LEDs for the Stacking Slots SFP+ slots 27 and 28 may be used as stacking slots to build a VCStack of up to four switches. For background information, refer to Chapter 2, “Virtual Chassis Stacking” on page 39 .
Chapter 1: Ove rview 34 Switch ID LED The Switch ID LED, shown in Figure 6 on page 34, displays the ID number of the switch. A stand-alone switch has the ID number 0.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 35 The switch displays the letter “F” for fault on the ID LED if it encounters one of the following problems: A cooling fan has failed. An unsupported power supply mod ule has been installed. One of the power supplies has failed.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 36 USB Port The management panel has a USB port. You may use the port to store configuration files on flash drives and to restore the files to switches whose settings have been lost or co rrupted, or to quickly configu re replacement units.
IX5-28GPX Installation Guide 37 Console Port The Console port is used to establish a management session with th e switch to configure its features a nd parameter settings. This type of management uses serial RS-23 2 and is commonly referred to as loca l or out-of-band management because it is not conducted over your network.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 38 Power Supplies The AT-IX5-28GPX switch has two rear slots for hot - swappa ble power supplies. The switch is supplied wit h a factory in stalled blank pane l that covers both power supply slots, and with a separat e blank panel t o use if you only install one power supply.
