SAFETY INFO RMA TION The F ederal Communications Commission (FCC), with its action in General Docket 79-144, March 13, 1985, has adopted a safety standard for the human exposure to radio frequency ( RF) electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC r egulated equipment.
B A TTER Y CHARGING AND CARE Do not dispose of the batter y pack in fire - it ma y ex plode, causing injur y or death. Do not replace the battery in hazardous atmosphere locations. Do not carr y batter y loose in your pock et or purse. Do not attempt to repair batter y .
T o remov e the batter y pack, push up on the batter y latch and slide the batter y pack to the right. T o replace the batter y , align the batter y on the track and slide to the left until a click is heard, indicating the battery is correctly installed.
FOR BEST PERFORMANCE 1. Charge batter y to full capacity , 14 hours at the stand- ard C/10 rate (capacity X .10). For "rapid" chargers, allow additional time (2-3 hours) for "topping off" the charge after it switches from "f as t" to "slow".

INTRO DUCTION This manual describes how to use the ED A CS M-RK II P or table Radio . The M-RK II is a synthesized, micro- processor-based, high per f or mance por table FM radio providing reliable tw.
USER INTERF A C E The M-RK II operating controls are located on the radio’ s front, top and left panels. A 15-button k eypad, liquid cr ystal display (LCD) f or radio status information, microphone and speaker are on the front panel.

BUTT ONS AND KNOBS This section des cribes the primar y function of the button and knob controls . Other functions associated with these controls are detailed in later s ections. SYSTEM /GROUP /CHANNEL KNOB Selects syst ems or groups/channels (depending on programming).
EMERGE N- CY/HOME- BUTT ON The EMERGENCY/HOME button is used to automatically select a de- sired Group and/or System by press- ing and holding the button for a pre- programmed duration. The EMER- GENCY/HOME button is als o used to declare emergencies by pressing and holding the button f or a pre-pro- grammed duration.

ON - ( conv entional mode only ) indicates that the selected channel has T99 decode option enabled. FLASHING - indicates T ype 99 is tempo- rarily disabled. UNIVERSAL DEVICE CONNECT OR (UDC) The Univ ersal De vice Connector (UDC) pr ovides connections f or e xternal acces sories such as a headset or a speaker-microphone.
ALERT T ONES The M-RK II radio also provides audib le aler t tones or "beeps" to indicate the v arious operating conditions. These aler t tones can be enabled or disab led through programming. Call Originate A shor t mid-pitched aler t tone sounds after ke ying the radio (Push-T o-T alk button is pressed).

Gr oup And Ch ann el Selection Se veral methods, some of which depend on program- ming, can be us ed to select a ne w group or channel. These procedures are presumed to be star ting from the nor mal receive displa y .

Error Messages If either of the f ollowing error messages is displa y ed, the radio was either programmed incor rectly or needs ser vicing: DSP ERR ERR=xxxx DSP ERR P ower Up Only If the Aegis circuit.
Cr yptographic ke ys are trans f erred to the radio using a cr yptographic K eyloader . Up to sev en (7) differ ent cr yptographic keys, n umbered 1-7, can be transf erred from a K eyloader and stored in the r adio . An individual ke y is automatically selected on a per-group/channel basis acc ording to the radio’ s programming.
2. Plug the modular connector of the K eyloader cab le into the K eyloader modular jac k. 3. Connect the K eyloader cable to the UDC on the radio . 4. Press the PWR button on the Ke yloader and wait for the K eyloader to displa y "MASTE R MODE".

PRIV A TE OPERA TION Receiving An Encrypted Call When receiving, the radio automatically s witches be- tween clear or private operation. If the transmission being received is an encr y pted transmission, it will be de- cr ypted, the status flag will flash, the receiver will unsquelch and the mes sage will be heard in the speaker .
If the radio is programmed f or for ced private transmit operation, "FRCD PVT" will be display ed if an at- tempt is made to disable private transmit mode .
LAST SYSTEM/GROUP OR CHANNEL RECALL (SUPER VISOR Y RADIO UNITS ONL Y) This feature enab les the us er to recall the last se- lected system/group after an ED ACS emergency or home function, a c onv entional emergency or home func- tion or sy stem/group ke y function.
ED A CS TR UNKED MODE OPERA TION Digital trunking provides fast communication access at all times, e ven during busy hours . In this mode the operator selects a communications system and group, and the audio communication or wor king channel (WC) is allocated through digital signalling with the site.
6. GROUP CALL - When the radio receives a group call, it unmutes on the assigned working channel and comes on. Line one shows GR follo wed by the logical ID number (if received) of the unit sending the message, or the assoc iated name if the ID number is found in the individual call list.
3. When the working channel is assigned, and are tur ned on and a shor t beep s ounds indicat- ing that communication can begin. 4. Hold the radio approximately three inches from the mouth and speak in a normal voice into the micro- phone (located between and on the ke ypad).

SCA T OPERA TION A SCA T (Single Channel Autonomous T runking) Sys- tem operates with the same set of features as a standard ED ACS system.
Receiving An Emergen cy Call When receiv ing an emergency call from the selected group and system, an aler t beep is heard and comes on. The message *RXEMER* flashes in the dis- play on line two until the emergenc y condition is cleared. F ollow standard emergency procedures.
5. The emergency can be cleared by pressing and holding the CLEAR/MONITOR b utton f ollowed b y pressing the EMERG ENCY button then releasing both buttons . SCANNING TRUNKED S YSTEMS The follo wing f eatures allow interaction with systems other than the selected system to meet specific customer needs.
Pr oSound The radio ma y be programmed f or ProSound system scan operation for multi-site applications. ProSound scanning is an enhanced replacement f or wide area system s canning. This algorithm insures that the radio continually receives high quality audio.
Pre-Pr ogrammed Ke ypad Ke y Press the pr e-programmed ke y and the SYSC ON or SYSC O FF displa y mess age is display ed f or two sec- onds to show the new state. SCANNING TRUNKED GROUPS Groups which have been pre vious ly added to the scan list on a per system basis ma y be scanned.
2. Pre ss . turns off. Any group that is not in a system’ s group scan list will not s how when it is the selected group . A group can also be deleted from the scan list, if it is not the currently selected c hannel, by pressing during sc an operation while the radio is displa ying the unwanted group .
2. When a group on the scan lis t receives a channel assignment, the radio unmutes on the assigned channel and comes on. Line one shows GR follo wed b y the logical ID number (if received) of the unit sending the message, or the associated name if the ID number is found in the individual call list.
PROGRAMMABLE ENTRIES Individual call ID numbers, telephone numbers and other number sequences for overdialing are stored in the special call lists when programming the radio . The first ten entr y locations of these lists c an be changed by the radio operator .
INDIVIDU AL CALLS Receiving And Respo nding T o An Individ ual Call (T runked Mode Onl y) When the radio re ceives an individual call (a call directed only to the user’ s radio), it unmutes on the assigned working channel and turn s on the indi- cator .

Indiv idual calls are s tored in the top half of the list (1-10), and group c alls are stored in the bottom half of the list (1-10). The most recent call is stored in position 1, the sec ond most recent call is s tored in position 2, etc.
Call Stora ge Lists There are two lists a v ailable f o r call storage in the radio , the calls received list (1-10) and the personality list (1-99 as defined b y the user). When the indiv idual call mode is entered b y pressing , the calls rec eiv ed list is av ailable .
When in the pre-stor ed list, pressing toggles the Logical IDentification (LID) on and off. Sending An Ind ividual Call (T runked Mode Only ) The f ollowing procedures describe how to initiate and complete an individual call.
TELEPHONE INTERCONNECT CALLS Receiving A T elephone Inter connect Call (T runked Mode Onl y) Receiving a telephone inter connect call is identic al to receiving an individual call. See the DTMF Overdial Operation section if ac cess to ser vices requir ing "ov er - dial" is needed.

• Pressing the no data (ND) key toggles data state on or off . • Clearing an emergency (valid only if emergency caused data off operation) Exiting Data Calls Under normal c onditions, the radio enters the scan lock out mode and returns to the control channel after completion of a data call (transmit or receive).
• Entering phone call mode. • Entering indiv idual call mode. • A new emergency assignment has been received. • An emergency declared or cleared. • Receiving an individual or phone call. • Receiving Agency , Fleet or System All Call. • Pressing the button to tur n scan on or off.
Pressing the button when the desired state is display ed c hooses the new ProFile state. The display then retur ns to the system/group displa y . If a selection is not made before the display time-out time the current menu selection becomes the ne w selection.

T o view the currently selected status after it has been transmitted, press the key and then the CLEAR button prior to the time-out period. If the status was not sent successfully to the site, the te xt associated with the status will flash in the display .

CONVENTIONAL MODE OPERA TION The radio functions in the con v entional mode when using conventional communications channels (non- trunked). Each channel consists of a preset frequency pair f or transmit and receive during repeater operation, or a single frequency f or both transmit and receiv e during talk-around (no repeater) operation.
Menu Selection 1. Press the key and then use the RAMP control or to sc roll through the selections until SQUELCH is display ed. Then press (SE- LECT) again. 2. The display will show SQLCH=xx , where "xx" is the value between 1 and 16. 3. Use the RAMP control or to sc roll through the values.
Pre-Pr ogrammed Ke ypad Ke y 1. Press the pre-programmed key and the displa y will indicate SQLCH=xx , where "xx" is the value between 1 and 16. 2. Use the RAMP control or to scroll through the values. Then press the key t o sav e the ne w v a lue or wait f or the displa y time-out (2 seconds).

TYPE 99 DECODE (CONVENTIONAL ONL Y) If the T ype 99 Decode Option has been pre-pro- grammed, individual selective calling is poss ible . The radio can now decode individual, group or supergroup paging calls. T wo sets of T y pe 99 paging codes m ust be pre-programmed into the r adio .
Menu Selection Pre ss and then use the control to scroll through the selections until T99 ENAB is dis- play ed. Then press to toggle the T ype 99 decode state. The T99 ON or T99 OFF displa y message is displa yed f or two seconds to show the new state .

As an operator of two wa y radio equipment, the user must be thoroughly familiar with the rules that apply to the intended type of radio operation.
