And when you’re n ot exercising, the treadmill can be folded away, taking less than half the floor space of conventional tread- mills.
ASSEMBL Y Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not d ispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. No te: The unde rsid e of the tre admi ll w alki ng b elt is coated with high-performance lubricant.
7 3. Insert a Wheel (93) into a Wheel Housing (43). Attach the Wheel with a Wheel Bolt (92) and a Nut (25). Note: Do not overtighten the Nut; the Wheel should turn freely . Tip the Uprights (99) forward slightly and insert the Wheel Housing (43) into the base of the Uprights as shown.
8 6. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. Place a mat beneath the treadmill to protect the floor or carpet. For your benefit, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the TROUBLESHOOTING section on pages 22 and 23.
9 THE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high- performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil- i cone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
10 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec- tive and enjoyable. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
1 1 H OW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE Insert the key into the console. See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 1 0. Select the manual mode. When the key is inserted, the manual mode will be selected. If you have selected a program, press the Manual button to reselect the manual mode.

13 H OW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 10. S elect a preset program. To select a preset program, press the Speed & Incline Programs button repeatedly. The right dis- play will show which program (P-1 to P-6) is se- lected.

15 H OW TO CREATE A CUSTOM PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 10. S elect a custom program. To select a custom program, press the Custom Programs button repeatedly until “P-9,” “P-10,” “P- 11,” or “P-12” appears in the right display.

17 H OW TO USE A HEART RATE PROGRAM Follow the steps below to use a heart rate program. Put on the chest pulse sensor. Note: You must wear the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 19) to use a heart rate pro- gram. While using the chest pulse sensor, do not use the handgrip pulse sensor.
18 Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the progr am. A moment after the button is pressed, the tread- mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and i ncline settings of the program. Hold the handrails and begin walking.
19 THE INFORMATION MODE/DEMO MODE T he console features an information mode that keeps track of treadmill usage information. The information m ode also allows you to select miles or kilometers as the unit of measurement and to turn on and turn off the demo mode.
20 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE B efore folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
21 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand as shown. Using your left hand, pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the frame down until it is past the pin on the latch knob. Then, slowly release the latch knob.
22 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please see the front cover of this manual. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a.
23 PROBLEM: The walking belt slows when walked on S OLUTION: a . Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 9. b . If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill perfor- mance may decrease and the walking belt may be permanently damaged.
24 The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex- ercise program. For more detailed exercise informa- tion, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity.
25 SUGGESTED STRETCHES T he correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1 . Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
