1 OVERVIEW Your access point can function in three different modes. The default mode for your ac cess point is AP mo de . AP mode is a regul ar access point for use in your wireles s network. AP Controller mod e acts as the desig nated master of an AP a rray (group of linked access point s).

8 II. Hardware Installation II - 1. Router/PoE Switch 1. Connect a rout er or PoE switch to th e access point’s LAN 1 port using an Ethernet cable. Po E switches mus t be connected to the access point’s LAN 1 port.
9 II -2. Magnetic Wall Mount The access point includ es a magnetic wall mount whic h requires so me assembly. 1. Use the included magn etic wall mount screw template to identify and mark correct screw positions on y our selected wal l. 2. Attach the two mag netic wall mount strips to your wall using the incl uded screws, as shown below.
AP Mode 10 III. Qu ick Setup Your access point can be up a nd run ning in just a f ew minutes. This quick installation gu ide will help to set up your access point in its defaul t AP mode an d configure its basi c settings. For use a Mana ged AP withi n an AP array no settings are neces sary.

AP Mode 20 System Model Displays the model number of the access point. Product Name Displays the product na me for reference, which consists of “AP” plus the MAC address. Uptime Displays the total time since the devi ce was turned on. Boot From Displays information for the b ooted hardware, booted from either USB or int ernal memory.
AP Mode 21 frequency. Authentication Method Displays the aut hentication method for the specified SSID. See IV -3. Wireless Se ttings Encryption Type Displays the encry ption type for the specif ied SSID. See IV -3. Wirele ss Settings VLAN ID Displays the VLAN I D for the specified SSID.
AP Mode 22 IV -1- 2. Wireless Clients The “Wireless Clients” pa ge displays information about al l wireless clients connected to the a ccess point on the 2.4GHz o r 5GHz fr equency. Refresh time Auto Refresh Time Select a time interval for th e client tabl e list to automatically refresh.
AP Mode 23 Connected Time Displays the total time the wireless cli ent has been connected to the access point. Idle Time Client idle ti me is the time for which the client has not transmitted any da ta packets i.e. i s idle. Vendor The vendor of the client’s wireless adap ter is displayed here.
AP Mode 24 IV -1- 3. Wireless Monitor Wireless Monitor is a t ool built into the access point to scan and monitor the surro unding wireless environm ent. Select a frequency and click “Scan” to di splay a list of all SSIDs withi n range along with relevant details for each SSI D.
AP Mode 25 Signal (%) Displays the current signal strength of the SSID. Type Displays the 802.11 wireless netw orking standard(s) of the specified SSID.
AP Mode 26 IV -1- 4. Log The system log dis plays system oper ation information such a s up time and con nection processes. This information is usefu l for network ad ministrat ors. When the log is full, old entries are overwritten. Save Click to save the log as a fi le on your local computer.

AP Mode 29 Default Gateway For DHCP users, se lect “From DHCP” to get default gateway from your DH CP server or “User - Defined” to ent er a gateway manua lly. For static IP users, the defa ult value is blan k. DHCP users can select t o get DNS servers’ IP a ddress from DHCP or manuall y enter a value.
AP Mode 30 IV -2- 2. LAN Port The “LAN Port” page al lows you to configure the setti ngs for your access point’s two wired LAN (Ethernet) p orts. Wired LAN Port Identifies LAN port 1 or 2. Enable Enable/disable specif ied LAN port. Speed & Duplex Select a speed & d uplex type for spe cified LAN port, or use the “A uto” value.
AP Mode 31 IV -2- 3. VLAN The “VLAN” (Virtual Local Area Network) enables you to conf igure VLAN settings. A VLAN is a local area n etwork which maps workstations virtuall y instead of physically and a llows you to group together or isolate users from each other.

AP Mode 36 IV -3-1- 2. Advanced These settings are for experienced users only. Please do not chang e any of the values on th is page unless you are al ready familiar wit h these functions. Changing these settings can adversely affect the performance of your access point.
AP Mode 37 802.11g Protection Enable/disable 802.11g p rote ction, which increases reliability but reduces ban dwidth (clients will send Request t o Send (RT S) to access point, and access point will broadcast Clear to Send (CTS), befo re a packet is sent from client.
AP Mode 38 IV -3-1- 3. Security The access point p rovides various se curity options (wireless data encryption). When data is encrypted, inform ation transmitted wirelessly cann ot be read by anyone who does not know the correct encryptio n key. It’s essential to configure wireless security in order to prevent unauthorised access to your network.
AP Mode 39 SSID Selection Select which SSID to confi gure security settings for. Broadcast SSID Enable or disable SSID broadcast . When enabled, the SSID wil l be visible to clients as an available Wi- Fi network.
AP Mode 40 IV -3-1- 3- 2. WEP WEP (Wired Equiv alent Privacy) is a basic encrypti on type. For a hi gher level of security consider using WPA encryption.

AP Mode 44 2.4GHz WDS Functionality Sel ect “WDS with AP” to use WDS wi th access point or “WDS De dicated Mode” to use WDS and also block communicat ion with regular wireless clients. When WD S is used, each access point should be co nfigured wit h corresponding MAC address es, wireless channel and wi rel ess encryption me thod.
AP Mode 45 IV -3-1- 5. Schedule The schedule feature allows y ou to automa te the wireless network for sp ecified times. Check/uncheck th e box “Enable Wireless Schedule ” to enable/disabl e the wireless scheduling functi on. The access point’s time and date s ettings must be set in order to use this function.
AP Mode 46 IV -3- 2. 5GHz 11ac 11an The “5GHz 11ac 11an” menu allows you to view and configure info rmation for your a ccess point’s 5GHz wireless network ac ross five categories: Basic, Advanced, Secu rity, WDS & Schedule.
AP Mode 47 access point. Com binations of 802.1 1a, 802.11n & 802.11ac can be selected . Enable SSID Number Select how many S SIDs to enable for t he 5GHz frequency from th e drop down menu. A maximum of 16 ca n be enabled. SSID# Enter the SSID name fo r the specified SSID (up to 16).

AP Mode 49 Fragment Threshold Set the fragment threshold of t he wireless radio. The default value is 2346. Multicast Rate Set the transfer ra te for multicast packets or use the “Auto” set ting. Tx Power Set the power output of the wireless radio.
AP Mode 50 IV -3-2- 3. Security The access point p rovides various s ecurity options (wireless data encryption). When data is encrypted, inform ation transmitted wirelessly cannot be read by anyone who do es not know the cor rect encryption key.
AP Mode 51 Wireless Client Isolation Enable or disable wireless client isolati on. Wireless client isolati on prevents clients connected to the a ccess point from communicating wit h each othe r and improves security.
AP Mode 52 IV -3-2- 4. WDS Wireless Distribution System (WDS ) can bridge/repeat access points tog ether in an extended network . WDS settings can be configured as sho wn below.
AP Mode 53 5GHz WDS Mode WDS Functionality Select “WDS with AP” to use WDS wi th access point or “WDS De dicated Mode” to use WDS and also block communicat ion with regular wireless clients. AP Mode 54 IV -3-2- 5. Schedule The schedule feature allows y ou to automate the wireless network for sp ecified times. AP Mode 55 IV -3-2. WPS Wi -Fi Protected Setup is a simple way to establish connections betwe en WPS compatible devices. WPS can be activated on c ompatible devices by pus hing a WPS button on th e device or from wit hin the device’s firmware/confi guration interface (known as PBC or “Push Button Conf iguration”).
AP Mode 56 WPS Check/uncheck this box to ena ble/ disable WPS functionalit y. WPS must be disabled when using MAC-RADIU S authenticat ion (see IV -3-1-3-6 & IV-3-4 ). WPS Product PIN Displays the WPS PI N code of the d evice, used for PIN code WPS.
AP Mode 57 IV -3-3. RADIUS The RADIUS menu allows you to conf igure the access point’s exte rnal RADIUS server settings. A RADIUS server p rovides user-bas ed authent ication to improve securit y and offer wireless client control – users c an be authent icated before gaini ng access to a networ k.
AP Mode 58 IV -3-3- 1. RADIUS Settings Configure the RADI US server settings for 2.4GHz. Each freq uency can use an internal or external RADIUS s erver.
AP Mode 59 RADIUS Type Select “Internal” to u se the access p oint’s built- in RADIUS server or “ex ternal” to use an external RADIUS server. RADIUS Server Enter the RADIUS server host I P address. Authentication Port Set the UDP port used in th e authenticati on protocol of the RADI US server.
AP Mode 60 Internal Server Check/uncheck to enab le/disable the access point’s internal RADI US server. EAP Internal Authentication Select EAP internal authentication t ype from the drop down me nu. EAP Certificate Fil e Format Displays the EAP certif icate file format: PCK#12(*.
AP Mode 61 IV -3-3- 3. RADIUS Accounts The internal RADI US server can authent icate up to 256 user account s. The “RADIUS Accounts” page allows you t o configure and manage users.
AP Mode 62 User Name Enter the user na mes here, separated by commas. Add Click “Add” to add the user to the user registration list . Reset Clear text from the use r name box. Select Check the box to select a use r. User Name Displays the user name.
AP Mode 63 IV -3-4. MAC Filter Mac filtering is a security feature tha t can help to prevent un authorized users fr om connecting to your access point. This function al lows you to define a li st of network devices pe rmitted to connect to the access point .
AP Mode 64 commas, e.g. ‘ aa - bb - cc - dd - ee -ff,aa - bb - cc - dd - ee - gg ’ Add Click “Add” to add the MAC address t o the MAC address filt ering table. Reset Clear all fields. MAC address entri es will be listed in th e “MAC Address Fil tering Table”.
AP Mode 65 IV -3-5. WMM Wi -Fi Mult imedia (WMM) is a Wi -Fi Alli ance interoperability certificat ion based on the IEEE 802.11e standa rd, which provides Quality of Service (QoS) features to I EE 802.11 networ ks. WMM prioriti zes traffic according t o four categories: background, best effort, video and voice.
AP Mode 66 CWMin Minimum Content ion Window (milliseconds ): This value is inpu t to the init ial random backoff wait time al gorithm for retry of a da ta frame transmissio n.

AP Mode 68 Account to Manag e This Device Administrator Name Set the access point ’s administrator na me. This is used to log in t o the browser based configuration int erface and must be between 4-16 alphanumeric characters (case sensit ive). Administrator Password Set the access point ’s administrator pa ssword .
AP Mode 69 When SNMP is enab led, complete the SNMP fields below. SNMP Version Select SNMP version ap propriate for your SNMP manager. SNMP Get Community Enter an SNMP Ge t Community nam e for verification with the SNMP man ager for SNMP-GET reques ts.
AP Mode 70 IV -4- 2. Date and Time You can configure t he time zone settings of your access point here. The dat e and time of t he device can be conf igured manually or can be s ynchronized with a ti me server. Date and Time Setti ngs Local Time Set the acce ss poi nt’s date and ti me manually using the drop down men us.
AP Mode 71 Server Name Enter the host name or IP addre ss of the time server if you wish. Update Interval Specify a frequency (in hou rs) for the access point to update/sy nchronize with the NTP server. Time Zone Time Zone Select the time zone of you r country/ region.
AP Mode 72 IV -4- 3. Syslog Server The system log ca n be sent to a server or to attached USB st orage. Syslog Server Settings Transfer Logs Check/uncheck th e box to enable/disa ble the use of a syslog server, and ente r a host name, domain or IP address fo r the server, consisting of up to 128 alpha nume ric characters.
AP Mode 73 IV -4-4. Ping Test The access point includ es a built -in ping test function. Pi ng is a computer network administrat ion ut ility used to test whethe r a particula r host is reachable across a n IP network and t o measure the rou nd-trip ti me for sent messages.
AP Mode 74 IV -4-5. I’m Here The access point f eatures a built -in buzz er which can sound o n command using the “I’m Here” page. This is useful for netw ork administrators a nd engineers worki ng in complex network environm ents to locate t he access point .
AP Mode 75 IV -4-6. Operation Mode The access point can function in three diff erent modes. Set the operati on mode of th e access point here. AP mo de is a standalone access point, AP c ontroller mode acts a s the designated ma ster of the AP array, and Man aged AP mode a cts as a slave AP within the AP array.

AP Mode 77 IV -5- 2. Update Firmware The “Firmware” pag e allows you to upd ate the system firmware to a more recent version. Updated fi rmware versions often offer increased pe rformance and securit y, as well as bug f ixes. You can download the latest f irmware from the Edimax website .
AP Mode 78 IV -5- 3. Save/Restore Sett ings The access point ’ s “Save/Restore Set tings” page enables you to save/backup the access point’s current set tings as a file to your local computer or a USB device attached to the ac cess point , and restore the access poi nt to previously sa ved settings.
AP Mode 79 Restore Settings from PC Restore Settings Click the browse b utton to find a previously saved settings fi le on your compute r, then click “Restore” to repla ce your cur rent settings. I f your settings file is encrypted wit h a password, check the “Open file with password” box an d enter the passw ord in the field underneat h.
AP Mode 80 IV -5- 4. Factory Default If the access point mal functions or is not responding, then it is recommended that you reboot the device (see IV -5.
AP Mode 81 IV -5- 5. Reboot If the access point mal functions or is not responding, then it is recommended tha t you reboot the de vice or reset the a ccess point back to it s factory defaul t settings (see IV -5-4 ) . You can r eboot the access point remotely using this feature.
Edimax Pro NMS 82 I. Product Information Edimax Pro Netwo rk Management Suit e (NMS) supports the central management of a group of access po ints, otherwise known as an A P Array.
Edimax Pro NMS 83 II. Qu ick Setup Edimax Pro NMS is simpl e to setup. An ove rview of the system is shown below: One AP (access poi nt) is designated as t he AP Controller (maste r) and oth er connected Edimax Pro APs are auto matically designated as Mana ged APs (slaves).
Edimax Pro NMS 84 Follow the steps below: Ensure you have the latest firmware from the Edimax website for your Edimax Pro products. 1. Connect all APs to an Ethernet or PoE swit ch which is co nnected to a gateway/router. 2. Ensure all APs are powe red on and check LEDs.
Edimax Pro NMS 85 3. Designate one AP as t he AP Controller which will manage all other connected APs (up to 8). 4. Connect a comput er to the designated AP Cont roller using an Ethernet cable.
Edimax Pro NMS 86 5. Open a web brows er and enter the A P Controller’s IP address in the address field. The default IP address is 192.168.2.2 Your computer’s IP addr ess must be in the same subnet as the AP Controller. Refer to V-1. Configuring your IP Address for help.
Edimax Pro NMS 87 8. Click “Apply” to save the sett ings. 9. Edimax Pro NMS inclu des a wizard t o quickly setup the SSID & se curity for Managed APs. Cli ck “Wizard” in the top righ t corner t o begin. 10. Follow the instruct ions on-screen to complete S teps 1, 2 & 3 and click “Finish” to save th e settings.
Edimax Pro NMS 88 If any of your Managed APs are not found during Step 2 AP Discovery , reset the Managed AP to its factory default settings. 11. Your AP Controller & Ma naged APs shoul d be fully functional . Use the top menu to navig ate around Edimax Pro NMS.
Edimax Pro NMS 89 III. Software Layout The top menu features 7 panels: Das hboard, Zone Plan, N MS Monitor, NMS Settings, Local Network, Loc al Settings & Toolbox.
Edimax Pro NMS 90 Zone Plan Zone Plan displays a cust omizable live map of Mana ged APs for a visual representation of your netwo rk coverage. Each AP icon can be moved around the map, and a background image can be uploaded f or user -defi ned locati on profiles using NMS Settings Zone Edit .
Edimax Pro NMS 91 NMS Monitor The NMS Monitor panel provides mo re detailed monitoring in formation about the AP Arra y than found on th e Dashboard, grou ped according to categories in the menu d own the left side.
Edimax Pro NMS 92 NMS Settings NMS Settings prov ides extensive con figuration opt ions for the AP Array. You can manage each access point, assign a ccess points into groups , manage WLAN, RADIUS & guest network setti ngs as well as upgrade fi rmware across multiple access point s.
Edimax Pro NMS 93 Local Network Local Network set tings are for your AP Controller. You can confi gure the IP address and DHCP server of the AP C ontroller in addition to 2.4GHz & 5Ghz Wi -Fi and secu rity, with WPS, RADIU S server, MAC filtering and WMM set tings also available.
Edimax Pro NMS 94 Local Settings Local Settings are for your AP Control ler. You can set the ope ration mode an d view network settings (clients a nd logs) specifi cally for the AP Controller, as well as other man agement settings such as date/time , admin accounts, firmware and reset.
