1 Dosimetry 053-644, Rev E Page 1 eg4 & eg3 Chapter 1: Introduction Measuring noise in the workplace is an important element of hearing conserva tion programs and n oise reduction programs. With a noise dosimeter, you can asses s and dete rmine a worker’s daily exposure to n oise levels.

Essentially, a noise dosimeter is composed of the following: a micr ophone with a preamplifier, a weighted ne twork, fast or slow resp onse time, an interna l clock, calculator, and memory to store lo gged data.

Since the hum an ear can detect sounds with an extensive range of amplitude, a decibel scale is used to simplify the m easurement r esults.

Once the par ameters are set and saved in the dosimeter, you can monitor two differen t dosimeters by a single pr ess of the Enter bu tton.

Turning on LED indica tor 053-644, Rev E Page 8 eg4 & eg3 8 1. To turn on the Edge, press the on /off and enter button. The Edge splash screen (see Figure 2 -3 for an example, pa ge 10 ) will appear indicating the model ( i.e. “eg4” or “eg3 ” ) and firmware version .

You can use DMS for a variety of functions related to the Edge do simeter an d with many other 3M Quest instrum ents.
