Chapter 1 Page 2 Introduction About this Receiver Y our DISH Network sa tellite receiver has features that make watching TV more exciting. Along with the DVR fu nctions, you are about to discover new ways to make program ming choices.
Page 3 About this Receiver Single Mode Single Mode provides dual tuner features to a single TV like Picture-in- Picture (PIP) and the ability to watc h one live program while recording another . Program viewing at each TV location is th e same (Shared V iew enabled).

Page 5 Overview Fixed Images On some TVs, the presence of fixed images for extended periods of time may cau se them to be permanen tly imprinted on the screen. Consult your TV user guide for information on whether this is a problem for your TV , what operating/ viewing restrictions apply to avoid this problem, and associated TV warranty coverage.

Chapter 1 Page 20 Introduction 9. Select a program that you recorded in an earlier tour (one that is not recording now), then select Star t . 10. Y ou should now be watching a pre-recorde d program while the receiver is recording the other two events (programs).

Chapter 1 Page 22 Introduction Satellite Signal Quality Rain and Snow Fade Heavy rain, snow , or cloud cover can block the satellite signal, which can interrupt your programming service. By aiming the satellite dish to get the strongest signal during inst allation, you can help p revent rain and snow from interrupting the signal.

Indicators • TV1 Power - The green light indicates th at the receiver is providing programming to th e nearby TV through the TV1 out put connections.
Chapter 2 Page 24 Receiver Description and Installation Receiver Back Panel The receiver connections on the back panel are placed in three groups: • TV1 Connections - Use these connections with the nearby TV . • TV2 Connections - Use these connections with the remote TV(s).
Page 25 Receiver Back Panel Digit al Audio Out The D IGITAL A UDIO O UTPUT is for use with high-quality digital sound decoding systems. Connect the D IGITAL A UDI O O UTPU T with a Digital Audio Optical cable (available at consum er electronics stores).
Chapter 2 Page 26 Receiver Description and Installation RCA Out The RCA aud io/video output s provide high picture qu ality and stereo sound to your TV (if your TV has these connections). These outputs can be use d to provide TV2 menus and programming to a wireless audio/video transmitter or to a second input on a nearby TV .
Page 27 Remote Controls T ypes of Remote Controls Remote Control 1 uses infrared (IR) light signals to: • Control TV 1 menus for the nearby TV in Dual Mode . • Control the satellite receiver in Single Mode . IR signals travel only short distances (40 feet or less), and cannot go through walls or other solid objects.

Page 29 Connecting the Receiver to a Nearby TV Connecting the Receiver to a Nearby TV This section describes how to connect receiver TV 1 output ports to a nearby TV . The easiest way to connect the receiver to the TV is using coaxial cable connections, but you may also use RCA or S-Video outpu ts.

Page 49 Chapter 3 Using the System Using Dual and Single Modes Y our DISH Network satellite receiver incl udes features that gives you greater flexibility in how you watch TV . Th ese features include two modes of operation: Dual Mode and Single Mode .
Chapter 3 Page 50 Using the System Using Picture-In-Picture Single Mode lets you watch two programs at once using PIP . The following instructions describe how to use PIP: 1. Press the PIP button. The PIP window displays in th e lower-right corner of the screen.

Chapter 3 Page 58 Using the System Using the Menus The menus make using the receiver and selecting programs quick and easy . Use the menus to control the receiver and to use its features, such as setting locks, choosing a program, or creating a favorites list.

The receiver displays the Program Banner for a few seconds at the top of the TV screen every time you change the channel or press the remote control VIE W TV button.

Ti me r T y p e s There are three types of timers: • DVR - Records an event onto your receiver for later viewing. • Auto - Automaticall y changes th e cha nnel for live viewing of the event.
Page 71 Using Timers and Recordings For example, having six programs schedul ed to record at the same time cannot be done on a dual-tuner receiver; therefor e, the receiver will record only the two programs with the highest priorities. • All timers have a priority that you can change at any time.

Chapter 3 Page 74 Using the System Using the Daily Schedule Use the Daily Schedule to plan and manage yo ur timers. 1. Press MENU-7 . 2. Use the ARROWS to select a future program if you want to skip or restore a timer . Y ou can also choose to protect it, or view the start early/end late settings.

Page 77 Using Timers and Recordings Setting Up a DISH Pass™ Timer DISH Pass lets you create timers to re cord programs automatically based on your search criteria. When the receiver finds programs that meet your search criteria, it will automatically set a timer to record that program.
Chapter 3 Page 78 Using the System Note : After entering your search words, and selecting Create Ti mer , be sure to review the timers that DISH Pass creates—some may no t be what you are expecting. Y ou can: • Pick selected events to skip. Y ou will need to review future time rs each time the Program Guide is updated.

Page 81 Watching One Program While Recording Another Dual Mode with Record Plus Another feature that adds flexib ility to the way you watch TV is Record Plus . When Record Plus is enabled, you can decide which receiver output ( TV1 or TV2 ) will record your events.
Chapter 3 Page 82 Using the System 3. When the Record Remainder of This Eve nt screen displays, select one of the following: • From TV1, select TV2 . • From TV2, select TV1 . Note : When recording usi ng Record Plus , it is possible for someone at the other TV to cancel yo ur recording.
Page 83 Watching One Program While Recording Another 6. Press RECORD. Select one of the following: • Select OK to start the recording now . • Select Options to customize the recording as described o n page 82. 7. Press DVR on the remote control. The DVR Event screen will open.

Page 85 Using the DVR Features Using the DVR Features The DVR features let you decide how to watch TV . Y ou can pause, reve rse, or skip back through a p rogram. Then you can go back to watch, fast forward , or skip ahead through the program. Also, yo u can record and play back programs with full digital audio and video quality , without a VCR.
Chapter 3 Page 86 Using the System Press the FWD (“FORWARD”) button once to forward the program four times as fast as normal play . Press the FW D button twice to forward at 15 times normal speed, three times to forward at 60 times normal speed, and four times to forward at 30 0 times normal speed.

Chapter 3 Page 88 Using the System • If you hide adult channels and lock the receiver , this menu doesn’t list any adult programs by name. • T o review programs you h ave recorded or hav e scheduled to record with the DVR features, use this menu.
Page 89 Using the DVR Features • Press the FWD (“FORWARD”) button once to forward the program four times as fast as normal play . Press the FWD button twice to forward at 15 times normal speed, three times to forward at 60 times normal speed, and four times to forward at 300 times normal spee d.
Chapter 3 Page 90 Using the System 3. Select an event on the DVR Event s menu ( not the one you’re recording). This opens an info rmation menu for that event. 4. Press the PLAY button. Copy Recordings to V ideot ape You may want to keep a videotape copy of a recording you made o n the DVR.
Page 91 Using Themes and Search • Press the MENU button, and then select the Themes and Search option. 2. Select a category . 3. Select a program in the list. Note : If the program you highligh ted is on some time in the future, the receiver will open the Create An Event Ti mer menu.

Page 93 Using Locks 2. Select History to display the Search History scre en. 3. At the Search History screen, you have the followi ng options: • Search - Select one of the items and then select Search . • Edit - Select one of the items and then select Edit to make changes.
Chapter 3 Page 94 Using the System When Y ou Have Locked the Receiver • If you try to access a locked item or open the Locks menu, the receiver displays a message prompting you to enter the password. • The receiver a llows you three tries to enter the correct password.
Page 95 Using Locks 3. Select the Lock Syst em or Unlock System option. The receiver displays a message prompting you to enter a password to lock the system. 4. Enter and verify a password, us ing the NUMBER PAD buttons. The receiver displays stars (*) as you ente r the digits of the password.
Chapter 3 Page 96 Using the System Note : All ratings that are more restrictive than the selected rating are also selected. For example, if you lock PG-13 rated programs, then all programs with the R, NC-17, and NR/AO ratings are also locked. 6. Select the expanded rating code(s), if you want to also lock these ratings.
Page 97 Using Locks Locking and Unlocking the Receive r Front Panel (TV1 Only) This keeps anyone from using the front panel buttons, but it does not lock the remote control buttons. This option is only available on TV1 menus. 1. Press the MENU button.
Chapter 3 Page 98 Using the System 4. Select the Lock PPV or Unlock PP V option. 5. If the receiver is not locked, you must lock it to put the lo ck you just created into effect. Hiding and Showi ng Adult Channels When you hide adult ch annels, you keep the Program Guide , Themes lists, and the Browse Banne r from displaying adult channels .
Page 99 Using Locks highlights the OK option. 3. Press the SELECT button. 4. Select the Change Password option. 5. Enter the current password using the number pad buttons. As soon as you enter the fourth digit of the password, the receiver highlights the OK opti on.

Select the OK option to change the password. 9. Enter the new password ag ai n for confirmation, using the NUMBER P AD buttons.
Page 101 Personal Identification Number Personal Identification Number If you want to make sure that yo u are the only one who can make changes to your DISH Network account, yo u can assign a Personal Iden tification Number (PIN) for call-in requests.
