2 18 Hardware Installation 2.2.1 Installing the DIM Module A DIM module simply snaps into a DIMM socket on the system board. Pin 1 of the DIM module must correspond with Pin 1 of the socket. 1 . Pull the “tabs” which are at the ends of the socket to the side.

2 26 Hardware Installation The mainboard is equipped with two onboard USB 2.0 (compliant with USB 1.1) por ts (CN1 - Black) located at the A TX double deck po r ts of the board. The system board is also equipped with J13 for connecting 2 additional external USB 2.

2 32 Hardware Installation Onboar d Audio Jacks The mainboard is equipped with 3 audio jacks. A jack is a one-hole connecting interface f or inser ting a plug. Line-out Jack (Lime - CN3A1) This jack is used to connect external speaker s for audio output from the mainboard.
2 Hardware Installation 33 2.6.1 Internal Audio Connectors The CD-in and A UX-in connectors are used to receive audio from a CD-ROM driv e , TV tuner or MPEG card.
2 34 Hardware Installation 2.6.2 Floppy Disk Driv e Connector The mainboard is equipped with a shrouded floppy disk drive connector that suppor t s tw o standard flopp y disk dr ive s. T o prev ent improper floppy cable installation, the shrouded floppy disk header has a k eying mechanism.
2 Hardware Installation 35 2.6.3 IDE Disk Drive Connector The mainboard is equipped with tw o shrouded PCI IDE header s that will interface four Enhanced IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) disk driv es. T o prevent improper IDE cab le installation, each shrouded PCI IDE header has a k eying mechanism.
2 36 Hardware Installation Note: Refer to your disk drive user’s manual for information about selecting proper drive switch settings. Adding a Second IDE Disk Drive When using two IDE drives, one must be set as the master and the other as the sla ve.

If y ou are installing a chassis fan in the system unit, connect the fan’s connector to location J14 on the mainboard. The fan will provide adequate airflow throughout the chassis to prevent overheating the processor .

2 42 Hardware Installation 2.6.9 LEDs DIMM Standby Power LED This LED will turn red when the system’ s power is on or when it is in the Suspend state (P o wer On Suspend or Suspend to RAM). It will not light when the system is in the Soft-Off state.

2 Hardware Installation 45 2.6.11 Front Panel Connectors HD-LED: Primary/Secondary IDE LED This LED will light when the hard drive is being accessed. G-LED: Green LED This LED will not light when the system’ s power is on or when the system is in the S3 (STR - Suspend T o RAM) state .
2 46 Hardware Installation PWR-LED: Power/Standby LED When the system’ s p o wer is on, this LED will light. When the system is in the S1 (POS - P o wer On Suspend) state, it will blink ever y second. When the system is in the S3 (STR - Suspend T o RAM) state, it will blink 4 times in ever y second.
47 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1 The Basic Input/Output System The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a program that takes care of the basic level of communication between the processor and peripherals. In addition, the BIOS also contains codes for various advanced f eatures found in this mainboard.
48 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.1.1 Date The date format is <day>, <month>, <date>, <year>. Day displays a da y , from Sunday to Saturday . Month displays the month, from Jan uar y to December . Date displays the date, from 1 to 31.
49 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility IDE HDD Auto Detection Detects the parameters of the dr ive. The par ameters will automatically be shown on the screen. IDE Primary Master/Slave and IDE Secondary Master/Slave If y ou wish to def ine y our o wn drive type manually , select “Man ual”.

Some entries are defaults required by the mainboard, while other s, if enabled, will improve the performance of your system or let you set some features according to your preference.

54 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.2.7 Boot Up Floppy Seek When enabled, the BIOS will check whether the floppy disk drive installed is 40 or 80 tracks. Note that the BIOS cannot distinguish between 720K, 1.2M, 1.44M and 2.88M drive types as they are all 80 tracks.
55 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.2.12 Security Option This field determines when the system will prompt for the password - ev er ytime the system boots or only when y ou enter the BIOS setup. Set the password in the Set Super visor/User Passw ord submenu.
56 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.3 Advanced Chipset Feature s This section gives you functions to configure the system based on the specif ic features of the chipset. The chipset manages bus speeds and access to system memor y resources. These items should not be alter ed unless necessar y .
57 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Current FSB Frequency This field shows the detected FSB of the CPU. Current DRAM Frequency This field shows the detected frequency of the DRAM.
58 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility DRAM Timing This field is used to select the timing of the DRAM. By SPD The EEPROM on a DIMM has SPD (Serial Presence Detect) data str ucture that stores infor mation about the module such as the memor y type , memor y siz e , memor y speed, etc .
59 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility A G P Aper ture Size This f ield is relevant to the memor y-mapped graphics data of the A GP card installed in your system. Lea ve this in its default setting, which is 128M. A GP Mode This f ield is used to select the A GP mode of the A GP card installed on the mainboard.
60 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility A GP Driving V alue This f ield is used to select a value f or the A GP Driving control. W e recommend that you leave this field in its default setting. A GP Fast Write Select Enab led to suppor t the A GP Fast Write function.

62 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.3.4 Memory Hole This f ield is used to select the memor y area that must not be addressed to the ISA bus. 3.1.3.5 System BIOS Cacheable When this field is enabled, accesses to the system BIOS ROM addressed at F0000H-FFFFFH are cached, provided that the cache controller is enabled.

Y ou may not use IrD A (J8) and the COM 2 (J4) ser ial por t at the same time . If yo u are using the COM 2 serial por t , make sure this field is set to Normal.
68 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Parallel Port Mode The options are SPP , E PP , ECP and ECP+EPP . These apply to standard specifications and will depend on the type and speed of y our device. Ref er to your per ipher al’ s man ual for the best option.
69 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.4.4 Init Display First This field is used to select whether to initialize the onboard VGA, AGP or PCI first when the system boots. Onboard/AGP When the system boots, it will first initialize the onboard VGA or AGP. PCI Slot When the system boots, it will first initialize PCI.
70 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.5 Power Management Setup The P ow er Management Setup allows y ou to configure y our system to most effectiv ely save energy . The settings on the screen are f o r r ef erence only . Y our version ma y not be identical to this one.
71 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.5.3 Power Management Option This field allows you to select the type (or degree) of power saving b y changing the length of idle time that elapses before the “Suspend Mode” field is activated. Min Saving Minimum power saving time for Suspend mode = 1 hr .
72 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.5.8 MODEM Use IRQ This field is used to set an IRQ channel for the modem installed in your system. 3.1.5.9 Soft-Off by PWRBTN This field allows you to select the method of powering off your system.
73 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility PS2KB W akeup Select Password T o use a password to wak e up the system, select this option then press <Enter>. Enter your password. Y ou can enter up to 5 character s. T ype in exactly the same password to confirm, then press <Enter>.
74 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility USB Resume from S3 This function, when enabled, allows you to use a USB keyboard or USB mouse to wake up a system that is in the S3 (STR - Suspend T o RAM) state. VG A When set to On, the system will respond and wake up to any V GA activity .
75 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility • When enab l ed, the system will power -on to respond to calls coming through an external or internal modem. Refer to “Wa k e-On-Ring Connector” in chapter 2 for more information.

77 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.6 PnP/PCI Configurations This section shows ho w to conf igure the PCI bus system. It cover s some ver y technical items and it is strongly recommended that only experienced user s should make any changes to the default settings.
78 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.6.4 IRQ Resources Mov e the cursor to this field and press <Enter>. The “IRQ-3” to “IRQ-15” fields will appear . Set each system inter rupt to either PCI Device or Reser ved. 3.1.6.5 PCI/V GA Palette Snoop This f ield deter mines whether the MPEG ISA/VESA V GA cards can w or k with PCI/V GA or not.
79 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.6.8 PCI Slot 1 Use IRQ to PCI Slot 3 Use IRQ By default, an IRQ is automatically assigned to the PCI devices that are installed in the PCI slots. If a PCI device has not been assigned an IRQ , you m ust manuall y assign an IRQ for the device.

81 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.7.4 CPU Clock This field provides several options for selecting the external system bus clock of the CPU . The a vailable options allow y ou to adjust the CPU’ s b us cl ock in 1MHz increment. The default setting is “100MHz”.
82 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.8 Load Fail-Safe Defaults The “Load Fail-Safe Defaults” option loads the troub leshooting default values permanently stored in the ROM chips. These settings are not optimal and turn off all high perfo rmance features.
83 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.10 Set Supervisor Password If you want to protect your system and setup from unauthorized entr y , set a super visor’s passw ord with the “System” option selected in the Advanced BIOS Features.
84 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3.1.12 Sav e & Exit Setup When all the changes ha ve been made, highlight “Sa ve & Exit Setup” and press <Enter>. The message below will appear : Save to CMOS and Exit (Y/N)? N T ype “Y” and press <Enter>.

87 4 Supported Software 4.1 Desktop Management Interface (DMI) The mainboard comes with a DMI built into the BIOS. DMI, along with the appropr iately netw or ked software, is designed to make i n ventor y , maintenance and troubleshooting of computer systems easier .
88 4 Supported Software 4.1.2 Using the DMI Utility The four menus located on top of the DMI Configuration Utility screen are Edit DMI, Add DMI, Load DMI File and Save DMI File. Use the ← or → (left or right) arrow keys to select a menu from the Menu bar .

Highlight the item on the left screen that you would like to add by using the ↑ o r ↓ arrow keys, then press <Enter>. 3 .
