3 2. Inst all Wireless USB Adapter This section p rovides instructions on ho w to install the Wireless N 150 High Power USB Adapter . The driver is installed along with th e utility. Step 2.1 Fas ten the provided 5dBi a ntenna to the USB adapte r. Step 2.
4 Windows Vis ta Users : Step 2.4 In sert the Installation CD in the CD drive. The Autorun screen will pop up. Select Install Utili ty and Driver from the menu. Note: If the Au torun screen doe sn’t appear automatically, go to to My Computer → Explore the CD Drive → go to Utili ty folder, then run Setup.
5 Windows 7/V ista Users : When you get warning message(s), make sure that you give permission to continue with the in stallation of the driver software. Step 2.5 Click Nex t to start the in stallation. Step 2 .6 Please wait when W indows is installing th e driver fo r Airlink101 Wireless Adapte r .
6 Windows 7/V ista Users: click on Install this driv er softw are an y wa y . Step 1.8 Se lect Yes, I will restart m y computer now . Click Finish to complete the installation. The driver and utility have been inst alled successfully. Plea se continue to Chap ter 3.
7 3. Connec t to Wireless Netw ork This section d escribes how to connec t your wireless USB adapte r to a wireless network. Step 3.1 Open the Airlink101 W ireless Monitor utility by double clicking on the icon in the system tray at t he bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
8 Note: If your rou ter doesn’t suppo rt Easy Setup Button fea ture (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), please go to Step 3.3 . A) Push the E asy Setup Button of the Adap ter until you see the fo llowi ng window pops up on your com puter monitor.
9 C) The router will no w start to synchro nize the encryption settings with the wireless adapt er. The connection will be e stablished in fe w seconds. Co ntin ue to Step 3 .5. If the conne ction is unable to estab lish, continue to Step 3 .3. Step 3.
10 Step 3.4 Ente r the wireless security key into t he Network Ke y and Confirm Network Key boxes. Click OK . The wireless ad apter will automatica lly detect the type of Net work Authenticat ion and the Data encryption.
11 Step 3.5 The co nnection should be now established. Under t he utility Airlink101 W ireless Monitor, go to G eneral tab to check the status of the connect ion. Verify that IP A ddress , Subnet Mask and Gatewa y have valid num bers assigned to them (instead of a ll 0’s).

Wireless Mo nitor This section d escribes the various func tions of the W ireless Monitor that you can configure, in cluding the settings of wireless e ncryption. 4.1 General The Ge neral tab provides you with the st atus of the current connect ion, including signal, network name (SSID) and IP Add ress.
13 Radio Off: Ch eck/uncheck this bo x to turn off/on the wireless func tion of the adapter. Disable A dapter: Check/uncheck this b ox to disable/enable the wireless adapte r.
14 4.2 Profile Settings The Profile t ab lists the current profiles and allows you to add/remo ve/edit profiles. The Avail ab le P ro file( s) box lists all t he profiles that you’ve crea ted for your ne twork. A profile is a utomatica lly created and added to this list when you co nnect to a new ne twork.
15 To create a new prof ile, click on A dd . The Profile b ox will appea r allowing you to specif y the se ttings for your new prof ile. Enter the prof ile settings here, includin g Profile Name, SSID, Ne twork Authentication, Data Encryption and Network Key.
16 4.3 Available Network The Available network tab lists all of the networks that the ada pter detects in your a rea. Clicking Refresh will ref resh the list.
17 4.4 Status The status section provides you with a list of information a bout the current status of the adapter..
18 4.5 Statistics The Statistics section gives you inf ormation about transm it and receive packet count..
19 4.6 Wi-Fi Protected Setup (Easy Setup Bu tton) The W i-Fi Protected Setu p™ ( Eas y Setup Button ) is a new and easy way to c onf igure the encryption for your wireless net work clients. In orde r to use it, you need to have a router that supports this feature, like the AR570W Airlink101 W ireless N 150 Rout er.
20 Step 4.6 .2 When you see this window pop s up, W ithin the following 2 minutes, pus h the Easy Setup B utton (i.e. WPS button) on the ba ck of the router and hold for 1 second. The router will no w start to synchro nize the security settings with the wireless USB adapt er.
21 Select the Access Point that you want t o connect, and then click S elect . W rite down the PIN Code on a p iece of paper..
22 (The following step s are different for each router. Please refer to the use r’s manual of your router fo r detailed instructions.) Step 4.6 .3b Log o n to the router AR570W ’s web conf iguration page f rom the browser (i.e. Interne t Explore or Mozilla Firefox) and click on Wire less .
23 After a few mom ents both the router conf iguration screen and the adapter conf iguration screen sh ould show a m essage telling you that a connec tion is establishe d. Note: If you cannot conn ect successfu lly with WPS, you need to log in to your router’s configuratio n and make sure the W PS feature is enabled.
24 4.7 Ad-hoc and Peer-to-Peer Wireless Networks Ad-hoc net working is used when you want to connect two or more computers togethe r without going thro ugh a rou ter. In ad -hoc mode, you lose a lot of the f eatures tha t come with a route r. T he ma ximum connection speed d rops to 1 1Mbps.
25 Step 5 Set up security: you can on ly choose bet ween no secu rity, W EP or W PA2-Pers on al (W PA2-AE S) security. You can re fer to the in structions in 4.8 Configuring Encr ypt ion . Step 6 Click OK to sa ve the profile. Step 7 Selec t your new profile from the Available Profile(s) box, and click o n Set Default to enable it.
26 4.8 Configuring Encryption This se ction describes th e available encryption types and how to configure t hem. In most cases, encryption type w ill be automatically det ected by the wireless USB adapter; all you need to do is to enter the Network key, as described in Chapter 3 , Step 3.
27 4.8.1 Configuring WE P encryption Select W EP from the Data e ncryption box. Under Netw ork Authentication , se lect either Shared key or Open S y stem , de pending on the rou ter settings. If your W EP key is 5 or 13-digit, alphanume ric : • Check A S CII and enter your W EP key into the box ne xt to Passphrase.
28 4.8.2 Configuring WP A/WPA2-PSK Enc ryption (for home user s) Select WP A -PSK/WPA2-PS K from the Netw ork Authentication box. Under Data encryption select e ither A E S or TKIP depending on the se ttings for your router. Enter the encryption key that the rou ter is u sing into the Ne twork Key , Confirm net w ork key boxes.
29 4.8.3 Configuring WP A/WPA2 Encr yption (for corpora te networks) Select WP A 802.1 x / WPA2 802.1x from the Networ k Authentication bo x and click OK .

34 5. T roubleshoot ing 1. If you cannot open the wireless mo nitor utility, make su re that the USB adapter is inserted f irmly into the USB port. 2. If you cannot connect to the wireless rou ter, you may want to double check the wireless security settings o n the router.

40 6.2 Enable the Wireless USB Adapter This se ction describes h ow to ena ble your wireless US B ada pter before you ca n connect to a wireless network. Step 1 Af ter the computer is re started, insert the W ireless USB Adapter into an available USB port on your compute r.
41 Step 2 Go t o System Preferences > Netw ork . You shou ld see RTL8188S WLAN Adapter in the list, if not, please click “+” to add a new network inte rface.
42 Step 3 Click o n the Interface dro p-down list and select RTL8188S W LAN Adapter and click Cr eate . Click Apply to save the se ttings. Step 4 Click Apply to save the settings.
43 For 10.4/10.5 MAC users: Step 2 Go t o System Preferences > Netw ork , select Ne twork Port Configurations from Show. Step 3 Check the Ethernet Adaptor (W ireless N USB Adap ter) and uncheck AirPort.
44 6.3 Connect to Wireless Network This se ction describes h ow to conn ect your wireless US B ada pter to a wireless network. Step 1 W ireless Network Utility shou ld automatically pop up on your screen after rebooting your com puter; if not, open t he W ireless Monitor ut ility by clicking on its icon in the system tray.
45 Step 2 Click th e Available Ne twork tab, s elect the SSID (Network Nam e) of the wireless net work you wish to conne ct to, and click A dd to Profil e . If the network tha t you are attempt ing to connect does no t have encryption enab led, you will receive a warnin g about connecting to an unse cured network.
