Each expander chip, labeled LSI 28 port 6 GB expander A/B port in F igure 1-8, has its own unique SAS address and conne cts to two inter nal mini-SAS connectors and two e xternal mini-SAS connectors.

16 About Your System Expander Configura tion Mode The C8000XD sled is equi pped with a SAS expander to operate the har d - drives in single port, dual port, or ex pansion mode. Use mini -SAS x4 cable(s) to connect a compute sled to your C8000XD sled. The sled supports the following configuration modes.
About Your System 17 The figure below shows a s ingle path connection from single-HBA/RAID compute sled to two cascaded storage sleds. In this mode, the hard-drives in the two storage sleds are cascaded for extended storage capacity .
18 About Your System •D u a l p o r t m o d e In dual port mode, the storage sled SAS expander board supports 12 x 2.5 or 3.5-inch SAS hard-drives from a dual-cable conn ection. The figure below shows a dual path connection from a dual-HBA compute sled connected to the storage s led’s external mini-SAS A1 and B1 connectors.

26 Installing System Components • Some cables have a conn ector with locking tabs; if you ar e disconnecting this type of ca ble, press in on the locking tabs before you disconnect the cable. As you pull connectors apart, keep them evenly aligned to avoid bending any connector pins.

54 Troubleshooting • If the system does not power on, chec k the LED display . If the power LED is not on, you may not be receiving A C power . Check the AC power cord to make sur e that it is securely connec ted.
Troubleshooting 55 Hard-Drive Not Recognized 1 Open the sled. See "Opening the Sled" on page 28. 2 Check the power an d mini-SAS data cable connection . Ensure that the cables are firmly seated in their co nnectors on the hard-drive backplane and the SAS expander board.
