9 SECTION 3: TRACTOR PREPARATION Connect the Battery Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead c ompounds. Wash hands after ha ndling . The tractor is shi pped with a sealed battery, with the positive battery cabl e factory connected.

11 NOTE: References to LEFT and RIGHT indica te that side of the tractor when facing forward while seated in the drivers seat. Reference to FRONT indicates the grille end of the tractor; to REAR, the drawbar end. Steering Wheel The steering wheel, centered on the dash panel, is used to turn the tractor left or right while drivi ng.
12 NOTE: A record of the actual h ours of operation should be kept to a ssure maintenance procedu res are com- pleted acco rding to the schedule i n this manual. The Indicator Monitor will also remind the operator of maintenance intervals for changing the engine oi l.
13 D . Parking Brake Le ver Figure 4 The parking brake lever is lo cated to the right of the steering w heel in the dash panel. With the brake pedal depressed fully, pu sh the parking brake lever do wnward and release the brake pedal to lock the parking brake.
14 M. Fuel Fill Cap The fuel fill cap is located on th e fender to the left of the seat. N. Cup Holder The cup holder is loca ted on the fender to the left of the seat. O . Hydraulic Lif t Le ver The hydraulic lift lever is located on the fender to th e left of the seat.
15 IMPORTANT: When u sing power take-off operated equipment, best performance is achieved with th e throttle lever in the “FAST” position. V . Choke Le ver The choke lever is lo cated to the left of the steering whee l in the throttle/choke lever pod.
16 contin uously fo r more th an 10 seconds at a tim e. If th e engine does not start within th is time, turn the key to “STOP” and wait a minute to allow the engine’ s starter motor to cool. Try again after waiting. • After the engin e starts, slowly release the brake pedal.
17 Driving On Slopes Refer to the SLOPE GAUGE on page 8 to help determin e slopes where you may not operate safely. WARNING: Do not mow on inclin es with a slope i n excess of 15 degree s (a rise of approximately 2-1/2 feet every 10 fee t). The tractor could overturn and caus e serious injury.
18 Using the REVERSE CA UTION MODE k ey positio n The REVERSE CAUTION MO DE position of the key switch module allows the machine to be operated in reverse with the blades (PTO) engaged. IMPORTANT: Mowing in reverse is not recommended . Use extreme caution while operating the tractor in the “Reverse Caution Mode”.
19 Enga ging Differenti al Lock Fully depress the diff. lock peda l to lock the transmission differential and provide constant pow er to both rear wheels when incre ased traction is needed. Release the diff. lock pedal when extra tractio n is not needed.
20 SECTION 6: ADJUSTMENTS and MAINTENANCE Seat Adjustment WARNING: Do not adjust the seat when the tractor is moving, a s this could cause the oper ator to l ose co ntrol of the tractor. For the comfort of the ope rator, the tractor is equipped with an easy to operate adjustable seat.
21 If great er access is req uired, the tractor is equipp ed with quick relea se side panels. Remove the quick release side panels as follow s (See Figure 16): • Open the ho od by lifting upward at the side panel notche s on each side of the tractor.
22 Tire Inflation Keep the tires inflated to the recommended pressure. Improp er inflation will affect tire life and operator comfort, and also could affect th e level of the mow er deck and quality of cu t. See the tire side wall for prop er inflation range.

25 SECTION 7: SERVICE General Battery Information WARNING • Battery posts, terminals and related accessories conta in lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. • Should batte ry acid acci dentally splatte r into the ey es or onto the skin, rinse the affecte d area immediately with clean cold water.
26 Headlight Bulb Replacement Replac e headli ght bul bs as fo llows: (See Figure 17) 1. After noting wh ich wire connects to each terminal, unplug th e wire harness leads from the headlight socket terminals.
27 Changing T ra nsmission Oil WARNING: The fluid for your transmission has been spe- cially formulated to ensure the safe and proper opera- tion of your tractor. When changing the transmission fluid replace it with Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus ONLY.
28 Electrical Bo x The electrical box contains the relay and fuses. Refer to Figure 19 fo r the electrical box layout. Th e electrical box is located under th e upper air baffle in front of the dash panel.
29 From just above the right axle carrier, inside the right frame rail, slo wly turn the hex nylon lock nut at the end of the brake rod a s follows to a djust the brake (Refer to Figure 23): • Turn the nylon lock nut clockwise to increase the brakin g force.
30 • Pinch in the lock tabs on the oi l drain valve, then pull the d rain port outward to begin dra ining oil. Refer to Figure 24. • After the oi l has finished draini ng, push the end of the oil drain valve back in, unti l the tabs click into place.

33 Cleaning The Engine This tractor has an air-cooled engi ne. Air must be able to circulate free ly around the engine through the fly- wheel screen, through the co oling shrouds and over the fins of the cylinder head an d cylinder block.
34 Figure 26 Refer to Figure 27 for information regarding the prope r type of oil to add to the crankcase. • Place the tracto r on a level surfac e and engage the parking brake. Stop the tractor en gine and remove the ignition key. • Clean the area around th e oil filler cap to prevent debris from entering the crankcase.
35 • Remove the flexible tubi ng from the drain valve. Clean the tubing and store in a safe place for future use. • Clean the drain valve and push th e plastic dust cap onto the valve. • Turn the replacement filter open end up and pour new oil into the filter through the thre aded center hole.
36 WARNING: Ope rating the engine with loose or dam- aged air clean er components will allow unfilt ered air into the carburetor , causin g ex- tensive wear and eventual failure of the engine. Servicing The Precleaner Wash and re-oil the fo am precleaner more often under ex tremely dusty or dirty conditions.
