3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PR ACTICES General Ope ration 1. Read this operator ’ s m anual car efully i n its entir ety before at temptin g to assem ble this machine. R ead, unders tand, and foll ow all instr uctions on the machine and in th e manual( s) before ope ration.

5 10. Never over fill fuel tank. Fill ta nk to no more th an ½ inch below bottom of filler neck to pr ovide sp ace for fuel expan sion. 11. Replace gasoline c ap and tighten securely. 12. If gaso line is sp illed, wip e it off the eng ine and equipm ent.

7 SECTION 3: ASSEMBLING YOUR LAWN MOWER Removing Unit From Carton • Remove s taples, break glue on top flap s, or cut tape at cart on end and pe el along top fl ap to open carton. • Remove loo se parts, if in clude d with unit (i.e., grass bag e tc.
8 • Fasten the c able to the lowe r handle with the two cable ties found on the low er hand le. Pull the c able ties tight an d trim off the ex cess.
9 SECTION 4: KNOW YOUR LAWN MOWER Read this ope rator ’ s man ual and safety rules before operatin g yo ur lawn m ower. Compare the il lustrati on in Fig ure 10 w ith you r lawn mower t o fami liariz e your self with the lo cation of variou s controls and adjustme nts.
10 SECTION 5: OPERATING YOUR LA WN MOWER NOTE: For shipping pur poses you r mower is se t with the wheels in a low cutting heigh t position. For best results , raise th e cuttin g posit ion unti l it is deter mined whic h hei ght is best fo r your lawn.
11 • Push p rimer once. Do not pr ime to restart a warm engin e after a short sh utdown. • Standin g behind the mower, depre ss the blade control handle and hol d it agai nst the upper hand le. • Electr ic Start : Tu rn the ignit ion key to the right to start the en gine.
12 • Press out on the legs of the lower han dle and remove lower handle fro m the mower. • Turn lower han dle aroun d so the notch on the bottom of the lower hand le is facing for ward. 13 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWER Cleaning M ower The unders ide of the mower deck shou ld be clean ed after each use to preve nt any bui ld-up of de bris. If allowed to ac cumulat e, it will cau se rust and corrosion. NOTE: We do n ot recom mend t he use of pressu re washers o r ga rden ho se to clean your u nit.
14 SECTION 8: SERVICING THE MOWER Blade Care Periodic ally ins pect the blad e adapter for cr acks, especia lly i f you strike a fore ign o bject . Repl ace when necessar y. Removing the Blade • Discon nect spar k plug wire fr om spark plug . • Turn mower on its side making sure that the air filter and the ca rburetor are up .
15 • Remove the hex bolt from the r ear of unit ho lding the tran smiss ion to t he mo wer hous ing. See Figu re 18. Fig ure 1 8 • Tilt the transmis sion for ward and loo sen the id ler pulley bo lt and loc k nut half a turn.

27 Fuel And Oil Recommend ations Fuel Use only clean , fresh, unlead ed regular grade gasolin e. Octane Ratin g The octan e rating of a gas oline is a measure of its resis tance to "knock ing".Use a mi nimum o f 87 o ctane of the a ntiknock index is rec ommen ded.
28 • Remove the oil gauge to ch eck the oil level. Level should be be tween "A DD" and "FU LL" marks. Do not o verfill. • Install and ti ghten the oil gauge. Engine Oil Capacity , 0.65 L (0.69 us.qt) CAUTION: The engine is shipped without engine oil.

31 CAUTION: Do not oil foam element. Paper Elem ent • Clean the pa per elemen t ever y 100 hours. • Clean t he eleme nt by t apping gently to rem ove dust. If very dir ty, replace the elemen t with a new one. • Replace with a new paper -element yearly or 300 hours.
32 • Remove the spark plug and pour appro x. 1-2 mL (0.06-0. 1 cu.in) of new engine oil through the pl ug hole (A), slowly pu ll the rec oil sta rter gri p seve ral times and r einstall the spark plu g.
