2 1 About this Guide This guide will help you install the Cisco 526 S eri es Wireless Express Mobili ty Controller (hereafter referred to as the WLC526 or the controller ) in your Smart Business Communication System network.
3 Wa rn i n g There is the danger of explosion if the battery is rep laced incorrectly . Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer . Dispose of used batteries accord ing to the manufacturer’ s instructions.

6 Package Contents Each WLC526 controller packa ge contains the following items: • One Cisco 526 wireless LAN controller • One power cord • One Ethernet cable (RJ45 to RJ45) • One Console cable (RJ45 to DB9) • This guide • Cisco pr oduct re gis tration card Figure 2 shows the front pa nel of th e WLC526 and identi fi es its components.
7 Choosing a Physical Location Y ou can install the controller on a horizontal or vert ical surface. Th e controlle r’ s bottom plate has two keyhole slots that permit you to mo unt it on a vertical surface, such as a w all.
8 T able 1 Start up Wizar d Inf or mation Wizard Setting Action System Name The name you want to assign to the controller . Y ou can enter up to 32 ASCI I characters. Administrative user name and password The ad ministrative username and passwo rd to be assigned to this controller .
9 Configured Country Code The country for which the controller is configured. This setting is not changeable in the startup wizard. Regulatory Domain The domain in which the controller is to be operated. Selection is made using the appropriate domain checkbox.
10 WLAN SSID The network name, or service set identifier (SSID) . This is the default SSID that the access points use when they join a controller . RADIUS Server IP Address The IP addr ess of the RADIUS server if one is available and you intend to use it.
11 T o use the control ler’ s startup wizard, yo u will need an Ethernet-capable PC running Windows XP and an Ethernet cable. The contr oller’ s default IP addres s is 192.168.1.1. Make sure your PC is configured to receive an IP address automa tically .
12 Step 9 Confirm your password in the Confirm Password field. Step 10 Click Next . The Management Inte rface Configura tion screen appears (S ee Figure 4 ). 14 Step 15 Optional, choose the L W APP T ransport Mode (Layer 3 default). Step 16 Enter the RF mobility domain name. Step 17 Check your country code. Step 18 Click Next and the AP Manager Interface C onfiguration screen appears (see Figure 6).

18 6 Mounting the WLC526 Controller The WLC526 controller can be mounted as follows: • On a horizontal or vertical surface such as a de sktop or shelf.

20 Caution When vertically mounting your controller , you mu st mount the controller with its front panel facing down (towards the floor) unl ess you are using a security lock cable. If you are using a security lock cable, you ca n mount the front panel fa cing up (towards the ceiling) or facing down.
21 7 In Case of Difficulty Checking the Controller LEDs If your controller is not worki ng properly , check the LEDs on the front panel of the unit. Y ou can use the LED indications to quickly assess the unit’ s status.
22 Using the Reset Button The Reset button on the controller’ s front panel becomes active after the controller boots. Y ou can use the Reset button to reset power or to reset the configuration to factory defaults.
23 Step 3 When the Alarm LED turns green, release the Reset button by removing the pa per clip. Step 4 The controller power cyc les and reboots. The co ntroller configuration setting s are reset to factory defaults and the startup wizard GUI appears.
