3 2 Prepare for Installation This section contains information about the tools and parts, wa rnings, site preparation information, and other information for the rack-mount installation and equipment shelf or tableto p installation. War n in g Only trained and qualified p ersonnel should instal l, replace, or service this equipment.
4 Prepare for Rack-Mount Installation Before you begin the rack-mounting tasks: • Decide whether or not you want to rear -mount the chassis from the front or the rear . • Decide whether or not you want to attach ca ble-management brackets to your chassis.
5 Attach the Rack-Mount Bracke ts—Chassis Rear-Mounted T o install the rack-mount brackets on a Cisco ASR 1002 Rout er in a rear rack-mount configu ration, follow these steps: Step 1 Locate the threaded ear holes in the rear sides of the chassis.
6 Figure 3 shows the Cisco ASR 1 002 Router in a four -post rack. 7 Step 8 Insert the bottom screw fir st and then the second screw at the top of the chassis, diagon ally from the bottom screw . This helps secure the chassis in place while you in sert the other screws.
8 Figure 4 shows the Cisco ASR 1002 Router in a two-post rack . Figur e 4 Installing a Cisco ASR 1 0 02 Router in a T wo- P ost Rack T o install the Cisco ASR 1002 Router in a two- post equipment rack, perform the following steps: Step 1 Pos ition the chassis such that the front is closest to you an d lift it carefully into the rack.
9 Attach a Cable-Management Bracket The cable-management bracket should be m ounted to each rack-moun t bracket on the chassis to provide cable-management to both sides of the chassis. These brackets are mounted to the rack-mount brackets usin g screws to allow ea sy installation and removal of cables.
10 This completes the procedure for inst alling the cable-management bracket s on a Cisco ASR 1002 Router for a chassis rack-mount configuration . Chassis Ground Con nection Installation Connecting th.
11 Step 2 Insert the A WG #6 wire into the wire receptacle in the groundin g lug. Step 3 Use the manufacturer’ s recommended crimping tool to carefully crimp the wire recept acle around the wire. This step is required to ensure a proper mechanical connection.
12 Step 6 Insert the two screws through the holes in the groundi ng lug. Step 7 Use the Number 2 Phillips screwdriver to carefully ti ghten th e screws until the grounding lug is held firmly to the chassis.
13 Step 2 Connect to the port using the RJ-45-to-DB-9 cable. Step 3 After you establish normal router operat ion, you can disconnect th e terminal. Note For information about console port and auxiliar.

17 Connecting AC Power to t he Cisco ASR 1002 Router Step 1 Insert an AC power supply in po wer supply Slot 0 or power supply Slot 1 until it is full seated. Step 2 T ighten the captive installation screws. Step 3 At the rear of the router , check that the power switch is in the Off (O) position.

However , if you do attach the AC power cable to a power supply tab and th en you remo ve the AC power cable for some reason, check for any damage to the cable after you cut the tie wrap off.

22 Connecting +24V DC Power to the Cisco ASR 1002 Router The +24V DC power supply uses a spring-l oaded terminal block. The input terminal block requires 8 A WG multi-strand wiring to support input current. Features are provide for strai n relieving the input wires from the terminal block on the front panel.
23 T o connect +24V DC power supply in the Cisco ASR 1 002 Router , follow these steps: Step 1 At the rear of the router , check tha t the po wer Standby switch is in the Standby position. Step 2 Ensure that the positive and negative leads are discon nected from the site power source an d the source circuit breaker is turned off.
24 Step 6 With the screwdriver still inserted , gently push the lead wire (ground lead first) in until it is fully inserted as shown in Figure 22 . Caution Check that there is no copper portion of the lead wire exposed. Y ou only want the wire insulation visible.
25 Step 7 After the lead wire is fully inserted, hold the lead wire in pl ace by pressing inward while you remove the screwdriver to release the spring to tension down on the installed lead wire. Step 8 Once the screwdriver is complete ly removed, gently pull on the lead wire to make certain that the lead wire is securely installed.

42 Removing the –48V DC Power Supply Before you can remove a –48V DC power supply from the Cisco AS R 1002 Router , you must remove power from the power supply . Caution Make certain that the chassis ground is connected before you begin removing and installing the power supply .
