5 E ■ Carrying the Printer Pull out the handle as shown in the illustration. ■ Opening and Closing the Cassette Cover Press the cassette cov er release to open the co ver . To close the cassette cover Press down on the cassette cov er until you hear it click securely closed.
E 6 ■ Replacing the Cassette Cover and Positioning Guide Should the cassette cover or positioning guide become detached from the printer , replace it as shown in the illustrations below . T ake care to a void apply- ing excessiv e f orce to the hinges on the cassette cover and tabs on the guide .
7 E Po wer Requirements Y ou can run the printer by using its b undled AC adaptor to plug it into a po wer outlet. It can also run on commercially availab le alkaline batter ies. • F or inf or mation about loading alkaline batteries, see page 57 of the User’ s Guide.
E 8 Initializing Printer Memory Y ou should initializ e the memory of the printer before using it for the first time , after you ha ve not used it f or a long time , or if it f ails to operate normally when y ou turn power on. Important! Initializing printer memor y clears its memory of all input data.
9 E Po wering Up and Selecting a Printing Mode Tu r ning the printer on and off is as simple as pressing a button. After the printer powers up , you will need to select the type of operation you w ant to perform. Select the DISC mode to print on a disc.
E 10 Mode Selection Basics The illustration below shows the basic flow for mode selection after turning on the printer. See the User’s Guide f or details on how to use each mode. Note • The illustration below sho ws operation for the DISC mode only .
11 E Loading and Remo ving an Ink Ribbon Cassette An ink ribbon cassette is required when printing disc labels. Y ou should use only the special ink r ibbon cassettes that are specified for this printer. If you plan to print a tape label f or a disc case , you need to load a tape car tridge.
E 12 7. Close the cassette cov er. • Press down on the cassette co ver until y ou hear it click securely into place. To remove the ink ribbon cassette 1. Press to turn off the pr inter . 2. Press the cassette cov er release and open the cover . 3. Grasping both sides of the adaptor , lift it straight up .
13 E Loading and Removing a T ape Cartridg e A tape car tridge is required when printing tape labels. Y ou should use only the special tape car tridges that are specified for this printer . To load a tape car tridge 1. Press to turn off the printer. 2.
E 14 8. Load the tape cartr idge into the printer . • Make sure that the tape and ink ribbon pass betw een the print head the rub ber roller as sho wn in the illustration below . T ake care that the ink rib bon does not snag on the protrusion near the print head.

E 16 Display Symbols and Indicator s Before actually using the printer , you should first tak e some time to become acquainted with the symbols and indicators used on the label printer display . Note that display contents are diff erent in the DISC mode and in the T APE mode, but some indicators are common to both modes .

19 E 1. Press to turn on the pr inter . • A LAST D A T A icon will also appear on the Main Menu if there is input data left ov er from the last time you used the printer. See page 10 for more information. 2. Use and to select DISC , and then press SET .

Press PREVIEW . • This will cause an image of the disc label la yout to scroll on the displa y . • If the disc label layout has text in both the upper print area (AREA A) and the lower print area (AREA B), a print area selection screen will appear here.
21 E Important! • Handle the disc gently when sliding it into place. Rough handling can damage the disc or the positioning guide. • Check to mak e sure that there is no dirt, dust, or other foreign matter on the disc. Dir t or dust can scratch the recording surface of the disc and make it impossib le to record data onto it.
E 22 ■ To create a disc label for the upper and lo wer print areas 1. In step 4 of the procedure under “T o create a label for the upper print area of a disc” on page 19, select the icon that sho ws both AREA A and AREA B, and then input text into both areas.
23 E T APE Mode This section describes the general steps you need to perf or m to use the T APE Mode to print on label tape. T ape Label Printing General Procedure Connect the AC adaptor (P age 7). Or load batteries into the printer (Page 57 of the User’ s Guide).
