Step 3 — Locate Unit — The following guidelines should be considered when choosing a location for a WSHP: • Units are for indoor use only . • Locate in areas where ambient temperatures are betwe en 39 F and 102 F and relative humidity is no greater than 75%.
Preparation — The unit should be on the ground in a well lit area. Hung units should be take n down to ground level before converting. Side to Back Discharge Conversion 1. Remove screws to free the top and discharge panels. Set screws aside for later use.
VE R T IC AL UN IT S ( 50P SV , P S D ) — Each unit uses a con- densate hose inside all cabinets as a trapping loop, therefore an external trap is not necessary . See Fig. 12. Each unit must be installed with its own individual vent and means to flush or blow out the condensate drain line.
Table 2 — Water Quality Guideline s LEGEND *Heat exchanger mate rials consi dered are co pper , cupr onickel, 304 SS (stainless ste el), 316 SS , titanium. †Closed reci rculating syst em is identifi ed by a closed pressur ized piping system. **Recircul ating open wells should ob serve the open reci rculating desig n consideratio ns.
In all applications, the quality of the water circulated through the heat exchanger must fall within the ranges listed in the W ater Quality Guidelines table. Consult a local water firm , independent testing facility , or local water authority for specific recommendations to maintain water quality within the pub- lished limits.
Optional pressure-rated hose assemblies designed specifi- cally for use with Carrier units are available. Similar hoses can be obtained from alternate supp liers. Supply and return hoses are fitted with swivel-joint fittings at one end to prevent kink- ing during installation.

PRE-ST A R T -UP System Chec kout — When the installation is complete, follow the system checkout procedure outlined below before starting up the system. Be sure: 1. V oltage is within the utilizati on range specifications of the unit compressor and fan moto r and voltage is balanced for 3-phase units.
Heating/Cooling Thermostat T ype — Switch 3 provides se- lection of thermostat type. Heat pump or heat/cool thermostats can be selected. Select OFF for heat/cool thermostats. When in heat/cool mode, Y1 is used for cooling stage 1, Y2 is used for cooling stage 2, W1 is used for heating stage 1 and O/W2 is used for heating stage 2.
HWR APPLICA TION CONSIDERA TIONS — Unlike most hot gas reh eat options, the HWR opt ion will operate over a wide range of entering-water temperatures (EWT s). Special flow regulation (wat er regulating valve) is no t required for low EWT conditions.
Deluxe D Contr ol Accessory Relay Configura- tions — The following accessory relay settings are applica- ble for Deluxe D control: CYCLE WITH F AN — In this configuration, the accessory relay 1 will be ON any time the Fan Enable relay is on.
4. Check the temperature of both supply and discharge water . Compare to T ables 20-30. If temperature is within range, proceed. If temperature is outside the range, check the cooling refrigerant pressures in T ables 20-30. 5. Check air temperature drop across the coil when com- pressor is operating.

Calculate the total volume of fluid in the piping system. See T able 32. Use the percentage by volume in T able 33 to deter- mine the amount of antifreeze to use. Antifreeze concentration should be checked from a well- mixed sample using a hydrom- eter to measure specific gravity .
application, all compressor relays and related functions will operate per their associated DIP switch 2 setting on S1. HE A TI NG ST A GE 3 — In Heating Stage 3 mode, the Fan Enable, Fan Speed and Compressor relays remain on. The EH1 output is turned on immediately .
NOTE: Scheduling can either be controlled via the unit or the BAS, but not both. INDOOR FAN — Th e i ndoor fan will operate in any one of three modes depending on the user configuration selected. Fan mode can be selected as Auto, Continuous, or Always On.
speed. Should this be insuffic ient, and the SA T rises further reaching the maximum heating SA T limit, the fan will be indexed to the maximum speed. If the SA T still continues to rise 5 F above the maximum limit, all heating stages will be disabled.
screen. The following conditions must be true for economizer operation: • SA T reading is available. • L WT reading is available. • If oc cupied, the SP T is greater than the occupied cooling set point or le ss than the o ccupied heating set point and the condenser water is suitable.

SER VICE Perform the procedures ou tlined below periodically , as indicated. Filter s — Filters must be clean for maximum performance. Inspect filters every month under normal operating conditions. Replace when necessary . W ater Coil — Keep all air out of the water coil.
Checkin g System Char ge — Units are shipped with full operating charge. If rechar ging is necessary: 1. Insert thermometer bulb in insulating rubber sleeve on liquid line near filter drier . Use a digital thermometer for all temperature measurements.
WSHP Open Contr oller — W ith the WSHP Open con- troller option, the 100 most recent alarms can be viewed using the BAC view 6 alarm status and alarm history . T o view the alarms: 1. Navigate to the Alarm S tatus screen from the Home screen using the arrow softkeys.
The bulb must be secured to the pipe using a copper strap. The use of heat transfer paste between the bulb and the pipe will also help ensure optimum performance. The bulb must also be properly insulated to eliminate any influence on valve operation by the surrounding conditions.
See T ables 37-39 for additional troubleshooting information. Table 37 — ECM Tro ubleshooting IMPOR T ANT : Always recover the refrigerant from the system with suitable approved tools, recovery equipment, and practices prior to attempting to remove or repair any TXV .
