20 Preparations This chapter describes ba sic oper ations, such as navigating the menus, and first time settings to help you learn more about your camcorder . Charging the Battery Pack The camcorder can be powered with a battery pack or directly using the compact power adapter .
21 1 Slide in the direction of the a rrow and hold it pressed down. 2 Slide the battery pack down and then pull it out. IMPORT ANT • T urn off the camcorder before connecting or disconnecting the compact power adapter . After pressing to turn off the camcorder , important data is updated in the memory .
Preparations 22 Preparing the Wireless Contr oller and Accessories First, insert the supplied lithium button battery CR2025 into the wireless controller . 1 Press the tab in the dir ection of the arrow and pull out the battery holder . 2 Place the lithium button battery with the + side facing up.
23 Accessories Fasten the grip belt. • Adjust the grip belt so that you can reach the zoom lever with your index finger , and the button with your thumb. • Y ou can r e move the grip belt and replace it with the supplied wrist strap. 1 Lift the padded handgrip's flap and detach the stra p from the Velcro pad.
Preparations 24 Pass the ends of the s houlder strap through the strap mount on the grip belt and adjust the length of the strap. Y ou can also remove the grip belt and attach the shoulder strap dir ectly to the rear brac ket on the camcor der . 1 Pass the end of the strap through the rear bracket on the camcorder.
25 NOTES About the LCD screen: The screen is produced using extremely high-pr ecision manufacturing techniques, with more than 99.99% of the pixels operating to specification. Less than 0.01% of the pixels may occasionally misfire or appear as black, red, blue or green dots.
Preparations 26 Press the button again to r e turn to the flexible recording mode (the button's light is off). Y ou can access the menus and change settings to your prefer ence. Even in flexible r ecor ding mode, the camcorder can help you with the settings.
27 Joystick and Joystick Guide Use the joystick to oper ate the camcor der's menus. The joystick can als o be used in combination with the joystick guide to operate additional functions. Pr ess to display/hide the jo ystick guide. The functions that appear on the joystick guide will ch ange depending on the operating mode.

45 Cinema Mode: Giving a Cinematic Look to your Recordings Give your recordings a cinematic look by using the [ CINE MODE] recor ding program. Combine this recor ding program with the 24 fps progr essive frame rate [ PF24] to get the enhanced effect of the 24p Cinema Mode.
Video 46 NOTES • [ NIGHT] - Moving subjects may leave a trailing afterimage. - Picture quality may not be as good as in other modes. - White points may appear on the screen. - Autofocu s may not work as well as in other modes. In such case, adjust the focus manually .
47 Changing the Shutter Speed an d Aperture Use the automatic exposure (AE) program to use functions like the white balance or image effects, or give priority to the exposure value or the shutter speed. Use faster shutter speeds to record subjects movi ng quickly; Use slo wer shutter speeds to add motion blur , emphasizing the f eel of movement.

Photos 66 Flash Y ou can use the flash to recor d still images in dark places. The f l ash features the r ed-eye reduction function. Photos 72 Printing Photos (Direct Print) The camcorder can be c onnected to any PictBridge-compatible printer . Y ou can mark in advance the still images you want to print and set the desired number of copies as a print order ( 76). Canon printers: SELPHY printers of the CP , DS and ES se ries and PIXMA printers marked with the PictBridge logo.
73 Printing with the (Print/Share) Button Y ou can print a still image without changing the settings simply by pressing . 1 Select ( ) the still image yo u wish to print. 2 Press . • Printing starts. The button flashes and stays on when the printing is completed.

79 Connection Diagrams Connections that can be used to connect the camcorder to a TV are listed in falling order of pictur e quality . Co nnections that require cables or accessories not supplied with the camcorder are marked with an as terisk; prepare the necessary equipment in advance.

Additional Information 94 [WIND SCREEN]: The camcorder automatically reduces the backgr ound sound of wind when recor ding outdoors. • Some low-frequency sounds will be suppressed along with the sound of wind.

Additional Information 96 [DEMO MODE]: The demons tration mode displays the camcor der's main features. It starts automatically when the camcorder is powered with the compact power adapter if you leave it tur ned on for more than 5 minutes. • T o cancel the demo mode once it has started, press any button or turn off the camcorder .
97 [BEEP]: A beep will accompany some operations like turning on the camcorder , the self- timer countdown, etc. [POWER SA VE]: In order to save power when the camcor der is powered by a battery pack, it will automati cally shut off if left without any operation for 5 m inutes.
