Check each item against the list below to make sure th at you have everything . If any item is missing or damaged, contact the st ore where you purchased the printer .
Setting Up the Printer 4 1-4 2 Select a Location for the Printer Select a safe, convenient location for the printer and set it up correctly . Space Requirements Make sure that there is suf ficient space around printer at the location you select for the printer .
2 Select a Location for the Printer 5 1-5 Important Remove the Packing Material and Position the Printer T ape, spacers, and other packing material are attached to the printer to protect it during shipping. All of this packing material must be removed before you use the pri nter .

2 Select a Location for the Printer 7 1-7 5 T o remove the feed roller stopper , remove the tape (a), lift the stopper up (b), slide it down and to the side (c ), then remove it (d). 6 Attach the front up per cover an d back upper cover . 7 Remove all of the tape from the paper cassette.
Setting Up the Printer 8 1-8 Caution 8 Open the cassette cover and remove the tray inside the cassette. 9 Grip the printer firmly by the lift handles pr ovided on the left and right sides of the printer and move it to where you want to set it up.
2 Select a Location for the Printer 9 1-9 z The Model N2000 weighs 16 kg (35 lb .) T o avoid back strain or other personal injuries, at least two people, lifting together at the front and back of the printer , are requ ired to move the printer .
Setting Up the Printer 10 1-10 Important Note 3 Connect the Computer The standard model of the printer is equipped with a parallel port and a USB port. Depending on where you purchased the print er , a LAN port is also available as an option. Each connection method is descri bed in this section.
3 Connect the Computer 11 1-11 Important Note 2 Connect th e other end of the printer cabl e to the parallel por t of the computer . Secure the connection with the screws attached to the head of the printer ca ble. USB Connection 1 Plug the B connector ( a ngular) of the USB ca ble into the USB port on the back of the printer .
Setting Up the Printer 12 1-12 Note Network Connection The computer can be connected via its LAN port to a network using 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX protocols.
3 Connect the Computer 13 1-13 3 Connect th e other end of the LAN cable to a sta ndard port on the HUB. Press in until you hear a click. 4 Connect the power cord ( Æ P . 1-14), press the Power button on the printer operatio n panel to switch the printer on, then visually check the lamps on the n etwork inte rface bo ard.
Setting Up the Printer 14 1-14 4 Connect the Powe r Cord After positioning the printer and con necting the printer and com puter , follow this procedure to connect the power cord. 1 Connect the power cord provided with th e printer to the power connector on the left side of the printer .
5 Install the Printhead 15 1-15 5 Install the Printhead The printhead is instal led with the print er switched on. Read th e messages in the printer disp lay as you follow the procedure below . 1 Press the Power button to switch the printer on. After a few seconds “Install P .

5 Install the Printhead 17 1-17 Important 7 Hold the new printh ead by the grips (a) on b o th sides, remove it from its package, and remove the pr otective cap and packing material. z When handling the printhead, always hold it by the grips (a) on the left and right sides of the printh ead.

6 Install the Ink T anks 19 1-19 Important 6 Install the Ink T anks After installing the printhead, install the fo ur ink tanks: Y (Yellow) M (Magenta) C (Cyan) Bk (Black) z Before you use the printer the first time, you must install the ink tanks immediately after installin g the printhead.

6 Install the Ink T anks 21 1-21 Important 4 With the ink ports pointing down and the label fa cing in the direction shown in the illustration below , insert the ink tank into the holder . z Always match the color of the in k with the correct holder b efore inserting it.

After successful installation of the printhead and the ink tanks, “Ink Filling…” is displayed on the op eration panel and the ink automatically starts flowing.
7 Selecting the Display Language 23 1-23 Note 7 Selecting the Display Language The display language is set for English before the print er is shipped. Follow the procedure below to select another lan guage. z If you want to continue with the English display , go to “8 Load the Paper Cassette”.

8 Load the Paper Cassette 25 1-25 Note Note 8 Load the Paper Cassette Loading the paper cassette requires two procedures: • Loading the paper or other print media in the cassette. • Selecting the media size and type with the operation panel. Loading the Media Follow the procedure below to load the paper casse tte provided with the printer .
Setting Up the Printer 26 1-26 2 Pinch the lever on the cassette length guide so it mo ves freely and move the guide to the holes for the size o f the paper . Marks for standard paper sizes are provided on t he length guide. Mo ve the guide to the desired m ark.
8 Load the Paper Cassette 27 1-27 Important 4 Pick up a stack of paper and fan it to remove static cling. T ap the edges of the stack against a flat surface to align the edges. 5 With the print side (b) facin g down, load the stac k (c) in the cassette with the length guide against the bottom of the sta c k.
Setting Up the Printer 28 1-28 Important z T o avoid paper jams, make sure that the trailing edge is aligned square with the length guide, and make sure that the edges at (d) are st raight and not slanted. z W ait for all of the paper in the cassette to be used up before loading more paper .
8 Load the Paper Cassette 29 1-29 Important 8 Set the paper cassette in the printer . Push the paper cassette completely into the prin ter . z Y ou must set the slide lever to the center position to enable paper feed from the cassette.
Setting Up the Printer 30 1-30 Important Note Paper Size and Media T ype Settings After loading paper or other print media in the paper casset te, you must use the operation panel menus to select the type and size of the paper or other print media loaded in the cassette.
8 Load the Paper Cassette 31 1-31 1 Press the Online button to s witch off the Online lamp. The printer is set offline. 2 Press the Set Media button. The Set Media menu opens. 3 Press or to select the cassett e and press . Select the setting for the loaded cassette: Cassette 1, Cassette 2, or Cassette 3.

9 Select the Interface 33 1-33 Note 9 Select the Interface If the printer is connected to the compute r through the USB or parallel port, you must use the printer operation panel to select the appropriate interface setting. If the correct interface setting is not selected, the printer will not be able to communicate with the computer .

If the printe r information is not displayed correct ly in the printer driver or in NetSpot Job Moni tor , you can use the Port Setting T o ol to change the printer port sele ction.

Setting Up the Printer 40 1-40 Note Installing the Printer Driver The printer drivers are stored on the provided software CD-ROM. Install the appropriate printer driver for your operating system.
10 Install the Software 41 1-41 Note 3 If the Add New Hardware Wiza rd opens, click the Cancel butto n to close it. 4 Mount the provided software CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. First, the language selection screen opens. Select the appropriate language. The Setup Menu window opens.

10 Install the Software 53 1-53 Note Note Installing NetSpot NetSpot utilit y software is used by bot h system admini strators and users. Perform the NetSpot installatio n from the Setup Menu of the provided software CD-ROM. The procedure below uses the W indows 98 installation as an example.
Setting Up the Printer 54 1-54 4 Click “Install NetSpot”. 5 Follow the instructions on screen. 6 When the type selectio n screen opens, click the button for “System Administra tor V ersion” or “E nd User V ersion” for how the compu ter is to be used, then click the Next button.
10 Install the Software 55 1-55 8 When the installation is completed, cl ick the Finish button. Re-start the computer . After the comput er is re-started , the NetSpot instal lation is completed.
Setting Up the Printer 56 1-56 Note Printhead Correction Settings After the software has been installed, use th e printer driver to perform the original correction settings for the installed printhead. Perform this procedure for all computers where the printer driver has been installed.

Installing Options 8 2-8 Note 3 While pressing on the lever , remove the connector cover . z Save the connector cover after removal. Y ou will need to re-attach it if the printer is disconnected from the network or when the printer is moved. 4 Remove the network interface boar d from its bag.
Installing the Network Interface Board 9 2-9 6 Connect the LAN cable to th e LAN board. Press it in until you hear it click and lock. 7 Connect th e other end of the LAN cable to the x por t (normal po rt). Press it in until you hear it click and lock.
Installing Options 10 2-10 If 10BASE-T is in use, LNK lamp (b) should light. If 100BASE-TX is in use, LNK lamp (b) and the 100 lamp (a) should lig ht. If the LNK lamp does not light or if it is flashing, check the following: • Is the HUB switch ed on? Æ If the H UB is switched o f f, switch it on.

After processing, the printer switches off. 8 After the printer switches of f, disconnect the power cord and the interface cables.
