2 T urning the Printer On/Off Tu r ning the pr inter’ s po wer on and off is perf ormed with the power s witch on the right side of the pr inter . Please learn the correct procedures to av oid any une xpected trouble . T urning On the Printer To use the pr inter , tur n it on by pressing the po wer s witch to the “I” position.
3 If no errors ar e found, the オンライン indicator , 印刷可 indicator and the selected paper feed indicator light up, and the message <00 インサツ カノウ > or <00 LIPS> appears on the display when the printer is ready to print.
4 If the Printer is Not Using a Hard Disk If the hard disk has not been installed in the printer , turn off the power as described in the f ollowing procedure . 1 Make sure that the ジ ジ ジ ジ ョ ョ ョ ョ ブ ブ ブ ブ indicator is off. 2 Press the power s witch to the “ ○ ○ ○ ○ ” position.
5 1 Make sure that the ジ ジ ジ ジ ョ ョ ョ ョ ブ ブ ブ ブ indicator and HDD indicator are off. 2 Press [ オ オ オ オ ン ン ン ン ラ ラ ラ ラ イ イ イ イ ン ン ン ン ]. The オンライン indicator is turned off and the printer gets ready for operation using the control panel.

7 About Online and Offline When the printer can receiv e data from a personal computer and is ab le to print the data, this is called “online”, and when the printer cannot receiv e data, this is called “offline. ” The printer should be offline when you perf or m operations from the men u on the control panel.
8 Offline The printer must be offline when y ou use the men u on the control panel of the printer , to select the paper f eeding method, or set the paper siz e. T o perf orm any operations from the control panel, tak e the printer offline as described in the f ollowing procedure .
9 Paper Requirements Use only compatible paper in order to get the best perf or mance from your printer . Using incompatible paper can lead to reduced printing quality and paper jams. Printable Paper The printer can use the follo wing types of paper .

12 ■ Thick paper Y ou can use A3-, B4-, A4-, B5-, A5-, Ledger-, Legal-, Letter- and Executiv e-size thic k paper of 76.2 - 312.0 mm width, 98.0 - 469.9 mm length and 106 – 135 g/m 2 weight with this printer . Thic k paper can be f ed from the paper tra y .
13 ■ En velopes Y ou can use Y ouk ei No .4 and Kakukei No .2 envelopes of the siz e shown belo w with this printer . IMPOR T ANT • Ne ver use the f ollowing types of en v elope. If env elopes that do not conf or m to specifications are used, this ma y cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction.
14 Printable Area The areas that can be printed on the paper are sho wn below . ■ Plain paper/thick paper/transparencies/label sheets/postcar ds Data cannot be printed inside a 5mm wide border around the paper or postcard. ■ En velopes Data cannot be printed inside a 10mm wide border around the env elope.
15 Paper Y ou Cannot Use To av oid problems such as paper jams and printer malfunctions, the f ollowing types of paper should ne ver be used. IMPOR T ANT • P aper that tends to cause paper jams . -P aper that is too thic k or too thin. -P aper that is irregular shaped.
16 Printing from the Paper Cassette Procedures f or loading paper into paper cassette 1, which is supplied with the printer , and paper cassettes 2, 3, and 4, in the optional paper f eeder unit, are the same. Y ou can load different paper siz es into each cassette and switch betw een these paper cassettes f or paper sources automatically .
17 Loading Standard-Size Paper To load A3-, B4-, A4-, A5-, Ledger-, Legal-, Letter- and Ex ecutive-siz e paper in the paper cassette, f ollo w the procedure described below . 1 If y ou were using the paper tray , remo ve any paper remaining in the tray and c lose it.
18 2 Make sure that the ジ ジ ジ ジ ョ ョ ョ ョ ブ ブ ブ ブ indicator and HDD indicator are off before y ou remove the cassette in which y ou want to load paper . Grasp the pocket on the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it clicks.
19 3 Set the ST AND ARD / CUST OM switch to “ST AND ARD . ” IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to set the ST ANDARD / CUST OM s witch to “ST AND ARD” when you use standard-siz e paper . 4 Grasp the lock le ver of the rear paper size guide and slide it to the mark indicating the desired paper size .
20 5 Grasp the lock le ver of the left paper size guide and slide it to the mark indicating the desired paper size . The paper guides on both sides move together . 6 T ap the stack of paper on a flat surface to pr operly align the edges. IMPOR T ANT • If you are using paper that has been cut badly , sheets ma y o verlap when deliv ered.
21 7 Set the paper flush against the rear paper size guide and then load it into the cassette. NO TE • To print on letterhead paper or paper with a logo on it, f ollow the instructions below to load the paper in the proper direction.
22 8 Press down on the stac k of paper as illustrated below and make sure that it does not exceed the limit mark. Then set the stack of paper under the hooks of the paper guides. IMPOR T ANT • Y ou can load up to 500 sheets of plain paper (64 g/m 2 ) in the paper cassette .
23 9 Insert the paper cassette into the printer . Hold the paper cassette securely and push it into the printer until its fr ont side is flush with the front surface of the printer . If the power is on when you load the paper cassette, you will hear printer operation sounds.
24 10 Insert the paper siz e displa y board that matc hes the loaded paper size into the slot on the front-left side of the paper cassette..
25 Printing from the Paper T ray Loading Paper (other than postcards and envelopes) To load plain paper , thick paper or label sheets into the paper tra y , f ollow the procedure described below . IMPOR T ANT • Data cannot be printed in a 5 mm wide border around the paper .
26 2 T ap the stac k of paper on a flat surface to pr operly align the edges. IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to load a stac k of transparencies or labels after thoroughly f anning them. Otherwise, the y ma y o verlap when the y are f ed into the printer , causing paper jams.
27 • If the rear edge of paper is not properly aligned, this ma y cause a paper f eed f ailure and paper jams . • If A4- or Letter-siz e paper is loaded in the portrait orientation when [ト レ イ 用紙サイズ ] is set to [フ リ ー ] , make sure to set [用 紙 の 向き ] to [タ テ オ クリ ] .
28 4 Slide the paper guides so that they c losely fit to the right and left edges of the paper . IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to set the paper guides to the paper width. Misf eeds or paper jams ma y occur if the paper guides are too loose or too tight. • Do not touch or remo ve the paper from the paper tr ay during printing.
29 Loading Postcards Official postcards can be loaded into the paper tra y . T o load postcards into the tray , f ollow the procedure described below . IMPOR T ANT • Data cannot be printed in a 5 mm wide border around the postcard. 1 Open the paper tray .
30 IMPOR T ANT • If the postcards are w arped, correct the warp so that it does not e xceed 2 mm in an upward direction bef ore loading them into the tra y . • If you are using postcards that ha ve been cut badly , they ma y ov erlap when deliv ered.
31 4 Slide the paper guides so that they c losely fit to the right and left edges of the paper . IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to set the paper guides to the postcard width. Misf eeds or paper jams ma y occur if the paper guides are too loose or too tight.
32 1 Open the paper tray . Grasp the pocket of the paper tray and pull it open, as shown in the illustration below . IMPOR T ANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the pr inter when you open the paper tra y . • Do not place an ything other than paper in the paper tr a y .
33 3 Flex the en velope stack to remo ve stiffness. Correct an y bent corners on the en velopes. 4 T ap the stack of en velopes on a flat surface to properly align the edges. 5 Insert the envelope stac k as far as it will go into the printer , with the side on which the address will be written facing do wn.
34 • Y ou cannot print on the back (adhesiv e surf ace) of the en v elope. • Load the Y ouk ei No .4 en velopes with the fl ap on the right. • Load the Kakuk ei No .2 en velopes with the fl ap open and end edge of the en velope f acing tow ard printer .
35 Clearing Paper Jams When a paper jam occurs during printing, a warning beep will sound. Then the error message <13 ヨウシガ ツマリマシタ > will appear in the upper par t of the .
36 IMPOR T ANT • Ne ver touch the undesignated parts of the ETB unit, such as the high-v oltage contact or gear . This ma y cause a printer malfunction.
37 1 Check all the messa ges appearing on the display . The error messages and paper jam locations ar e shown one by one on the display . Check all of them. The messages will disappear when you open the cover . It is recommended that you note down the messages.
38 3 If y ou are using the paper tray , remo ve the jammed paper from the paper tray area. IMPOR T ANT • If you cannot remo ve the jammed paper easily , do not use f orce to remov e it and proceed to the ne xt step .
39 5 Open the upper cover . Hold both sides of the upper cover and open it. IMPOR T ANT • The f ollowing procedure m ust be perf ormed with the upper co ver open. T ake care not to close the upper co v er accidentally . 6 Press down the right and left green pressure release le vers to release the pressure applied to the fixing unit.
40 7 Open the fixing unit cover b y raising the le ver with the green label. 8 Remove the jammed paper b y pulling it in the direction of the arro w in the illustrations below . NO TE • If there is an y unfix ed toner on the remo ved paper , there ma y be toner stains on the paper that is printed ne xt.
41 9 Open the lower co ver . Grasp the front of the lower cover as shown in the illustration below , and open it until it stops. IMPOR T ANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the lo wer cov er when y ou open it.
42 10 Remove the jammed paper b y pulling it in the direction of the arro w in the illustrations below . Remove the paper while pressing the lock r elease lever rightward when the paper is jammed in the lower part of ETB unit.
43 11 Grasp the right and left grips (green labels attached) of the ETB unit with both hands and lower the unit to ward y ou to open it. Lower the ETB unit gently , until it stops. IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to open the ETB unit b y holding the grips on the right and left with both hands.
44 12 Remove the jammed paper b y pulling it in the direction of the arro w in the illustrations below . Remove the jammed paper carefully , as any unfixed toner may adhere to the ETB unit.
45 ● If y ou cannot remove the paper easil y , remo ve the ETB unit before yo u tr y to remove the paper . ▼ Hold the ETB unit securely with both hands and remo ve it from the printer while pulling the blue release le v ers on the right and left sides of the ETB unit.
46 • Ne ver touch the undesignated parts of the ETB unit, such as the high-v oltage contact or gear . This may cause a printer malfunction. • Ne ver touch the connector inside the pr inter . This may cause a printer malfunction. • Place the ETB unit on a fl at and sturdy surf ace, with the tr ansf er belt f acing up .
47 ▼ Remov e the jammed paper . Remove the paper from the printer while pr essing the lock release lever rightward. ▼ Close the cov er after you ha v e remov ed the jammed paper .
48 ▼ Hold the ETB unit securely with both hands and install it to the printer while pressing the blue release le v ers on the right and left sides of the ETB unit. After the ETB unit has been pushed into the printer securely , release the blue lock release levers.
49 14 Return the pressure release lever s of the fixing unit to their original positions. 15 Close the lower co ver 1 1 1 1 , and then close the upper co ver 2 2 2 2 . Be sure to close the upper cover slowly , holding the right and left sides with both hands.
50 16 Remove the paper cassette fr om the printer . Grasp the pocket on the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it clicks. Then remove the paper cassette fr om the printer , suppor ting the sides of the cassette with both hands as illustrated below .
51 IMPOR T ANT • The paper cassette is hea vy , make sure that y ou hold it securely during remov al. • Place the remo ved paper cassette on a fl at and sturdy surf ace. 17 Pull the jammed paper towar d y ou as illustrated below and remove it fr om the printer .
52 18 Insert the paper cassette into the printer . Hold the paper cassette securely and push it into the printer until its fr ont side is flush with the front surface of the printer . CA UTION • T ake care not to trap your finger s when inser ting the paper cassette into the printer .
53 Replacing the T oner Cartridge To replace the toner car tridge, f ollow the procedure described below . When < < < < ト ト ト ト ナ ナ ナ ナ ー ー ー ー チ チ .
54 Replacing the Cartridge When the f ollowing messages appear on the displa y , replace the toner car tridge as indicated. • <1 G K トナー コウカン>・・・ Replace the b lack cartridge. • <1 G M トナー コウカン>・・・ Replace the magenta cartridge.
55 1 Open the upper cover . Hold both sides of the upper cover and open it. IMPOR T ANT • The f ollowing procedure m ust be perf ormed with the upper co ver open. T ake care not to close the upper co v er accidentally . 2 Open the lower co ver . Grasp the front of the lower cover as shown in the illustration below , and open it until it stops.
56 3 Grasp the right and left grips (green labels attached) of the ETB unit with both hands and lower the unit to ward y ou to open it. Lower the ETB unit gently , until it stops. IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to open the ETB unit b y holding the grips on the right and left with both hands.
57 • Do not place an y objects on the ETB unit or touch the tr ansf er belt of the ETB unit. Fur thermore, do not clean an y loose toner po wder from the transf er belt, as the ETB unit has self-cleaning function. If the ETB unit is damaged or the tr ansf er belt is scratched, this ma y cause misfeeds and a deterior ation in print quality .
58 5 Grasp the right and left handles of the car tridge for the color to be replaced, and pull it straight out. The toner cartridge weighs approximately 2.3 kg. Remove the cartridge by holding it securely with both hands. T ake car e not to touch the transfer belt of the ETB unit.
59 6 Remove the ne w toner cartridg e fr om the bo x. Then remo ve the toner cartridg e fr om its protective ba g. Open protective bag by cutting it with scissors, etc., so as not to damage the cartridge. IMPOR T ANT • Store the cartr idge in its pac kage until y ou are ready to install the cartridge in the printer .
60 7 Place the cartridg e on a flat surface and remo ve the packing materials (2 pieces). Put your fingers in the tabs and pull them straight out toward you. IMPOR T ANT • Do not touch the drum protectiv e shutter of the toner cartridge when you remo v e the pac king materials.
61 8 Remove the tapes and pr otective co ver . Remove the tapes in the order shown below 1 , 2 . Remove the protective cover with the tape 2 . IMPOR T ANT • Sav e the protectiv e co ver . Y ou ma y need it later when remo ving the toner car tridge f or maintenance of the printer .
62 10 Place the cartridg e on a stur dy surface, then gently pull the sealing tape (70 cm long) straight out of the cartridg e while holding the cartridg e. Put your finger in the tab of the sealing tape and pull it straight out. IMPOR T ANT • Do not pull the sealing tape diagonally upw ards or downwards as the tape ma y snap off .
63 11 Grasp the right and left handles of the cartridg e and insert it into the printer . Insert the toner car tridge into the slot with the same color labels attached 1 . Then push it into the printer securely 2 . 12 Remove the paper . IMPOR T ANT • When y ou remov e the paper , do not touch the transf er belt, as this ma y scratch it.
64 13 Close the ETB unit. Use both hands to close the ETB unit securely , until it clicks. IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to close the ETB unit b y using the right and left grips with green labels attached. • Do not lea ve the ETB unit open f or a long time after installing a toner cartridge.
65 Canceling Printing To cancel printing currently being processed, f ollow the procedure described below to perf or m job cancel. Job cancel lets you cancel a job while data is being receiv ed or processed. It does not affect the print data f or the ne xt job or any other interf ace jobs f or which data processing has not begun.
66 2 Press [ ジ ジ ジ ジ ョ ョ ョ ョ ブ ブ ブ ブ キ キ キ キ ャ ャ ャ ャ ン ン ン ン セ セ セ セ ル ル ル ル ]. The message <03 ジョブ キャンセル > appears on the display and the print data being processed is canceled.
67 Checking Operations This printer is equipped with a status pr int function that allows y ou to chec k the menu settings and a f ont list function (LBP-2810 only) that allows y ou to print a list of the f onts installed in the printer as well as a sample list.
68 The message <01 ステータス プリント > appears on the display and the status print begins. 4 Check the contents of the status print.
69 When a Message Is Displayed When <nn-nn サ サ サ サ ー ー ー ー ビ ビ ビ ビ ス ス ス ス コ コ コ コ ー ー ー ー ル ル ル ル > or <F9-nn チ チ チ チ ェ ェ .
70 2 If the message is display ed again, turn the printer’ s po wer to off. Disconnect the power plug and remove the earth cable from the earth terminal. Then contact the place where y ou purc hased the printer . When you contact the place of purchase, describe the pr oblem and quote the four -digit number .
71 Error Messages If the printer is unable to print for some reason, an alarm sounds, the error indicator lights up and an error message appears on the displa y . Fur ther more, a warning message appears on the bottom of the displa y when you are required to tak e some sor t of action, e ven though there is no prob lem with the print job .
72 14 X カートリッジ ナシ (X is Y , M, C, or K.) Cause: The toner car tridge for the color indicated on the displa y has not been installed or it has not been installed correctly . Remedy: Install the toner car tridge or re-install the toner car tridge correctly .
73 1G X トナー コウカン (X is Y , M, C, or K.) Cause: The car tridge for the color indicated on the displa y is out of toner . Remedy: Replace the toner car tridge with a new one . 1H X カートリッジ コショウ (X is Y , M, C, or K.
74 9A カセット n ガ イドフセイ (n is the cassette number.) Cause: The paper guides of the cassette indicated on the displa y is out of position.
75 PC XXX ヨウシ ニ コウカン (where XXX is the paper size abbreviation) <Error skip> Cause: Either the size of the paper loaded in the paper source is diff erent to the paper size setting in the application software , or the paper source in which a diff erent size of paper is loaded has been selected.
