xiv • Never bloc k the ventilation slots and louvers on the printer . These openings are pro vided for pr oper ventilation of working parts inside the printer . Blocking these openings can cause the printer to overheat. Never place the printer on a soft surface, such as a sofa or rug.

Printable Paper Y ou can use the follo wing types of paper with this printer . T o ensure optimum perf or mance, only use paper that f alls within the specifications listed below .

Paper Requirements 2-4 P aper Input and Output 2 Plain Paper F ollow these guidelines when selecting paper: IMPOR T ANT • P aper that is too thic k or too thin, or that has irregular shapes , cutouts, or perf orations should not be used. • Ne ver use paper that is w et, highly textured, rough, torn, wrinkled, or damaged.
Paper Requirements 2-5 P aper Input and Output 2 Label Sheets Label sheets are paper with pressure-sensitiv e adhesive . Acceptable siz es are Letter and A4. F ollow these guidelines when choosing a label sheet: IMPOR T ANT • The label print face (top , or f ace sheet) must be made of ordinary , matte-finish paper similar to cop y paper .
Paper Requirements 2-6 P aper Input and Output 2 Paper Y ou Cannot Use To av oid prob lems such as paper jams and printer malfunctions, the follo wing types of paper should ne ver be used. IMPOR T ANT • The f ollowing paper tends to cause paper jams .
Paper Requirements 2-7 P aper Input and Output 2 Storing Paper Handling and storing paper proper ly ensures high print quality , and prev ents potential paper jams. Using paper that is cr umpled or e xposed to moisture or direct sunlight during improper storage or handling can contribute to poor print quality and paper jams.
Paper Delivery 2-8 P aper Input and Output 2 Paper Deliver y This printer delivers the printed pages in two deliv er y methods, f ace-up deliv er y and f ace-down deliv er y .
Paper Delivery 2-9 P aper Input and Output 2 Face-Down Deliver y Use f ace-down deliv er y for plain paper only . Pr intouts are stack ed in order in the f ace-down deliv er y slot (which can hold up to 50 sheets of plain paper 64 g/m 2 ). 1 Move the paper delivery selector up to the face-do wn mark.
Paper Delivery 2-10 P aper Input and Output 2 1 Push the paper delivery selector down to the face-up mark. Remove each sheet manually from the face-up delivery slot after it has been printed. IMPOR T ANT • Do not pull out the printout while it is still emerging from the f ace-up delivery slot.
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-11 P aper Input and Output 2 Printing from the Multi-Purpose T ray The multi-purpose tray can hold up to appro ximately 125 sheets of 64 g/m 2 paper f or high volume printing. Acceptable paper siz es are Letter , Legal, A4, Executiv e, and B5.
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-12 P aper Input and Output 2 1 Fan a stac k of paper , then tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to properl y align the edg es. IMPOR T ANT • When f anning or aligning transparencies , always hold the edges , to av oid touching the print side.
Printing from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-13 P aper Input and Output 2 3 Adjust the paper guides to the width of the paper stack. For A4-size or Letter/Legal-size paper , align the paper guides with the icons inside the multi-purpose tray . IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to match the paper guides to the paper width.
Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-14 P aper Input and Output 2 Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose T ray Preparing Envelopes Bef ore you load en velopes in the m ulti-pur pose tra y , the follo wing precautions should be obser ved.
Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-15 P aper Input and Output 2 3 Flex the stac k on all four sides to remove an y stiffness. Chec k all corners. If the corners are curled, straighten them. IMPOR T ANT Be sure to flatten out the leading edges of the en velopes if the y are curled down.
Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-16 P aper Input and Output 2 Loading Envelopes The multi-purpose tray can hold Monarch, COM 10, C5, and DL en velopes. T o load env elopes into the multi-pur pose tra y , follow the procedure belo w . 1 Align the stack of en velopes so that the side to be printed on faces the front of the printer .
Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-17 P aper Input and Output 2 When using C5-size envelopes, remove any stif fness by lightly flexing both edges of the envelope. Insert the envelopes one at a time into the multi-purpose tray , in the direction shown in the illustration.
Printing Envelopes from the Multi-Purpose Tray 2-18 P aper Input and Output 2 NO TE After you ha ve loaded the en velopes into the m ulti-pur pose tray , please check the f ollowing items to a void paper jams or misf eeds bef ore printing. - Is the stack of en velopes bending? The stack ma y bend if the paper guides are too tight.
Printing from the Manual Feed Slot 2-19 P aper Input and Output 2 Printing from the Manual Feed Slot The manual f eed slot allows you to load paper manually , one sheet at a time. Y ou can load transparencies , labels, env elopes, postcards, or other special paper .

Click [Y es] to install the CAPT in the language display ed. The setup f or the installation completes, and then installation of the CAPT (Canon Advanced Printing T echnology) star ts.

The [Software License Agreement] screen appears . 7 Check the contents of [Software License Agreement], and then clic k [Y es]. The [Select printer connection por t] dialog box appears.

For Windows Me, select [Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)] and click [Next] in the [Add New Hardwar e Wizard] dialog box.

Uninstalling the CAPT 3-45 Using the Canon Adv anced Printing T echnology 3 Uninstalling the CAPT If the CAPT is not working properly , it might help to remov e it and install it again. Bef ore you begin, be sure y ou hav e the installation software av ailable f or installation.
