Chapter 2 S etup 2-11 2-4 Conn ecting the Scanner to the Comput er There ar e two methods f or connectin g the DR-60 10C scanner to a computer : USB con nection, which m akes use of a standar d USB por t on th e computer, and SCSI connect ion, which makes use of a SCSI card ins talled in an e xpansion slot of th e compute r .

If the power switch is in the O N position, push the switch to s et it to OFF . 3 Plug the s upplied pow er co rd into th e power connector on the rear of t he unit .

3-1 Chapter 3 Basic Ope ration 3-1 Doc uments The s canner can scan docum ents ranging i n size from business cards an d checks to A4 si ze docu ments. It can als o scan lon g documen ts up t o 39.2” (100 0 mm). The doc ument si zes that this scanne r can sca n are sh own below .
Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-2 IMPOR T ANT A docume nt must meet t he follo wing cr iter ia to be scannable: • When scanning a multiple p age docum ent, pages of the sam e size, thickness, and weight must be groupe d together . Scannin g different sizes and t ypes of p aper toge ther can ca use the scann er to jam.

Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-5 3-3 Pla cing Docume nts There ar e two methods f or f eeding doc uments, the Page Separation mode and B ypass mode. Feeding pages continuousl y from a sta ck of documen ts pla ced in th e f eed tra y is call ed the Page Separation mode.
Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-6 CA UTION ■ Do not place the documents on top of the scanner to align them. Doing so ma y cause a malfunction. ■ When placing documents into the f eed tray , take care not to cut your hands on the edges of the paper . 3 Adjust th e documen t guid es so tha t they are wider t han the doc ument to be scanned .

Note Before scanning, make sure tha t the document is not curl ed or creas ed, and that it is placed in the feed tra y c orrectly . Scann ing an improper ly plac ed, cur led, or c reased doc ument may damage the document or caus e a paper ja m.

Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-17 Scan Job The s canning con ditions and scan mod e (Scan Batch to File, Scan Batc h to Pr int, or Sc an Batch to Ma il) are regi stered in a dvance as a jo b . The scan jo b can then be perfor med by selectin g the register ed job from the drop- down list ( a ) or by pre ssing (S can Job) o n the to olbar ( b ).

CA UTION When removing jamme d paper , take care not t o cut your hands on the edges of the paper . 1 Remov e any documents that have been left in the eject tray , and close the ej ect tra y guide.

Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-28 • If a paper jam occurs w hen “Rapid r ecov e r system” is enabled in th e ISIS/TW A IN driver settin gs, the image data of the d ocument is n ot sav e d and scanni ng stops. This allows you to continue s canning from the doc ument that c aused the pa per jam after the pape r jam is fix ed.

Chapter 4 Ma intenance 4-4 6 Wipe the r emoved rollers with a c loth that ha s been mo istened with wa ter and thor oughly wrung out. 7 Attach the rollers that were removed. ( See “ Att achi ng t he Ro ller Uni t, ” on p . 4-10 , and “At tac h in g the Ret ard Roll er , ” on p .

Att achi ng the R olle r Unit 1 Align the cutout on the roller unit with the s haft pin o n the main unit. Note If the cutou t and pin d o not fit, rota te the rolle r until the p ar ts are proper ly matched.

V er ify that th e upper u nit is prop erly c losed. CA UTION When cl osing the upper unit, be careful not to get your fingers caught, as this may result in personal injury .

Chapter 4 Ma intenance 4-13 2 Slide the roller l ock le ver to t he left, and inser t it into th e retard r oller slo t. 3 Push the roller lo ck le ver towards the back of the scanner to lock the reta rd roller into place. 4 Replace th e roller cover .
Chapter 4 Ma intenance 4-14 6 Close the u pper unit slowly . Make sure tha t the uppe r unit is complete ly closed by pus hing on both edges with both h ands unti l you hear a cl ic k. CA UTION When cl osing the upper unit, be careful not to get your fingers caught, as this may result in personal injury .

Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-2 Prob lem The USB hub is not compatible with th e scanner . Solution Remov e the USB hub . ✘ The PC Does Not Recognize the Scanner (Connecting via SCSI) The following are poss ible causes of the PC failing to r ecognize t he scanner .
Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-3 IMPOR T ANT • If documen ts are not scanned nor mally e ven if the scanner setup is OK, a p robable cause is that the sc anner dr iver or appli cation s oftware is not r unnin g correct ly . Re- install the scanner driver or app licatio n software.
Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-4 Pr oblem Attempting to scan a document of a size, thic kne ss, or weight t ha t the scanner cannot scan. Solution Check the size, thickness, and weight of the d ocument. For precau tions co ncer ning documents, s ee “3-1 Documents, ” on p .
Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-5 Symptoms T ext or images on the r ear side of y our document appear in the scanned image . Problem The [B rightne ss] setting is too low , or th e paper i s too thin . Solution Set a hi gher [Br ightnes s] settin g. If the pap er is too th in, make a copy of the docume nts and the n scan the c op y .
Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-6 5-2 Uninstallin g Software If the IS IS/TW AIN driver , and “C aptureP er f ect 3.0” are no t operating nor ma lly , follow the procedure below to uni nstall them. Then, re-install the s oftware from the DR-6010C setu p disc.
Chapter 5 T roubleshoot ing 5-7 The [Unin stall or c hange a pr ogram] dialog box appea rs. Note F or Windows XP , the [Add or Remov e Programs] dia log box appears. 3 F rom t he list in th e dialog bo x, select th e applic ation you want to delete Æ click [Uninstal l].
