7 Using the Scanner Scanner Driver Basics T o use the scanner car tridge, you m ust install the IS Scan software , which includes the IS Scan scanner driver and the IS Scan Plus utility progr am.
8 Using the Scanner Unpac king the Scanner Car tridg e Make sure y ou hav e the f ollowing items . ■ IS-12 Color Image Scanner Car tr idge The scanner car tr idge is composed of precision components. T o av oid poor scanning results, do not touch the optical components or electrical contacts.
9 Using the Scanner Unpacking the Scanner Cartr idge ■ White Calibration Sheet Y ou use this sheet to maintain the correct color balance of scanned images. The fi rst time you install the scanner cartr idge, y ou need to r un the white le vel calibration.
10 Using the Scanner Installing the IS Scan Software Make sure the BJC-85 printer driver is installed bef ore you proceed with the f ollowing instructions. 1 Inser t the pr inter driver CD-R OM into your CD-R OM dr ive . 2 Click Start and then click Run.

12 Using the Scanner Installing the Scanner Car tridge ■ Replacing a BJ Car tr idge With the Scanner Car tridge 1 Make sure that the printer is plugged in and turned on. Open the car tr idge cov er and press the CAR TRIDGE button; the car tr idge holder mov es to the center of the printer .

With the label on the scanner car tr idge up , set the scanner car tr idge in the car tr idge holder at a slight angle. Align the marks ( ) on the scanner car tr idge with the marks on the holder .
14 Using the Scanner Installing the Scanner Car tridge 6 Close the car tr idge cov er . 7 Press the CAR TRIDGE button. The scanner car tr idge mov es to the home position. Removing the Scanner Cartridge F ollow this procedure to remov e the scanner car tr idge and install the BJ car tr idge when you are fi nished scanning.
15 Using the Scanner Installing the Scanner Car tridge 3 Lift up the tab on the scanner car tr idge to remov e it from the car tr idge holder . 4 Place the scanner car tr idge in its protectiv e case. Alwa ys remov e the scanner car tr idge from the printer and store it in its protectiv e case when it is not being used.
16 Using the Scanner Basic Scanning Pr ocedure After installing the IS Scan scanner driver , you can use the BJC-85 printer as a scanner . 1 Remov e the BJ car tr idge installed in the car tr idge holder and then install the IS-12 Color Image Scanner Car tr idge.
17 Using the Scanner Basic Scanning Procedure 3 The fi rst time you use the scanner , you need to perf or m the White Le v el Calibration. Using the White Calibration Sheet 4 Inser t the image you wish to scan into the scanning holder , then load the scanning holder into the auto sheet f eeder .
18 Using the Scanner Using the White Calibration Sheet The white calibration sheet pro vided with the scanner car tr idge is used f or maintaining the correct color balance of scanned images.
19 Using the Scanner Using the White Calibration Sheet 1 Load the white calibration sheet with the cropped corner at upper left. Align the sheet with the right side of the sheet feeder . Adjust the paper guide to the left side of the sheet. 2 F ollow any instructions on your screen.
20 Using the Scanner Using the White Calibration Sheet • Do not leav e the white calibration sheet in locations that are e xposed to direct sunlight or that are subject to high temperatures or humidity . • Do not bend or wrinkle the white calibration sheet.

25 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan This section describes how to scan an image when you launch IS Scan from within a TW AIN-compatib le application program. ■ Scanning an Image These basic procedures ma y var y according to the application progr am you are using.
26 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan 3 Specify the basic settings. • Click the do wn-arrow on the right of the P aper Size bo x and select the most appropriate paper size f or the image you wish to scan. • Select the most appropriate scanning mode for the image y ou wish to scan in the Scanning Mode bo x.
27 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan • Release the mouse button. The Selection Box appears on the image . • T o move the Selection Bo x, place the mouse pointer within the Selection Bo x and drag the mouse to the desired position. • T o resize the Selection Bo x, point to a cor ner of the Selection Bo x and then drag the mouse .
28 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan 6 Load the image you wish to scan in the auto sheet f eeder again. 7 Click the Scan b utton. Remember , if you speci fi ed a Selection Bo x in step 5, only that por tion of the image is scanned.
29 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan • Some TW AIN-compliant gr aphics application programs do not displa y the main IS Scan dialog bo x but instead displa y a different screen characteristic of the application program.
30 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Changing the Scanning Mode Y ou can select a scanning mode according to your scanning purpose. Optimum settings, such as image type and resolution, are pre-assigned based on the contents of a scanning job . When you wish to customiz e the settings for special scanning jobs , click the Custom button.
31 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Changing the Scanning Mode When you select F AX or OCR, the document is scanned and processed as a gra yscale image and con v er ted to monochrome binar y image data. This process eliminates unnecessar y image backg round and increases the quality of the scanned te xt and line ar t.
32 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using the Customized Scanning Mode When you select Custom in the Scanning Mode bo x of the main dialog bo x, the Custom dialog bo x opens and allows you to adjust the scanning settings f or special scanning jobs. 1 Open the main IS Scan dialog bo x.
33 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using the Customized Scanning Mode 3 Specify these settings in the Custom dialog bo x: Standard V alue Y ou change the standard v alues f or the default settings here . Image T ype Select a type of image: Color (the def ault), Gra yscale, or Monochrome.
34 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using the Customized Scanning Mode Character Emphasis Deter mines whether or not Image T r ust processing is used f or scanning gra yscale images. Image T r ust processing shar pens the appearance of characters in monochrome documents .

36 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Sa ving the Settings Y ou can sav e the settings in the main IS Scan dialog bo x to a fi le. The next time y ou scan, you only need to open the fi le in which the desired settings are stored and start scanning.
37 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using the Sa ved Settings Open the fi le in which the desired settings were sa ved and use those settings f or scanning. 1 Select Open Settings File from the Settings menu. 2 Select the fi le you wish to use , then click the Open b utton.

41 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan Plus 3 Select an option: Copy Scan and immediately print an image without editing. Using Copy Capture Image Scan and edit an image other than a photographic print. Using Capture Image Capture Photo Scan and edit a photographic print such as a snapshot.
42 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using IS Scan Plus ■ Using Online Help When you need detailed instructions, clic k the Help button in the upper right of the main screen. Y ou can access the online Help from all the screens that IS Scan Plus displa ys.

44 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using Cop y Use the Cop y feature when y ou wish to pr int an image immediately after scanning. Y ou cannot edit or enhance the scanned image bef ore pr inting. 1 Click the Cop y b utton in the main IS Scan Plus screen.
45 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using Cop y 2 Specify any required settings: • Select Color or Monochrome in the Document T ype box. • Select Fine or F ast in the Cop y Mode box. • Select the paper size in the P aper Size bo x. • The Copies bo x is disabled.
46 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using Cop y 4 When you clic k the Cop y button, a message bo x appears. Clic k OK in the message bo x to con fi r m that the scanner car tridge is installed. Cop ying begins. 5 Another dialog bo x appears to remind you to remov e the scanner car tr idge, and install the BJ car tridge according to your print job .
47 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Using Capture Image Use the Capture Image f eature to scan an image other than a photographic print. Y ou can also edit, enhance, sa ve , and pr int the scanned image. 1 Click the Capture Image b utton in the main IS Scan Plus screen.

51 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Editing a Scanned Image Y ou can edit or enhance a scanned image acquired using the Capture Photo or Capture Image f eature. The editing features y ou can use vary according to the settings you used f or scanning and whether you used the Capture Photo or Capture Image f eature f or scanning.

Frame Allows y ou to add a frame border around the image. • Depending on the settings you use f or scanning, some editing f eatures are not av ailable .
54 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Printing a Scanned Image Y ou can print a scanned image acquired using the Capture Image or Capture Photo feature . Remov e the scanner car tr idge, and install the BJ car tridge according to your print job . Click the Print b utton on the IS Scan Plus screen.
55 Using the Scanner With Windo ws Printing a Scanned Image If you are using Capture Photo , the Photo Pr int Options dialog bo x appears. Click Print Setting to change the printer settings or click Print to print the image. See your online BJC-85 User’ s Manual f or details on the printer Proper ties you can select.

This is par ticular ly useful when y ou want to paste an image into documents created with application software that is not TW AIN-compatible .
