4 Indicators The camera indicators will light or blink under the following conditions. z Upper In dicator z Lower I ndicato r Never do the following while the gree n indicator blinks.
5 Preparat ions 1. Installing the batteries. 1. Slide the memory card slot/battery cover lock i n the directi on of the arrow ( a ) and o pen the cover ( b ). 2. Insert the 4 supplied AA-siz e alk aline b atteri es, or separately sold AA-size NiMH batteries.
6 To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger until the memory card clicks and then release it. Ensure that the memory card is correc tly oriented before inserting it in the camera. It may damage the camera, or the camera may not recognize the card, if it is i nserted incorrectly .
7 Preparat ions First Time Settings Opening the LCD Monitor The LCD monitor can be use d to ch eck an image dur ing shooting, to play back recorded images o r to adjust menu settings. It can be opened to the following range of positions. 1. Opened right to l e ft 180 degr ee s.
8 Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the pow er button ( a ). 2. Use the or button to select an i tem and the or button to ch ange its value ( b ). 3. Confirm that the correct time is displayed and press the FU NC./SET button ( c ). The date and time can also be set in the Set up menu (p.
9 Shooti ng 1. Press the pow er button. The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display on the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power button again turns the power off. • Pressing the pow er button while pressing and holding the DISP. button will turn on the mute s etting which will mute all s ounds except for warning sounds.
10 5. Focus an d shoot. 1. Press the shutter b utton h alfway to focus. When the camera focuses, the camera beeps twice and the indicator light s green (orange when using the flash). Al so, the AF fr ame appears in green on the LCD monitor at the point where the camera is focused.
11 Shooti ng Selecting a Shooting Mode 1. Set the shooti ng mode dial to th e desired mod e ( a ). In the and modes, use the or button ( b ) to select a shooting mode.

14 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever towar d or . The zoom can be adjust ed from 35 mm – 140 mm (foc al length) in 35mm film equivalent term s. • The shutter speed is slow in or mode.
15 Shooti ng Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cy cle through flash settin gs. Red-eye reduction: T his feature reduces the effect of light reflecting back from the eyes and making them appear red (p. 16). 16 Setting the Red-Eye Reduction Function You can set whether the camera autom atically performs r ed-eye reduction when the flash fires. 1. (Rec.) Menu [Red-Eye] [On]*/[Off]. See Menus and Setti ngs (p. 22) . * Default s etting. Setting the Slow Synchro Function The flash timing is adjusted to slow shutter speeds.
17 Shooti ng Shooting Close-ups (Macro) 1. Press the button. To cancel the macro mode, press the button to turn off the or display. 18 Using the Self-Timer 1. FUNC. Menu * (Drive Mode) / / . See Menus and Setti ngs (p. 21) . * Default s etting. • When the shutter button is pressed fully, the self-timer lamp will blink. When using red- eye reduction, the self-timer lamp will blink and then stay lit fo r the last 2 se conds.
19 Shooti ng Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots () 1. FUNC. Menu (Drive Mode) (Custo m Timer). See Menus and Setti ngs (p. 21). 2. Press the MENU button . 3. Select [Delay ]/[Shots] using th e or button and change the settings using the or button.

21 Menus and Setti ngs Settings for the shooting, playback or print modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using the F UNC., Rec., Play, Print, Set up or My Camera menu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets m any of the common shoot ing functions.

23 Print ing Connect the camer a to a direct print compatible printer* 1 with a cable and simply press the button on t he camera. 1. Connect the ca mera to a direct prin t compatible printer and turn on the printer’s power.
24 2. Turn on the pow er in playba ck mode and confirm that , or is displayed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( a ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon wil l vary according to the printer model. • The icon will display for movies.
25 Downloading Images t o a Comput er The following methods can be used t o download ima ges recorded by the camera to a computer. Some methods, depending on the OS used, may not be available.

27 Downloading Images to a Computer Preparing to Download I mages Items to Prepare • Camera and com puter • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk supplied with the camera • Interface cable supplied wit h the camera 1. Install t he software. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer ’s CD-ROM drive.
28 2. Connecting the camer a to a comp uter. 1. Use the supplied interface cable to connect the computer ’s USB port to the cam era’s DIGIT AL terminal. Slip your fingernail under t he left end of the came ra’s terminal cover , lift it open and plug the interface cable in all the way .
29 Downloading Images to a Computer Downloading Images to a C omputer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and compu ter. 1. Select [Canon C ameraWin dow] and click [OK] (fi r st time o nly).
30 Down loadi ng Images to a Comp uter The following window will appear when you es tablish a connection between the camer a and com puter. If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the ba r which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
31 Downloading Images to a Computer Downloading Images Using the Cam era (Direct Transfer) Use this method to download images using camera operations. Install the supplied software an d adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p.
