The following guides are availabl e. Refer to them as necessary according to the flowchart below. In this guide, the Basic Camera User Guide is called the Basic Guide , and the Advanced Camera User Guide is called the Advanced Guide .
1 Preparations 1. Installing th e batteries. 1. Slide the battery cover lock in the direction of the arrow and open the cover. 2. Insert the supplied 4 AA-size alka line batteries, or separately sold AA-size NiMH ba tteries. 3. Close the battery cover.
2 To Remove the Memory Card Use a finger to push the memory card in until you hear a click, then release it. You can use SD* memory car ds and Multi MediaCards wi th thi s camera. These cards are collectively ca lled memory cards in this guide. * SD stands for Secure Digital, a copyright protection system.
3 Preparations First Time Settings Opening the LCD Monitor The LCD monitor can be used to check an image during shooting, to play back recorded images or to adjust menu settings. It can be opened to the following range of positions. 1. Opened right to left 180 deg rees.
4 Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( a ). 2. Use the or button to select an item and the or button to change its v alue ( b ). 3. Confirm that the correct tim e is displayed and press the FUNC./SET button ( c ). The date and time can also be set in the Set up menu (p.
5 Shooting 1. Press the power button. The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power button ag ain turns the power off. • To switch to the setting that mutes a ll sounds (except for the warning sound), press and hold the MENU button while pressing the power button.
6 Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD mo nitor for approximately 2 seconds. You can continue to display images regardless of the review duration setting with the following procedures. • Keeping the shutter button pressed after a shot.
7 Shooting Image zone (Special Sc ene) By simply sel ecting one of th e following sho oting modes, you can sh oot with the most appropri ate settings for the scene.
8 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 35 mm – 140 mm (focal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. Image zone Shoots a movie when you pre ss the shutter butto n.
9 Shooting Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cycle throug h flash settings. * Red-eye reduction: This feature reduces the ef fect of light reflect ing back from the eyes and making th em appear red. You can se t this feature on and off in the Rec.

11 Playback/Erasing 1. Set the mode switch to (playback). The last recorded image will appear in the LCD monitor. 2. Use the or butto n to display the image you wi sh to view. Use the button to move to the previous image and the button to move the next image.
12 Settings for the shooting or playback modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using the FUNC., Rec., Play, Set up or My Camera menu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets many of t he common shooting functions. a Set the mode switch to (shooting) .

14 Connect the camera to a dir ect print compatible pr inter* 1 with a cable and simply press the button on the came ra. 1. Connect the camera to a Direct Print compa tible pr inter and turn on the printer’s power.
15 Printing 2. Turn on the power in play back mode and confi rm that , or is displayed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( a ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary ac cording to the pr inter model. 3. Select an image to print using the or button ( b ) and press the button ( c ).

18 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera and computer • Canon Digital Camera Solutio n Disk supplied with the camera • Interface cable supplied with the camera 1. Install the software. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solutio n Disk in the computer’s CD-ROM drive.
19 Downloading Images to a Compute r 5. Remove the Canon D igital Camera Solution Disk fro m the CD-ROM drive after restarting. 2. Connecting the camera to a comput er. 1. Use the supplied interface ca ble to connect the com puter’s USB port to the camera’s DIGITAL terminal.
20 Downloading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set t he preferences will appear when a connection is established betw een the camera and computer. 1. Select [Canon Ca meraWindow] and click [OK] (fi rst time only). 2. Download the images.
21 Downloading Images to a Compute r Downloading Im ages to a Computer The following window will appear when you establish a connection between the camera and computer. If it fails to appear, click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
22 Downloading Images Using the Camera (Direct Transfer) Use this meth od to download im ages using came ra operatio ns. Install the supplied software and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p. 18). 1. Confirm that the Direct Trans fer menu is displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor.
23 Downloading Images to a Compute r Select & Transfer/Wallpaper 2. Select or , and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button) . 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will d ownload. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
24 Safety Precautions Be sure to read, under stand and follow the safety precautions below when using the camera, in orde r to pr event injury, burns or electrical shock to yourself and others. Be sure to also read the safety precau tions listed in the Advanced Camera User Guide .
