ADAM-4561 User Manual 2 Chapter 1 Overview 1.1 Introduction Advantech’ s ADAM-4561 allows PC users to connect their serial devices to systems that use USB inte rface . By attaching the ADAM- 4561 to a PC, it will no longer be n ecessary to open the chassis or turn of f the PC to install the hub .

ADAM-4561 User Manual 6 Chapter 2 Inst allation & Setup 2.1 Hardware Inst allation 2.1.1 Network Architecture T r aditional serial port commu nication uses a COM port board that slides into one of the slots at the back of your PC. W ith the AD AM- 4561, you can access the COM port from USB po rts.
7 Chapter 2 2.1 .2 Network Connec tion When using the ADAM-4561, you will sim ply plug one end of USB cable (included in package) into ADAM-4561, and the other end into the USB hub or your host PC. 2.1 .3 Serial Connection The model of the AD AM-4561 that you purchased has 10 pin connec- t or for connecting serial ports on the bot tom of module.

9 Chapter 2 2.1.4 Jumper Settings Y ou can use JP1 on ADAM -4561 to confi gure serial mode. Please refer to the picture below for Jump er JP1 location. Y ou can choose “On (RS-422 Master )” or “Auto (RS-422 Slave/RS-485 Automatic Direction Con trol)” for seri al mode.
ADAM-4561 User Manual 10 2.2 Sof tware Installation 2.2.1 Driver and Utility Inst allation In order to use a PC to control se rial devices connected to the ADAM- 4561, you must first have a host running Windows 98/ME/2000. Follow- ing are the inst allation instructions to set up t he ADAM-4561.
11 Chapter 2 Choose “ Search for the best driver in these locations ” and click the item “ Sear ch removable media (floppy , CD-ROM…) ”. Click the “Next button” to start the installati on.
ADAM-4561 User Manual 12 After the installation is comp lete, you will see the dialog wi ndow (shown by figure below) appearing. Click the “ Finish ” button to complet e the installation. Y our PC will ask you to reboot your computer . After reboot, yo u can go to device manager .
