This unit is part of our new '8' Series taking Cambridge Audio to new levels of audio excellence as part of our commitment to the on -g g oing development of the Azur range.
4 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier Che cki ng the Power Sup ply Rat ing For your o wn safety please read the f ollowing instructions carefully before att empting to connect this unit to the mains. Check that the rear of your unit indicates the correct supply v oltage.

6 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier Power On/Off Switches the unit on and off. A C power socket Once you ha ve completed all connections t o the amplifier , plug the A C power cable int o an appropriate mains sock et then switch on. Y our amplifier is now ready f or use.
840A Class XD int egrated am plifier Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier 7 RS232 C The RS232C por t allows e xternal serial control of the 840A f or custom install use. A full command set is av ailable on the Cambridge Audio website at www.cambrid ge -a a udio .
8 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier Standby/ On Switches the unit between Standby mode (indicat ed by dim pow er LED) and On (indicated b y bright power LED). Standby is a lo w power mode where the power consum ption is less than 10 W atts. The unit should be left in Standby mode when not in use.

10 Azur Class XD integrated am plifier The 840A is supplied with an Azur Navigator remo te control that operates both this am plifier and Cambridge Audio Azur CD play ers.

The inclusion of features such as Pre-Out and Speak er B connections mean that you can flexibly configure your syst em depending on your requirements.
12 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier CONNECTIONS (CONTINUED) Speaker B connecti ons The Speaker B connections on the back of the amplifier allo w for a second set of speakers to be used (i.e. speak ers located in another room). The Speak er A/B button on the front panel allo ws this second set of speakers to be switched on and off.
840A Class XD int egrated am plifier Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier 13 Balanced audio connections The diagram below shows ho w to connect the 840A to the Azur 840C Upsampling CD play er using the Balanced Audio inputs via three-pin XLR connectors (Not e: the 840A can also be connected to non-Cambridge Audio sources with balanced outputs).
Balanc e Press the Mode button t o enter Balance mode. BALANCE will appear on the display and can be adjust ed using the volume control. Press the Mode button again to return t o V olume mode or wait 5 seconds for the 840A to automatically e xit Balance mode.
The 840A features man y advanced settings that allow its use to be be customised to user pref erence. The inputs can be named t o reflect the actual source units you ha ve, each input can be trimmed so that each sounds the same in terms of loudness when you switch betw een them and other options.
16 Azur Class XD integrated am plifier Volume display T o change the volume display from decibels (-84 t o 0dB) to arbitrary volume units (0 to 72 units) select V OL DB in the System Configure menu. Press the input select button t o turn of f the volume in decibels.
Select the connected Azur models b y pressing the appropriate input select button. F or example, CA XXX C for an Azur CD pla yer (540C V2, 640C V2), CA XXXD for an Azur D VD player , CA DAB T f or an Azur DAB tuner etc.
The 840A features Incognit o Ready TM / A-BUS TM Ready outputs, allowing multi-room capability . One or two am plified keypads can be plugged int o the amplifier (using Cat5/5e cable and RJ45 plugs) to pr ovide multi- room audio in one or two secondary rooms or zones.
It is then possible to contr ol the source equipment from the remo te rooms b y using the source equipment's own remo te controls or thr ough a learning remote.
20 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier If the unit has not fully cooled down then the t emperature may reach the limit soon after the amplifier is powered up. If the loudspeak er impedance is low the t emperature of the amplifier may rise f aster as the amplifier is working harder .
840A Class XD int egrated am plifier Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier 21 It is possible to disable the short circuit detection f eature by pressing the SHORT D T button to off when in the 840A System Configure menu. This would only be required if the loudspeak ers have v er y low DC resistance.
22 Azur Class XD integrat ed amplifier There is no power Ensure the AC po wer cord is connect ed securely . Ensure the plug is fully inser ted int o the wall socket and is switched on. Check fuse in the mains plug or adaptor . There is no sound Make sure the unit is not in Standb y mode.
